I need help winning games...newbie...

I need some tips on winning games...I am currently playing hard and started an extreme season concurrently. On my hard season I am currently in my 3rd season and just finished the quarter finals for the master cup. I keep on getting shut down as soon as I get into the opponents side of the pitch. Passing is either intercepted or they slide tackle me and I either fall and no foul is called or I try and jump over the slide tackle and i lose control of the ball. I've a couple of wnged attempts at goal and have been playing failry good except for the above. I am at the top of my bracket so I'm not having that much difficulty at scoring just need tips on playing smarter.
I tried to start a extreme season and got frustrated and threw my controller a couple of times  currently my season is 1w 3l 1d...I suppose I'm not ready for extreme I even tried using created players and still get shut down as soon as I get to the other side of the pitch. Any ideas on how to improve my game? I don't have any human opponents to help me improve my game. Thanks for any tips you can give me.

deurges, please show us your team and subs so we can advise on players.

The most popular options are to play 4-4-2 diamond midfield or 3-5-2 with 2DMFs. Stick with the basics of playing players in their correct positions and don't play anyone on a white form arrow (down) and try to avoid blue arrows if you can. Give your CFs, OMF and SMFs, attack attitude arrows towards the opposition goal and experiment with strategies and the team attack attitude.

Buy some classic players if you can to help out for a while.

Buying Babangida of Nigeria is a must!

As Zyg said, post your squad and we will be able to make suggestions in terms of formation and buying players.

Cheap/free players are pretty essential early on. Look for

Olisadebe CF (Poland)
Babangida WG (Nigeria - as already mentioned he is a must)
E. Mpenza CF (Belgium)

These three are particularly good cheap (possibly all free) players to start with, and indeed to carry on with - I still use 'em in season 10 on hard.

Someone mentioned classic players - definately agree. They are ALL FREE. So pick who you want. I'd suggest:

Attackers:
Maradona
Van Basten
Pele
Cruyff
Gullit
Zico
Di Stefano
Platini

Defenders:
Rijkaard
Koeman
Baresi

[ If you haven't unlocked all the classic teams, here's how you get 'em:

Win the International Cup on any settings

Unlock World All-stars
Win the International League on any settings

Win the European Cup on any settings using England, Germany, France, Holland or Italy to unlock the all-stars team for the team you used.

Unlock Brazil and Argentina All-stars

To unlock the Classic Italian team win the European Cup with Italy
]

Never try and jump over tackles manually it doesn't work.

You said you had difficulty with completing passes. Try to keep an eye on the radar at all times - this will give you an idea of where you have men free. Also, remember sometimes the best way to go forward is to go back. Don't be afraid to lay it back to your midfield from your strikers - you'll get better runs and open up space as the computer will be more stretched. When signing players look for good "S-pass speed" as this'll reduce the chances of interecept as well as "passing" and "1-1 tch pass" stars.

deurges, try playing using the Wide camera angle and you will see it is much easier to find passing options.

If your only just starting out and want to sign a good quality striker i'd get Nuno Gomes from Fiorentina. His stats aren't amazing but he has scored loads of goals for me, try getting Pizarro from Peru aswell he's got a great shot on him, his default name is Ziparro.

Try playing as one of the better teams in the game aswell, so that their players become free agents for you to sign.

Here's the team I'm working with...

Here is the team I am working with...I am playing as Arsenal on Extreme

Default Team:

GK Yashin
CBT Suarez
CBT Scirea
CBT Adams
DMF Myself (created player based on Keane)
SMF Ljungberg
SMF Babangida
OMF Rivelino
OMF Stoitchkov
CF Fran (created player based on Van Nistelrooy)
CF Olisadebe

Backups:

DF Issa, A. Cisse, Diatta, Vorlander (also my DMF sometimes)
MF Parlour & Mostovoi
CF Wiltford & Emile Mpenza
GK Seaman

My formations are 4-4-2, 3-5-2 (preffered formation) & 3-4-3 when I think I can dominate the team...

So far I'm doing better now...my 3rd division record was 8-6-0 and after I added about half the group and dropped most of the default team I am currently 6-1-0 and about to start the quarter finals. My only qualms right now are working on scoring of my crosses when the opposing team doesnt let me get near the penalty box. Also working on scoring more consistently, my average is 2 goals per game i've sqeezed a couple of 1-0 games and have gotten 2 games where I scored 4 goals. I'd like to get to the point of scoring 3 goals a game cause winning at 1-0 only nets me less than 100 points luckily I've made it this far in the cup and won the tiny cup otherwise I'd be hurting for winning and trying not to go bankrupt at the end of the season. I seem to have a pretty good team intact now just need to work on strategy and getting better counter attacks it seems....I dont loose the ball as often but working my way up the field sometimes gives me problems....also kicking the ball up the field in a long pass never really works for me am i doing something wrong? any help is appreciated....

Nice one deurges, nice to see someone improving their game!
I tend not to make long passes up field unless i am real danger at the back, then you just have to do whatever you can to get rid of it and quickly get your team out and on the attack.

Here are some more players you might wanna add to your team if they are available:
Chilavert, Doni, West, Gamarra, Fadiga, Rebrov (apparantly a good player but i've never used him), Tofting (another player who is supposed to be quite decent).

When you've got quite a few points try investing in a quality striker, someone like Nuno Gomes who cost me around 4000 points i think. He was my top goalscorer and assister in the 2nd division with 22 goals and 13 assists. If you buy Gomes use the 3-4-3 formation and play Gomes as the CF with Olisadebe as LF and Mpenza as RF, this was a great trio for me in getting me promoted.

I won the first division for the first time today on Extreme after 5 seasons (spent 2 in the 3rd), i also won the ML Championships quite easily. I had myself a nice little spending spree in the off-season buying:
Di Vaio
Shevchenko
Ballack
Riquelme
Nowotny

deurges, maybe try out playing with 2DMFs in your formation.

Mostovoi of Russia is a great midfield man who can play DMF and OMF and has great skills. Try him out.

Deurges mate as a fellow gooner i feel i should share some Pes wisdom with u i found that my most productive formation that got me out of ML div 3 and two was playing a either a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3 either way Babangida, empenza and olisade are must buys cause of there pace and power i normally play with olisade as a target man (CF) and babangida and empenza palying either side of him or altenativly olisade and empenza upfront with babangida just behind the two in a 4-4-2 diamond formation.

another player i found useful was junihio.p from brazil and edilson they both have reasonable stats
