Help WE9

I'm currently playin on 5 star difficulty, and I encounter different problems with the gamplay, wonder if somebody could help me....

1. No matter what team I play against, they pass the ball like brazil on their best times, more over to accentuate this annoying style of play(which basically consits on keeping the ball as much time possible) sometimes the strickers or midfielders passes the ball directly to the keeper, which causes the whole passing routine to star again.

2. With this new fully implemented side-step dribbling it's a real pain in the ass to leave anybody behind, more so when the godforsaken defender seems to guess every move I make.(Any advice on dribbling)

3. Whenever I try to make a ground pass to any striker( :triangle: or :x: ) the following things occur: the guy making the pass seems to always pass it right in the direction where the defender is( very disturbing by the way) or he sends the ball with the speed of a bullet(okay maybe not the speed of a bullet, but pretty fast) Whenerver trying to make an air pass( :L1: :triangle:) the speed of the pass resembles more of a full scale bombing, than a pass. Now I know the buttons are sensitive, the problem is tapping it soft gets me no where, and strong to Baghdad.

Please do not care to respond if you are just gonna diss me or suggest that I try on another difficulty( I been playin WE for quite some time, and never had problems with the difficulty, not even on 6 star difficulty, which I figure in this game is gonna be pretty frustrating).

Hi there. Quite a few people are having the same issues. We don't have all the answers yet but here's what I've learnt from playing the game.

Don't play WE9 in the style you played PES4, WE8 or any previous games. It's very different. Pressing too much while defending gets you in trouble with fouls and gaps opening up. You will not be able to dribble past players so don't try it as often and only try it will very skillful players. Use R1 much less than before and only if you're in space.

Find a formation that you are comfotable with and try to modify it to suit you. But do not make a formation based on anything in PES4/WE8. You have to start again from scratch. Today I played as Cameroon using their default formation and I found it to be great. I copied it and used it with Brazil and it worked well there too. Give that a try if you can. It's kinda like a 4-4-2 diamond with no modifications on arrows.

I haven't figured out through balls or chipped through balls yet either. Most people say they do not work at all and a few say you have to get used to the new system and use them correctly. It seems a tap should be all that is needed.

Try to keep hold of the ball more often and be more patient both in attack and defence. Heading straight for the opponents goal will result in the ball being taken from you. And chasing after the ball like a headless chicken will leave you open to simple attacks.

Try keeping hold of R2 when dribbling as this has worked a couple of times for me. Perhaps your strikers are a little to isolated to be receiving these kinds of passes? It's a good idea to run towards the ball (using super-cancel) to make sure you get it. Try and play with good teams to get used to the game before adding some challenge to it.

And the CPU teams will always cheat so either find a way to cope with it or stick to playing against other people. Good luck. If you find any tips, do post them for the rest of us.

Thanks for the help :), Im glad im' not the only having trouble with these isusses..
I'll try your tips out, also surfing the gamefaq board I encounter the following skill(I don't know if it's old news or if its in the manual book, sorry):
While running don't press the directional keys, instead hold R1+R2 and tap 3X L1
it should result in something like this:
http://www.pesge.com/download/videos/grandpont.wmv
its seems great for doggin the keeper as you can see in the video

I couldn't agree more with the above.
It has been more than 10 days since I started playin this version. I remember I hate it the second I started dribbling, defending and trying to score. Players felt so heavy and unresponsive comparing to previous version. Now, I am in season 2 with Arsenal, and I have never been hooked to any version the way I am to this game now. My advice:

1. Forget WE8/PES4 or any other version. If you gonna approach this game with WE8 "mindset", you gonna be very disappointed. It is a totally different game, I think more realistic in general (not so good sometimes). Of course it has some obvious draw backs, but I will vent about this in a different post, maybe.

2. Dribbling: Dribbling is harder. I use a combination of R1 and R2 and some times only direction keys. I alternate between those three. Try to stop completely with R2, side step, or change direction before start running again. Try also to receive the ball with R2 and direction keys, to make your player stop the ball and turn to a certain direction (very useful inside your opponent’s penalty area). I find out also that when I hold :L1: when running with :R1:, it is harder to loose the ball. I am not sure this is in the manual but I feel it works with me, but don't over do it cause you will end up loosing the ball.

