Heavy Rain [PS3]

DILKINGTON!
Picked this up on ebay for £30. Took me a while to get into it. Very slow at the start but once it gets going it's brilliant.

Bought it off a mate yesterday as he bought it from England and it's only in English. 40 Euros.
Anyway haven't had much of a chance but from what a did play it reminded me a lot of Fahrenheit. Duh. Controls can be a pain but I'm use to that because of Fahrenheit. Can't wait to get really stuck into it.

Would love to live in a house like the one at the start of the game.

I completed Heavy Rain last night. I was enthralled in the end-game of the story. Disappointed with my ending in the sense that I had one of my heros die after being so close to achieving what I was hoping for with them. Overall, I consider it a fantastic game, but not without its flaws. I'd class it as a definite must play, though, without question. It is a unique experience, and a memorable one. And I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I shall play through the game in its entirety at least one more time. In part to see how different it can be, and to relax a little more with decisions rather than being caught up in the frenetic chaos that the game can conjure up. The latter is a compliment, and a testament to the story, the characters, and the music. And that just reminds me about getting my official soundtrack!

Does anyone managed to earn the Four Heroes award?

Yes. I recieved it on my first play through. I earned the award even with...

Norman Jayden dying in the final moments of the story. And Lauren Wynter dying just prior to the end-game getting under way. I assume Lauren Wynter is not classed as one of the four heroes, and that Norman Jayden had survived to reach the end-game, effectively completing the story before meeting an untimely demise.

Original?

I purchased this today, at full price which I'm loathe to do for a story based game, on the recommendation of you gimps. It best be bloody good.

I put it in the PS3... download version 1.01, fair enough... 226mb? Jesus H. Christ on a bike did they actually bother to put anything on the disc?! :erm:

I don't know if everyone will appreciate it a whole lot at full price. It is over quite quickly and the replay value may only stretch to doing the necessary chapters over again, with different choices, to progress for a different ending if you're that way inclined about the game. I'm not too upset about forking out £45 for the special edition (so long as I get my official soundtrack) as it's games like these that I like to see recieve good support so that the developer continues to forge new ground with their next title.

The best tip I would give anyone about to start the game, or anyone planning to purchase the game is to stay away from Heavy Rain threads, just incase you stumble upon who the killer is. I was starting to wonder about one of the characters, anyway, but something someone said on another forum, although not quite a spoiler, kind of confirmed my suspicions. It didn't ruin it for me as I was so far into the game and already suspecting said character myself. But without it I may have been a tad more shocked when it was revealed. As it was, though, I was too busy feeling smug about my detective work.

Waiting....
I'm on my second play through and managed to change the story quite significantly by making only one of the characters a good person, whereas last time they were all good bar one. So....

First time, Jayden was the bad guy, despite not being the killer, with everyone else being helpful and calm. Now that I know Shelby is the killer, I've decided to make him a bit of a cunt, starting by allowing Lauren's beating and I am planning on letting her drown. I failed to let the shopkeeper die, though, and I don't think it's possible to let the suicidal mother die, either.

I'm going to make Ethan fail all the tasks and basically be a coward. I tried to make Madison ignore Ethan when she first met him, but it doesn't seem to be possible. So instead, I made her be a poor carer of Ethan. It started with being a bad healer, up to the point Ethan told her to leave him alone. I reached the part where she has to help him escape the police after the salamander task (he did not cut off his finger, so he got shot instead). Instead of taking him to the subway, I decided to walk down the street, where we were stopped by the police and Maddison legged it.

Now that Ethan had been taken into custody by the police, and with Jayden playing "the good guy", I've helped Ethan escape.
I think that's as far as I am now.

First It Giveth
I've just finished it for the first time, pretty surprised about who the killer was. Went as follows:

Jayden was killed by Mad Jack after dropping the Tripto. Lauren drowned in the car but I managed to escape and kill Kramer (well, he had a heart attack but I did fuck all to help him). I then failed to escape the burning house with Madison and she ended up a nice medium-rare. I completed 4 out of the 5 tasks with Ethan and then correctly guessed where Shaun was, who I managed to save. Scott then confronted me but I didn't shoot him, then I got gunned down by the police outside. The press praised Madison for her efforts and the investigation continued into the identity of the killer with Blake suspended.

Very weird thing then happened, Blake tried on the ARI glasses and the office turned into a hilltop setting, but then Jayden (who is dead at this point) walked towards him from over a ridge and Blake shat himself. Ended with Shaun kneeling at Ethan's grave before the mother drags him away, with Scott looking on from a distance.

So all in all, a pretty shit effort.

My ending.
I did 3 of the tasks. I didn't kill the drug dealer and refused to drink the poison. I didn't guess the address correctly, as I ended up in a restaurant.

Madison: I initially hid below the table, but decided to open up the fridge, and hid in it. It was pure luck. I thought I'd grab something to drink before I die.

I made Jayden as the good cop, i.e, stopping Blake from hitting the religious-nutter, refused to kill, refused to take the drugs. I decided not to accuse Blake as the killer as I remember everyone would get the gold watch when they're promoted.

Jayden reached the safehouse, and saved the kid. Cutscene follows, and a fight between Jayden and Scott. I left it right to the end, as Scott was killed by that machine.

The ending, Jayden became the hero, and flushed away his drugs. Ethan bought a new house. Madison is seen in her apartment, having some sort of hallucination.

Lauren, was at Scott's grave, and showed her disgust.

Alright, well I've just played this through. I didn't see the twist coming at all. Managed to keep everyone alive (not necessarily intentional, I drank the poison after all). The start of the game was hilariously bad, that bastard Jason deserved to die.

The two most memorable scenes of mine were the most intense. The third trial and that insane drug supplying surgeon. I even checked to see if he was going to spike the drink; apparently he did.

My ending:
Shelby fell off the conveyor belt to his death. Ethan, Madison & Shaun got a new place together. Norman was praised and managed to get off the tripto but started having visions of tanks :/
