i think if your player play in certain positions, the manager should allow you to take free kicks, i reckon AMF, CMF, SMF should have some opportunities to take free kicks, but i am not 100% sure about which position can always give you chances of taking free kicks, so far i only played as CF, i always have the chance to take penalty kicks but not those type of free kicks with opposition players standing in front of you like a wall, you need to try playing in different positions to find out which position has the most opportunities for free kicks.

I'm not the best kicker in the team but one of them though.
I think it's random who takes the free kicks. Not totally random but random in the way that the teams set piece takers is set from the start. For example C Ronaldo takes the free kicks for Real Madrid. So if you transfer to them and they substitute him and you play the same position you will execute them. The same goes for the captain role i think. Just a theory though
