Winning Eleven 8 World Soccer announced for PS2™ - Pre-order your copy now!

Good news for all soccer (we call it football, but, oh, well) fans out there. Konami of Japan has announced the forthcoming World Soccer Winning Eleven 8, for release on the PlayStation 2™ this Summer. Yes! That's pretty good news on a shiny monday morning. Winning Eleven (aka Pro Evolution Soccer, as it's called outside Japan), made it easily to be the most successful soccer series of the past years.

The street date is set exactly one year and one day after World Soccer Winning Eleven 7 was released in Japan (for the curious: Winning Eleven 6 was released on 25 of April 2002, so we don't exactly have one-year intervals).

The game will feature over 130 playable teams in Master League mode, as well as a new system that helps you even out the growth and decline of your system's particular talents, so you can tweak them to become better at certain things.

# We've listed known features as of today. 138 master league teams available
# More than 200 teams planned
# Player names should be accurate for teams from England, Germany, Spain, Italy, France and the Netherlands
# Free kicks can be played with one or two players
# New modes for through pass and centering allowing more control to the player
# Jerseys get dirty during gameplay
# Improved control of players & ball
# New Help screens & pause screen with quick control
# Referee is visible on the field during play
# JFA licenced Japan A team and Japan under 23 team

We look at a few very nice additions while the list from above is not meant to be complete yet.

Free kicks can now played with two players (free kicks were not particularly easy to play in WE7 and often resulted into just kicking the ball away), we should have new ball control techniques, we have new modes for development or retirement of master league players etc.

They said we'll be looking to incorporate new Soccer rules, while we have no clue which ones they should be (ie. which ones were missing in WE7/PES3).

It goes without saying that World Soccer Winning Eleven 8 is a must for all fans of the series and for all soccer fans out there. Konami has proven to be well able to serve the hottest, most realistic and most thourough soccer games you can get.

World Soccer Winning Eleven 7 won easily any award we could think of, including The GameSpot Editors' Award, Gamer's Choice Award, CESA Game Award, Les Playstation Award and the forth.

World Soccer Winning Eleven 8 is available for preorder for US$59.90 only and is expected to ship on 5th of Aug 2004. Don't miss it, we wouldn't want to either.

For those who are new to Winning Eleven, here's a list of in-stock items to get you rolling until Summer:

makin players like zidane or ronaldinho be able to produce the kinds of skills they do on the pitch, ther not quite good enough on pes3 for me

be able to have snow, sleet etc so the pitch can get really churnd up and have players makin errors due to weather, eg defenders slipping on their arses while striker flies through with the ball chips the keeper but the ball lands in a puddle on the line

bit of blood! have players throwing elbows or stampin on heads and when they are treated for the head injuries have bandage on for rest of the game

have a sunday league type of game, shite pitch with rusty goalposts, a few glue bags scattered around (trust me thats wat ther like wher i live  )
some of the opposition supporters with a can of kestrel superstrength in ther greasy mits and alot of c**ts and cheatin b*stard flyin around the speakers

It's unlikely konami will animate players stamping on other players heads and include stuff like blood, unless they have it as an 18 rating ;)

I'm the great fun of konami footbal serials, and i think that in pes4 or we8 players should not be so fast, the game should be litle slower, player movements should be better in defence(when team is defending all players must not stand in front of goalkeeper making opponent team easier shots from distanceand, cowering goalkeeper so he sees the ball at the last moment, they would try offside traps more often) and atack (sometimes when i go left, all players in atack also go left ,so it is hard to provide a god counteratack)

It is obvious that Indirect Free Kicks are missing in WE7/PES3.

i would love to see a grand change in the added time way. its always been the same. cpu gets more added time chance than humans do, and added time is never up when its in the goal area, ball have to be kicked far away for the ref to blow the damn whislte. thats gota be changed, added time must be shown, like how many minutes r added and when its up WHEREVER the damn ball is, added time is up. thx ;)

about showing how many minutes are added you're absolutly right, but about the whistle never blowing when there is an attack that's normal referee don't blow the whistle till the attack ends completly so i dont think they should change it i would like to put those neat spansih digital adboards though :(

I think there should be an official on the touchline with a board stating how many minutes of injury time are going to be played, just to add a touch of realism. This would also end the disputes about excessive length of extra time being played.

well we should atleast have an idea of how many minutes is added. playin blindly not knowin when the refs goin to end it is sort of cheating, most of the team the cpu gets 3 - 4 chances during extra time to score, while i may only get one. and another thing.. i guess there should be an aggressive move or something to add realism too. like a punch or a kick or watever or even an elbow in case i'm pist off :p plus a fake fall to earn a foul would be neat. if the ref is smart enough, u'd end up with a yellow card!

Just an idea i think there should be a database with players who don't currently play for a national side or don't play for a club in the game. So in this database there would be players like Luis fabiano, Diego, Tevez, Cavenvechi, Kaka etc.. so say if you wanted to add new players to a national side but they werent at a club in the game or if you want to transfer a player to a club (Milan) who aint at club (River) but is in the database e.g. Robinho to Barce, you would be able to by using the database. Like also i feel its really anoying that players like Bridge, Beatie, Parker aint in the game because there clubs aint in it but with this database thing there clubs wouldnt need to be in it. Also i wanted to add Pedretti to the french squad but i couldn't obviously because his club aint in the game same with reyes and many more.

Dead right. I have often thought this, as there are hundreds of quality players that dont get in the game because their club is not included, or they are not in the national team.

Another feature i would like to see is to be able to select your national squad from a pool of players. I know you can do this using the register player facility in the editor, but it would be better if a feature was made of it. For example you have to call-up the 23 players you would like to take to the international cup before you start.

And finally how about being able to have a proper subs bench rather than having 12 reserves to choose from. Would force you into decisions like 'do i put a keeper on the bench or not'.

P.S. if you are talking about PES3, then you will find Pedretti already in the French team.

If there is one thing i want improved for pro evo 4, its player behaviour - so for eg. when zidane gets the ball he might try his spin to break a tackle or create space for himself, scholes might try a shot fake and then launch a drive from 30 yards out, Cristiano Ronaldo won't put a cross in untill he's made sure he's beaten the defender with a step-over or feint and Beckham will look to get a cross in without trying to beat the defender... these well known behaviours of star players need to be implemented in the game, as the skills in place such as aggression dont do enough to get the players a character.

Also you occasionally see things like a player putting is hands on his head when he's missed a shot and a keeper shouting to his defence when the opposition has had a near miss. This could be expanded so that captains of teams and star players will be shown trying to fire up there team or barking orders (waving their arms around, clapping their team on or pointing to a player and all round just getting pissed off) More of these animations i think would only add atmosphere to the game and make it appear more passionate and intense

Yeah they always say "playing a captain's role" but all they're doing is having possession not anything actually associated with the captain.

It would be great if your choice of captain made a big difference. The introduction of an influence and/or leadership stat (like CM) would be helpful in choosing a captain. What i would like to see is the captain actively relaying your tactics and instructions to the players during the match, i.e. the better the captain, the better your team will perform (or at least play to your plan). Communication and motivation stats would be good also.
