How do you play the ML?

I guess there are basically 2 ways. 1) to re-create "your" team 2)to build the ultimate dream team.
I personally always preferred to build the team I use (in my case Roma) and only then make some "new" transfers. This however is not so easy with PES3 since you can't get "your" players for free. I liked this in PES2 and I think it was not too easy since in division 3 it was difficult finishing the season even when winning because the payroll for all your stars was pretty high. I think it is a bit sad that it is almost as easy to get a player from another team than to sign a guy who is on no team because he originally is on the team you use.
So what I did is basically sign all Roma players which I could get, and now by signing free agents (cool!) i try to get the remaining players who already were signed by other teams. My dream would be to start the 3rd year of my ML with a 100% Roma squad and then start to modify it according to its needs.
So how do you play the ML?

I like to build up a team with good players but no superstars, i have players as Titov, Luis Enrique, Madhakiva, etc. and i still have Voorlander and Stremer waiting for minutes!

I prefer this way than buying super players

what settings does everyone use at the start of the master league?

like the frequency the cpu teams transfer and how easy It is for the player to buy players?

Which settings make it the most realistic?

i would advise buying sonck and mbo mpenza, then play a 4-3-3 with castello in there. that should get you into d1 to start buying quality!!

I start on 3*. More fun to build the squad and then once in a while, snap up a big star. At the moment Im making a u23s of current players. Ive already figured out my squad:-

GK - Cassillas, Frey, Carini
CBT - Mexes, Luizao, Metzelder, Ferrari, Yobo
DMF - Stevie Gerard, Xavi, Cambiasso
LW - Riise, Chivu, Robben, Olembe
RW - Lee Chun-Soo, C. Ronaldo,Diesler, J. L. Samuel
OMF - Emre, Rosicky, Aimar
CF - Diouf, Owen, Ronaldinho, Saviola, Fernando Torres

I know I could have put some more obvious choices in that squad but I wanted to spread out the nationalities (3 at the most from one country). Once I've got them (or most of them), I'll switch to 4* and then sell them and start building my superstar all time dream time (no limitations):-

GK - Yashin, Kahn, Buffon
CBT - Rijkaard, Beckenbauer, F. Cannavaro, Ferdinand, Passerella, Nesta, Baresi
DMF - Davids, Viera, Didi
WG - Roberto Carlos, J. Zanetti, Best, Kewell
OMF - Cryuff, Zidane, Zico, Maradona, Totti
CF - Van Basten, Pele, Shevchenko, Di Stefano

I will move up to 5* once I feel I can (probably be once I've got 60% of my dream teem.

i started with 3stars, got promoted, and after winning the first 5 (already with totti, emerson, cassano...) switched to 4stars which seems perfectly fine for me.
i set cpu-transfer activity to 3 out of 4 which maybe was a bad thing since the CPU transfers a LOT and quite a few teams look very different. i am sentimental and like star players where they should be, my biggest shock was to see Nesta at Valencia :-(

The most exciting is starting with 5* and with all the settings in the hardest mode, it's difficult but it's more realistc because it's hard to build up a team and you've to play a lot with default players.
