Help on beating CPU

Hi, i just wondered if anyone had any advice on beating the computer on 'top player' level. i started a prem lge with man u and i win some games and draw a lot, hardly ever lose, its just i find it hard to create a lot of chances and hard to score many goals.
Im after some advice on things like do you think thru balls work well or does the L1 + triangle chip thru pass get you good chances, i seem to spend most of the game battling away in midfield and not really creating much, and the cpu doesnt create much against me so defensivly im good, they rarely threaten my goal.

I useually always play 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, i do tend to mess around with my formation a lot cus im convinced its this that is letting me down, any help would be appreciated, thanks

for starters, use ronaldo as much as you can because he will run through most defences, equalliy with roony. and most impotently, the computer can not handle one- twos so rember to try this ( holding l1 when pressing x) this allows even defenders to run into the box.also, with wingers run down the wing, turn back quickly and turn in to the box as this fools the copmputer nearly every time. trust me with them tatics i beat lyon 7 nil with arsnal on top player!

If you think your defense is holding the computer out well, and you think it's your formation that is affecting your game, why not give it a try to play 3 backs, make sure your backs are quality players though.. And have 5 in the the midfield, or even 3 strikers. I'm not saying that's the solution, but in theory it should get you more goals.. And your defense might just hold them up. I've beaten 6 star level Valencia 9-0 with the 2-5-3 formation, and I don't just have all superstar players in my team. Annual total salary is 16,000, my 3 starting defenders are usually Pope, Nesta, Luisao with Anton Ferdinand and Nakazawa ready to come off the bench.

thanks people, i will use that advice from you, the 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 formation i have as strategy plan A but i dont like playing with it that much as i find the computer always knocks balls into the space down the flanks, so i end up having to get my wingers back from midfield so im essentially playing 5-3-2.
I think formation wise, chelseas formation is spot on, my prem league is picking up now tho, 7pts off top after 15 games, lost 1, won 8 drawn 6, im on a winning run of 4 on the bounce at the moment, so the advice is deffo helping, nic one peeps
