Headers

I've been relying on headers a lot in 2009-11, and it seems like they're far less effective this year.

Notably, whenever I try to score from crosses, they will always head the ball very high... and very softly, too. Is it the change in headers or in the crosses? Or do you need to press something else for a powerful header?

The worst thing is, this makes corner kicks pretty much useless.

I think it's to do with the attacker's starting position when crossing.
Try crossing the ball earlier (when attacker is still outside of the penalty area), the attacker will get himself into position and will produce a more effective header.
Also, try pushing down or up on the controller as you're about to cross the ball, you'll see that the player will cross to the near or far post.

However, this still doesn't take away that crossing is seriously flawed... When I have two attackers in the box and my winger gets to the byline, the cross for some reason goes behind them?? What's that all about?

It's actually press the cross button 2 times to cross to the near post and once to cross to the far post. The method you said was only implemented in dead ball situations

I've not tried the press 2x thing, but early crosses do help quite a lot. With players racing towards the goal while doing it, it adds the much-needed power to actually squeeze it in.

Finished one ML season just a few days ago, and I can honestly say that I've scored less than five headers... Which is severely disheartening because along with "short passes + quick turns + shoot" that's my main method of scoring. With the defending being very frustrating this year I thought I'll just score more when the inevitable comes, but I've been robbed in that department as well. :( Last year maybe more than half of my goals were from my players' heads.

I'll try to work with the tricks you've been suggesting, but really, it's not supposed to be like this, is it? It's like bad takeaway food, where you go "Just drown them in chili sauce, it's not that bad that way." We keep looking for desperate solutions and workarounds. This sort of things should be to master the game, not just to stay afloat.

Thing is, unlike bad controls and difficult defending, header problems cannot be nullified by playing against users. When playing against friends it all evens out, but you'll still struggle to head those crosses in...

Hey Abu... Sorry, but I think you're wrong.
Pressing the crossing button 2x only lowers the cross, it doesn't dertimine near or far post.
Pushing the button 3x times drills the cross along the floor.

For whatever reason PES this year have decided that we have a choice of 18 options for crossing the ball...
(centre of area) 1,2 or 3x taps
(far post) Pushing up 1,2 or 3 taps
(near post) Pushing down 1,2 or 3 taps

And repeated using the "float" button (RT)

So yeah, plenty of options but in my opinion... Too bloody many!

I saw it on the manual.

Never mind though but you forgot to mention L2 crosses which are manual (LT I think on FIFA)

Really, I did not know down arrow or up arrow influenced the crosses. Where did you get this info from?

Players always seem to run ahead of the ball when the cross comes in then stumble even tho they're perfectly positioned up until the ball is a yard away! However ive scored a good few headers especially from corners but its definitly a glitch with them........ive had it too many times when im unmarked barely 6 yards out and my attacker just lobs the header at the keeper or over the bar!

So, is this near post/far post thing correct?

I also found that turning your body towards the attackers while crossing helps a bit.

I suggest you all have a go In Training Mode. Have 1 winger and two strikers, whilst only having a goalkeeper on the aposing side.
You'll soon see...

Been doing that, though not extensively. I'm starting to get the hang of it... Don't really know how to describe it, it's a "feel" thing, surely.

Still kinda broken, but at least I can try crosses more frequently than before.

This is how to do it. In my opinion it works ok. Only problem is you cant really place the pass. Like cut it back from the back line to the 16 line.
But up and down and tap is the way to get the ball to the near post far post or in the middle

When u say pushing UP. Do you mean left Analog up, or does it depend where the player stands? Check my almost perfect looking replica soccer field;-) When I stand where the X is, do I press left analoge UP (to the players rear) for a cross at the far post? And when I am 'O' and want to give a cross to the far post, do I press left Analoge UP as well (to the players front..)?

LoL nice one!!

But yes up as up on the stick no matter were you are. Doesnt matter if your player face the goal or sideline. Up is always the same up.

Oh and if you want it in the centre area release the analoge stick first and the tap 1, 2 or 3 times.
