I agree with geronimo! Why is everybody so concerned about the ball, the kits, the faces etc. PES is ALL about gameplay. Isn't that why we love it?

For a start, it is already a well known fact that the gameplay in PES is well ahead of its nearest competitor (Fifa). Much as I would like to see more innovation to the gameplay, I would not like to see a game played by polygons that you cannot identify with. Even the names of the player add tremendous value to the game, let alone the real kits and faces etc. PES/WE is as close to real life, even the ball physic is getting better and better. Both
cosmetics and gameplay are absolutely necessary for a complete feel.

yo chaps, hows the goin? im amazd that with everyone playing the demo, nobody's writing about the gameplay, its all about the ball and crap like that. for those of us who are in disadvantaged areas, can anyone give a quick review of the gameplay?

I was fortunate enough to get a copy of the demo yesterday and have since played quite a few (half) games, my initial response was excitement and delight, the game seems to be a lot smoother, there are more animations, it looks to be a good package. However, after a while and a little scrutiny disappointment kicked in, I now feel that the game is moving towards FIFA type control, by which I mean that everything is predetermined, you press the X to pass the ball, the exact direction (little bit of swerve) and weight of pass are controlled by the CPU, press the O, the trajectory and velocity are again mostly controlled by the CPU. I like to ping the ball, you can not do this as you could in PES2, and of course the have moved the manual pass which for me was not a good move, granted they are more moves and tricks, but during the course of a game how often do you use them?? I think that ball control should be that of FIFA96 where you had full control of the ball, a 50 yard pass in to the path of your winger was all your own work!!!

I will still be buying the completed game, and I am sure I will have hours of good games!!!

Some of the above disappointments may also be down to me not mastering the finer controls so my opinions may again swing back to delight, well hopefully.

I don't agree me amigo, its all about game play, I have played most football games over most platforms going back to match day, and that is going back! But it is always the game play that makes the game what it is, for example can anyone deny that FIFA is the best looking game out, and has been for some time, but the Pro Evo series game play stands head and shoulders above it, and that is why we love and eagerly anticipate the next release!?!

I think the PES3 passing is good. You have normal passes, through passes and air passes, plus a manual alternative to all of this to give you full control (and blame!).

Zyg Please tell me how you manual pass on PES3?

You have options of type of pass, but that is about it.

Eg X pass the weight of the pass should be controlled on how long the button is depressed, in real life I could pass a ball along the ground at different levels of pace, you can not do that on PES3

Also Manual should mean manual, and the CPU should never change the cursor, but it does, and it should also give you full control of the ball and player in being controlled.

Just my opinion!

Having full control of the keepers movements is a good edition though!

Are you FIFA in disguise!?!

The more I play it the more disappointed I am. I have noticed that even the headers automaticaly go towards the closest player and not where you direct them using the d-pad.

Still very good game play, but it could be oh so much better!

The R3 button is the one where you press down on the centre of the Right Analogue Stick - you hear a click when you do it.

I believe people have said that there is a slight difference in the passing, for when you press X or /\, try tapping the button sometimes or hold it down. Some of the passes are pressure sensitive.

Commentary during the 3rd match of the world cup:-
"Rooney! Scores his third goal of the tournament"
True and accurate! Good stuff.

And then at the end of the match:
"England have done enough to qualify from their group"

Next match, Beckham penalty...
"Beckham, Goal! Scores his second of the tournament.
Pressure means nothing to this man"

Shirely one of u must have played ISS 3? I was disappointed when i heard the one of ISS 3 would'nt be do the commentary as he is extremely good and better than Brooking, The commentary in ISS 3 was on par with FIFA!! A good example was when i was playing and Owen scored the commentary went"Absolouetly superb another great finish from the England Hitman."

That's Jon Champion, I believe. Yes, his commentary is good but then so is Brooking's, it's just that he's presented with a loosely translated Japanese document that he has to try to do his best with. Not much room for leway. Considering this is what we're stuck with, the above is promising.
