How do you do lift the ball up to volley it ?

I've read about people lifting the ball up and volleying it.
How is this done ? Its mentioned as the up/down trick.
Also how do you flick the ball over your head ?

yes it is the "up down" trick, you simply press DOWN then UP quickly with the right analog stick as you are running with the ball, the player will flick it up. you can also lob goalies with it from close range!!! cool.

flicking the ball over your head happens really infrequently for me, supposedly when the ball comes to you at about knee/waist height you flick the d-pad in the opposite direction. hard to pull off though!
