How to score?

I have been playing WE7 for about 3 weeks now and my scoring rate is abysmal. More often than not, it is either 0-0 penalty shoot out or 1-0 in my favour or the CPU favour. I have no problem with defending and I have a great defensive record. My problem is that most of the time, I am defending and not really attacking despite choosing formation 4-3-3, 3-4-3 or even 3-5-2.
If there is a formation 2-4-4(not 442) I would have chosen it. I have three questions which are in need of answers. Perhaps someone could help.

1. My strikers tend to be marked most of the time by the CPU defenders. How can I run into space. I tried pressing R2 to make them run into space. I am not sure whether I am hitting the right key because the player which I am controlling the ball with will do some fancy moves instead of my strikers running into space.

2.My strikers tend to stray into an offside position. How can I ensure that my strikers will not run into an offside position. Is there any keys which I need to press. It is really annoying to see the ref always blowing for offside.

3.During crosses from the flank, my strikers tend to mingle round the penalty spot and when they connect the header it is not powerful enough. Is there any button(R2?) where I can move them forward when the ball is in the air so that the header shot has more force to it.

is this your first time playing a pes/we game? if so, bear with it. i remember when i bought pes2 after only really playing iss on the psx from 3 years previous and i couldnt score for the first few weeks of playing... even on 3 stars :-\

i remember getting like 1-0 wins or losses. lots of 0-0's/ one day it will just click and you will start scoring goals and having class games.

Even if this isn't your first experience with WE/PES, stick with it. I've had the game for a few weeks and have similar problems as you do -- trouble scoring.

My main problem is that I still have the PES2/WE6 mentality. There are certain things you couldn't do in previous versions of the game which you can do now, most notably first-time volleys and off-balanced shots that still have a good chance of making it on goal. In order to master the game, you've got to be able to adapt to these new skill sets and possibilites in the game. The timing of the game, and the amount of space the CPU leaves you, is also something that takes time getting used to.

But, with practice, improvement comes. Just keep at it. That's what I'm doing...and still loving every minute of the game. You can adjust formations and such, but the best way to fix your game and get better results is just plain old practice.

You should consider that WE7 is totally different from the previous version. A big difference in running out and speed. Make sure you pass the ball more in this game. I depend alot on one/two passing and this puts me a good situation at an average scoring rate of 2 goals in a game.

When marked by a defender don't try to dribble or use short turns. What I do in this case whenever I feel that my No.1 striker is being marked I put the arrow backwards to give him more space to do the one/two passing and break thru' the defenders.

The best about WE7 is that you don't need much control when you are one:eek:ne with the goalkeeper. It seems most strikers are capable of directing the ball to pass the keeper and scores.

Regarding the formation I use th 3-4-3 ALWAYS.

You haven't said what level you're playing on.
When I first started on WE7, I took it down to 3* to get used to it, then 4* and now I am kicking every ass that I see on 5*.

5* - Wales 4 - 1 Italy
(shame the real result didn't turn out like that)

Try using the Wide camera mode to help see passes better. Make use of the team strategies like Counter Attack. And using the team attack attitude bars will help too.

I play 3-5-2 with 2 DMFs and it's very solid. You may need to try 2 DMFs and 1 OMF to see how much it can help you in midfield. This formation makes me the boss of midfield in most games but may not work for everyone.

I score a lot of goals from corners and sometimes from free kicks so practice those too.

I am currently playing at the 3* level. Even at this level, I find that the competition is intense. The AI is really incredible. Despite choosing an attacking formation, my strikers are literally marked out of the game. The CPU defenders seem to move a little bit faster than my strikers. So it is difficult to pass the ball unless they can run into space. As my WE7 is a Japanese version, I could not find the team attitude bar where I can prefix the attacking attitude for good. But I stumbled on something instrumental. I noted that we can now assign two directions for each player (excluding goalkeeper) instead of one as in WE6 F/E.
So how make your player run into space? How do you prevent your player from straying into an offside position? Does OMF or DMF has any bearing on where the player is going to move? Last but not least, how to you beat the last defender on a run. I have tried using R1, R2 and even perform the sidestep but to no avail. I know that at times we can use the directional buttons but it will not be of use here, because I cannot afford to slow down as there are defenders chasing me from behind like a bullet train.

i had the same trouble as yourself on level 3, as noted in a previous post somewere. the same boring frustrating 0-0 draws or scrape with 1-0 wins, moved it up to level 4, and more of the same scorelines, then moved up to level 5 and for some reason ive managed to get my game together and am kicking ass. i think the higher level has made me raise my game and play a quicker passing game and less tricks and dribbling, although i still skin the shit out of defenders. slowing down and then just as the defender's just about to make the tackle r2 it to his left or right to go past him and then leave him for dust, good for beating the last man. angled shots work really well just as in pes2, very quick passing is needed around the box, something really easy to do in this game.
does anyone know how do to that trick were u go to cross it and then do this feint cross, which totally fools the defenders and makes loads of space for yourself(u know the one im talking about?)??ive managed to do it three times but don't know how the hell to do it. is this just a random thing that the computer does for u soemthimes or is there any skill in it? any knowledge on this would be appreciated cause it is a powerful trick.

In WE6 F/E, we can perform a feint shot by pressing square and x.
In WE7, through sheer serendipity, I discovered that by pressing circle and x, the player will perform some kind of feint. We can use that everywhere, not only on the flanks to fool the defenders. Not too sure whether that it is the feint cross.

It is. You could do it in PES2 and WE6:FE too pretty much all over the pitch, as long as it's not too close to your own goal.

the cross feint that i was talking about isn't the old one that was in pes2, it's a brand new one that ive done a few times by fluke. it appears that the player has completely miskicked the ball, it totally fools the defender into sticking out a leg and lunging for the ball, but the trick has managed to pull u inside with loads of space. it look like something out of the jay jay ockcha trick book. there's someone in evo-web who has the trick played as their aviator, but even he doesn't know how he's done it.

It's none of those, Zyg.

I know exactly what you're talking about slasher. I believe it was in the WE7 Master Class 'Unexplained' section of the website but I checked right now and it doesn't appear to be there anymore, oddly.

Anyway, I can tell you that it is pure luck and just a messed up animation that, purely coincidentally, can get you past a player on the flanks. I've done it with Ronny and Pires each.

Someone on Evo-Web has his avatar set as a small GIF file showing it. I think his alias is 'matt' something or the other.

As I said, just a messed up animation.