3. Passing: use x and direction. Similar to reality, the player has to be well balanced before trying to make a good pass. If not, try to stop the ball first. I find x here resembles more the manual pass in previous version cause now you can decide the direction and the power (in case of free kicks). You would never have the same pass accuracy you used to get in previous versions. This is again more relevant to real football. If you paid attention closely to real football matches, possession of the ball is lost USUALLY from passing under pressure rather from direct tackling. Actually, most physical or direct encounters in this game would end up in a foul. I know it is annoying sometimes (and not realistic), but you have to live with it.

4. Defending: like you have expected already, it is harder :). I would say different. Try to predict the next pass for your opponent and block it, rather than running after the ball or straight in your opponent. x works only when you can touch directly the ball, try to sprint next to the your opponent first, till you feel more comfortable to press x, and only then you can take the ball easily. Sliding works too, I managed to use it safely now, without yellow cards or fouls. When your opponent has the ball, Use :square: a lot to apply pressure from other team mates and direct your control player to where you EXPECT the next pass. but take care not to expose your defense while doing this. In defense also, some times you have to wait for the ball, work on organizing your defense rather than being aggressive running after the ball which used to work in previous versions.

5. Offense: SHOOT, SHOOT and SHOOT. You can score possibly from every angle no matter how dead it looks to you sometimes. I know this is different than any previous version. I try to practice to Use :R2: after I shoot, it should give you better control and aiming. Crossing with circle + circle is not effective as before, actually single tap works better with me. Ship through works, but you have to do it from further than you would before. Otherwise, it is WAY out of target or to goal keeper hands. I scored twice from it, but lost the ball maybe 80 times tryin using it as well :) Similar to cross button, now you can tap the through button once or twice or three times to control the height. The usual through is basically the same, but again you have to direct right, cause the CPU won't make that for you as it used to do before. In Shooting, try to be very sensitive with aquare button otherwise, you would sky the ball while you are in the six yards and the goal is all empty (happened 4 times with me).

6. Formation: teams apply zone press and offside game much harder. You should take advantage of that in you defense. As you might have noticed, you have 2 new positions (ST, WG) and a lot of standard templates to choose from. I noticed players move more freely in the pitch, and don't stick literaly to their areas. I think scoring is harder than defense in this game. I am still trying out different formations with strategies, but I found out that I can defend with less players and spare more players to offense. Players get tired much faster, so always better to use your 3 subs.

Hope this helps.

Enjoy! ;)

You will see that eventually WE9 is infinitely better than any other WE game to date. Just gotta adjust to the new "style" of playing.

This game definitely rewards the player the more you play it. Ive gotten used to it pretty quickly and now dominate 5 stars quite a bit. By dominate, I beat the CPU by a goal or two and as soon as your down a goal, boy do you start getting aggressive and when you do score its so much more rewarding.

Only thing I have found not very useful at all atm is L1+^ through ball. Its to quick and goes too far with the keeper always running out to either catch it or clear it. Works well down the wing though.

Thats rite learn the game & to me (I'm playing six stars) I feel that some team(com) play defensive some offensive..(man I hate it when they juz pass ard & do nothing!!!) & also beacuse 6 stars they tends to attk more so chances of you getting the ball is higher so play 6 stars its easier than 5. Dun use too much cancel(L1+R2) in this version as its weaker then the previous version.. or you'll your players turning stupid... the new side step is really good use it to do combo to fake your oppnents. If you wanna do long shot try to use players with *middle shoot* stats & Hold R2 when shooting, increase your chances outside the box others without are... a little like shit...ha.. also learn to adjust your players position with R2 to head for def or attk. But one important thing I found out is the players are really dumb sometimes or dun listen to your command so have to improve you formation so dun anyhow point your arrows. Due to the improve defense, its recommanded that you play lesser attker cos they will mark each of them(for com) so its good to play only 1 CF then 1 ST of 2 OMF behind the CF the com seems to juz let them go(lesser marking) ha...

so does the R2 improve the accuracy of shots? do we press it after shooting or before pressing square? the new wingbacks position plays more like a winger but do drop back and defend. but they require players with very gd stamina. i played using japan and my wingbacks always runs out of energy before the end of the game. the new positions in we9 gives players more options in tactics.

There is 2 new way to shoot in WE 9

Control shoot 1---- after charging shot (square) then press R2
the player will be forced to use the in boot to shoot thus improve the accuracy & also keep the ball low but using the

Control shoot 2 --- same controls as above but press R2 when your the foot is abt to contact the ball.. the later you press R2 the more fake is induce.. good for close distance with the goalie something like a fake shot but with more power & no lob effect.
