How Do I Stop The Shooting Button From Sending The Ball Over The Bar?

Britvic

Can somebody please tell me how I can stop the shooting button from sending the ball high and over the bar? This is a VERY frustrating problem in PES3. Even when I just tap the square button lightly, the blasted ball STILL sails high over the goal.

When I shoot at goal, I want to apply power to the strike, but at the same time, I want the ball to stay LOW to the ground, not bleedin well soar up into high heaven!

I have lost count of the times I have had golden opportunities to score goals, but have been eternally frustrated by the ball going too high into the air!

Please can somebody tell me how to keep my shots low and hard before I tear all my hair out with utter frustration?

Thanks.

I think it may have to do with how hard you tap the button. I sometimes tap it hard - for a low power shot but it gets blasted high. Maybe press it softer.

How long you hold the shoot button doesnt so much control the power but more the height of the shot. You litterally have to lightly tap square to hit a low shot but even then they are rarely powerful. I think its just a little flaw within the gameplay.

must be cold, missed keystrokes every damn where...

Yeah, just fondle the [] button, rather than slap it. Although the odd slap doesn't go astray sometimes...

Flipper, you're just about spot on with that remark. Shooting can just be too random in PES3 sometimes.

The idea of the bar being a height bar is spot on. I mean think about it, a power bar is silly: when don't you wanna shoot the ball hard? (obviously, if kicking it hard means sacrificing accuracy, then that is an exception, but we'll just conveniently forget this exception for now).

But all in all, I'd like much more control with the shooting in any soccer game. I'd like a button to force the player to kick with whatever foot they're currently not controlling the ball with, rather than them trying to turn themselves inside out to hit it with their 'preferred' foot.

I'd also like to be able to control the curl on the ball. But not so easily as just pressing a button, it would need to be dependant on the player's position and a combination of other factors (and perhaps a skill you would need to pull off much like the R2 tricks).

Sometimes, don't you just wish you could sacrifice a bit of power for a bit more inside-of-boot curl? Or on the other hand, wouldn't you rather the player hit it with the outside of his boot when running straight at goal as hard as he can? At the moment it's too random which occurs. You can predict which kind of shot you're going to get, but you can't necessarily control it in a heated battle.

But I think the PS2 control pad may be to limiting for what I want! Sony, we need a football boot control pad!!

Exactly. However the shooting system does need to be changed. I mean you cant drill a hard and low shot from 30 yards out and it will skim along the deck all the way. If anyone saw Shefki Kuqi's goal for Ipswich against Cardiff on last day of the season you will know what i mean. And his shot had curl - another thing that is missing (perhaps in future you could use :R1: & :R2: to add curl?). Perhaps :square: should control the power of the shot after all, and the analog stick controls the placement ie aim towards goal to hit top of the net and pull away from goal when shoting to drill the ball low.

Can't guarantee this but...
Treating the power bar as controlling height is good. Anything much over 50% will likely go high.

The strength of the shot can vary depending on if the player takes the shot in his stride, and on his good foot, or not.

First-time shots and volleys are generally more powerful but can swerve off if not well-timed.

Shooting while R1 sprinting, especially following a double-tap on the left-stick/d-pad
or running onto a speed burst (R1+R2 + diagonal) give lots of power but accuracy varies wildly, again mostly seems to depend on timing it in the players stride.

Try holding other buttons while hitting [], or just after while the power bar still shows. I don't think there's a consensus, but try holding R2 for more power. I think moving from [] to /\ appears to give a bit of 'dip' on shots.

I think pulling away from the goal (back towards the half-way line) can sometimes keep shots lower, but there may be a trade off against shot power.

I remember in the old ISS:Deluxe on the SNES, you controlled the placement of your shot by the direction you were holding.

Diagonal and towards the goal was a shot up, towards the top corners.

Diagonal and away from goal meant a low powerful drive. And you controlled curl simply by pressing the D-pad in the direction you wanted it (which isn't particularly realistic).

It's certainly a fine line between what we have now, and totally blowing the controls, and buggering it (not that I expect Konami to do this...)

I have devised new controls for PES. Tell me what you think. (the power bar is now a height bar in all cases)

:R1: + :square: is a power shot.
:L1: + :square: is a placed shot

:square: then :R1: is a low chip
:square: then :L1: is a high chip

:R2: and :L2: are used to apply swerve.

continued . . .

Flipper the Priest

The Northern Light
:R1: + :circle: is a near-post cross
:L1: + :circle: is a back post cross

Again, :R2: and :L2: are used for swerve and the double tap and triple tap methods are still in place.

I feel this would give much more control over finishing and crossing- both I feel are lacklustre is PES3- and would place more emphasis on player's ability. Like Beckham would be class at crossing compared to Martin Keown and so on.

Because I wouldn't mind so much in PES3 if your players didn't quite pull off what you had in mind rather than doing something totally random.

Which they do.

All the time.

Flipper, you can control crossing in PES3 already

:circle: = cross to player at far post
:circle: :circle: = cross to player in near post
:circle: :circle: :circle: = low, powerful cross along the ground
:R1: + :circle: = cross in front of player

if you were simply suggesting a better method for crossing in your previous thread then i apologise for telling you something you already know.

Ta, I suspect that beyond the basics shown in the Training Options, everybody has developed their own interpretations of aiming and shooting.

There are some clear chips and feints well known, but for shot effects like power and dip I can't find a real consensus.

WE8 promises a lot more relevant on-screen instructions available. I think Konami know that controls and effects have become so variable that players need more clear guidance.
