How do you stop the CPU?

:mad: :mad: Is it just me or is the computer no fun to play against. I have absolutely no answer to them. I played 8 games today, and in all of them I dominated the game, scored 1-2 goals and the cpu came back in stoppage time by doing one of their cheated goals (the ones where you become a passenger who has no control over anything that happens, e.g. your tackles give the tackled player the ball back 4x in a row, defenders mysteriously fall down at crucial moments, etc.)

all bitching aside, I feel like giving the game away. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I am not getting better, and I am no longer having fun. I am not new to the game, I've played 4+ seasons worth of games. I know how to patienly posses the ball, contain on defense, and score all kinds of goals. I am playing on 4* at least untill I finish this league I started, but I can't win a game!

has anyone else hit a wall like this? anyone got any advice on things to try or practice? I need help

they key to playing the computer is use lots of crosses and take ur chances... and you have to counter attack.. get em while they dont have many people in the box... if u do that thenm u will win.. but in saying that u need a lot of practice to do that
so keep practising

i was gonna say something about the player form arrows - do make a habit of checking that out at least right before kickoff - but 8 games in a row of blue/grey form arrows for most of the team is an impossibly bad streak

i had a 5 game streak where all but perhaps one player was above a blue arrow and that was frustrating beyond any video game experience ive ever had - and i think that's a record breaker so..

:L2: + tap :R1: repeatedly - increases your team's offensive and attacking tendencies towards red.. everyone including defenders play further up after you get beyond yellow..

:L2: + tap :R2: repeatedly - drops the gauge towards the blue end (which when dropping below yellow) focuses more on defensive tactics.. team's attacking is restrained, they play back more and more..

so your prob isnt scoring goals its just keeping them out of your net when youre up or even, so i hope this helps some

and if all else fails you can just go to a 5-something-something def formation

An idea for a formation that can get you goals relatively easier is the 4-4-2 this really only works if you have a fast RWF player a very effective player Is Zuma from south Africa the formation is like this
*

* * * *

* * *

*Place fast wide player here.

* *

* each of the stars represent a player lol hope this helps!

Hi Celtic. Listen, there have been a couple of threads like this one before, and the answer is always the same: keep on playing. We all know the computer cheats, but the fact is that if the computer is 1 goal down in stoppage time he will go on "full attack" (e.g. offense oriented). what u wanna do is keep urself defensively oriented (follow kneros' post above) and sting them in the counter attack. Most of the veterans in this site are playing 5* and are able to kick the cpu's ass from here till the next century, so don't get mad (even though it's a very bad advice) and just keep on playing.
And while in stoppage time don't try anything stupid like dribbling in your own half as the computer does cheat :)

I was kinda afraid you guys would say something like that, but I have a formation question. when I push up ( :L2: + :R1: ) my midfielders tend to push into the box where the cpu always has 6-7 defenders, effectively taking them out of the play. Is there a formation or strategy that doesn't have this weakness? and after corner kick clearances, my defensive midfielder waits uselessly in the center circle. any formation or setting that fixes this?

if you notice heavy defensive traffic in the penalty area get the ball back out towards mid field(or just outside the box 25-35m or so), drawing the defense out as well.. then when they are reaching out to you by leaving the box, check your radar and work the ball back towards the goal area in the quickest manner possible(crosses are great in these situations to catch the 'backs on their heels or quick passes back thru the middle to attacking forwards)

go to 'set formation' then 'individual' then 'attack' - scroll down to your DMF and set his arrows forward then select OK(you'll see what i mean)
then do likewise for his 'defense' - set his def arrow to 'low'

and also make sure that your attk gauge is on red before you take your corner - that helps put more of your guys in the box

hope this helps

It's vital to use Line Defence as well. I simply can't stress that enough.

i had to stop using that as they were preserving the back line a little too well - staying put while attackers just walked right up to them and then letting them get behind the line too easy

but :sigh: im not exactly working with master defenders on my ML team

this may sound crazy, but bump up to 5*difficulty. it seems like the cpu defends like a human(lots of r1 and overcommitting). if you have a decent enough team, you should be able to take advantage more and exploit with one-time passing.

at least it seems that way to me

if u are struggling in defense play a 4 - 4 - 2 formation with a diamond midfeild... this will give u 5 men at the back for defense...

I'm out of the rut, thanks for the tips. it's funny that every time I get stuck, turning the difficulty up fixes it almost immediately. 707 feels me on that. but when you change a player's defense to high/low does that just change their positioning or does it modify how aggresively they tackle?

that arrow representing each player points back to your goal.

the bigger the arrow the more tendency they have to play back and defend

Seriously, playing Line Defence helps me a lot. Also, I hold :square: the entire time I'm defending. It makes a computer controlled defender do all the running and hassling and then I take control of a man to cover him if the attacker breaks through.
