Yea you're all right guys but these improvements we all want, if not included in PES 4, willl hopefully be added to PES 5, 6, 7 and possibly 8 if footballing perfection hasn't been achieved by then. Here's some more points to add for us all to discuss...
· Consistent refereeing - Sometimes a clean slide challenge can result in a booking, sometimes a sending off, which as we all know is highly frustrating. Failing that, what about on-screen ref and linesmen who run about the pitch?
· Better goalkeepers - The keepers need improving when it comes to saving long shots, defending from high balls, catching, parrying shots and overall decision-making. PES 4 should have a control, which stops the keeper coming out of the box when you don't need him to.
Goalkeepers should be able to release the ball quicker for his team to counter attack and be able to throw OVER arm balls out from the box and commit themselves more often by throwing themselves at the players' feet when one-on-one with a player. “Decision-making” should be an attribute for not only goalkeepers but other players too.
· Start of the match could have a coin toss to decided ends/kick-off just like in I.S.S. on the N64.
· Better atmosphere from the crowd! Balloons and toilet rolls to be thrown onto the pitch; excessive amounts if a derby match. Pitch invasions for the team that wins the league or avoids relegation.
The crowd could reflect the way of the match. For example if the home team were getting ripped apart, some of the fans should leave the stadium. Konami should have less of the giant flags that take up half the stands too and improve the banners. The fans would have replica kits and games such as Arsenal/Chelsea matches would be a sea of red and blue. Portuguese fans could wave their scarves around as they do and crowd chants could be improved upon. The items in the stands could also be dependant on the game. WEFA games when played abroad in Italy, Spain and Japan should include flares and have a more louder and aggressive response from the crowd.
WEFA games should be played in the evening as they are in real life, league games during the day and cup games, depending on which stage of the cup, day or night.
· The commentators could take into account each of the team’s situation can improve the commentary. For example, they can say how the win will put them into the semi-final of the WEFA Cup or put them however many points clear at the top of the table. Furthermore, they can single out players who have been playing well and if one of the top scorers of the campaign scores, how many that takes his total goal tally to and in what position of top scorer he is. PES 4 could have the commentators keeping track of the other games being played at the same time in the same league also saying how those results will affect the teams/league.
At the moment, commentary during League Cup games is good because it keeps track of the aggregate scores and at the end of the match states that that team has made it into the last 4 or final. Same for WEFA games. My point is to have more detailed commentary in general.
· Defences should be tighter and respond better to loose balls. I feel that defences are easy to run around, even on 5 star difficulty. Failing that, more difficulty levels! I feel that being able to run around players is unrealistic because it can be done with ease at times.
PES 4 should copy real-life football and only those players with good dribbling ability such as Ryan Giggs and Damien Duff should be able to beat their man. Players like Zidane would be harder to tackle and because of their skill to retain the ball. Steven Gerrard and Michael Ballack should go in harder than some on the tackle where as players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Van Nistelrooy and Robert Pires should go down from the slightest of touches. Konami could focus on how player build and size affects the way they move and jump. For example, Thierry Henry and Dijbril Cisse are lightning fast and few players can equal let alone outdo their pace. Therefore their speed attribute should be a cut above the rest. The same should apply to Patrick Vieira and Jan Koller as they are both very tall and have a good jump so few should be able to outjump them. Midfield playmakers like Totti, Bergkamp, Figo and Rui Costa have amazing vision and awareness so their passing ability, whether it be short or long range, should be second to none.
Furthermore, almost every player in the game has been blessed with the skill and ability to do multiple stepovers, Zidane 360’s and Okocha flicks. Where’s the player individuality Konami?
· The teamwork of your Master League team could be affected by how much you play each player and which team they play in. For example, if you have a regular partnership up front and then change it, it should have an effect.
Free training should have an option to train your team using in-game training programmes. This could improve defensive/offensive partnerships for when playing against other teams. Only the teamwork attribute of a player is affected depending on how often player is played but I think this could improve or worsen individual player morale and as a result, skill.
Furthermore, their performance on the pitch could suffer as a result of being sidelined. Goal droughts for those players who score heavily could suffer and play inconsistently until a goal is scored etc.
· In the early stages of Master League, you shouldn’t be able to sign players who demand high salaries regardless of how many points you have saved. I found that unrealistic when I signed Juninho Pernambucano, Luis Boa Morte and Jose Antonio Reyes in my first season. I just found that signing 3 good players was unrealistic. Maybe I’m wrong...
· The use of money in the hundreds, thousands and millions in Master League. I.e. Signing Beckham for £25 million with a £60,000 a week rather than signing him for 20,000 points and paying him 2,000 points for his salary. The currency could be dependent on which country the league is in.
· Considering the fact you’re the manager of your team in Master League you should be offered jobs to manage another team, depending on how well or how badly your team is doing. Perhaps you could be offered a position to manage an international side? Konami may have to expand it's current Master League and include international teams however.
· An option to have a wall for your opponent’s free kicks or not. In PES 3, you have a wall for every free kick.
· Teams should play and react according to the match situation. For example, a team losing by a goal with little time to go would go in harder on the tackle and push further up the pitch. If they were in the lead, everyone would be in defence.
· Crosses on PES 3 are slow unless you use triple :circle:. I feel on the next PES, they should try and focus on the overall accuracy of the crosses and should be whipped in at a faster speed regardless of the height of the pass (dependent on players’ attributes).
The ability to curl the ball after striking it. When crossing or shooting, you should be able to bend the ball using another button. I was thinking one of the shoulder buttons such as R2 or L2?
· A more in-depth edit mode enabling you to change the names of stadiums and referees. If Konami aren’t granted the licenses required then when editing kits, there should be an option to have the logos and symbols that real kits have. Symbols and signs that resemble the logos such as the 02 one on the Arsenal kit or Manchester United's Vodafone sign. There could also be a text editor to have on the kits. For example, “Fly Emirates” on the Chelsea shirts, "Northern Rock" on the Newcastle kits and “Reebok” for Liverpool.
· Hopefully, Konami will include 3rd away kits and editable goalkeeper kits. Options to choose how the kit’s worn by the players. For example, Henry wears his socks over his knee, option to have players' shirts tucked in or hanging out, gloves in cold weather etc. More boots like Nike Total 90’s (or if Konami don't get the license, boots that look alike).
· Scenarios like in ISS on the 64. You’re given a scenario where a team is losing by a goal and had a man sent off. Your objective is to win. Those would give the game more lifespan, not that it’s got a big enough one already or anything. Just a thought.
· The inclusion of the FA Cup.
· When you start off League or Master League mode, you should be up against teams who are in the same country and/or division as that team in real life. Hence the cry out by everyone to include The Premiership, La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga. This way, it’s more realistic with teams of equal strength being pitted against one another.
· Sometimes, you gain a free kick for your opponent being ruled offside which is given a couple of metres inside THEIR half. You can’t be offside inside your own half so where the hell is the logic in that?
I have more improvements and points to discuss but do tell me what you reckon guys...
