Konami - DVD Suggestion

Does anyone know whether WE8/PES4 will be on DVD or CD.

If it is going to be on DVD then why does Konami not use the extra disc space more effectivley. I believe PES3 has 5 versions of the game on the disc - 1 for each language (is that correct?). Why not just produce an English language version and use the disc space to give us a vastly bigger game ie more teams, stadiums etc....
Other languages could each have their own version.

Is this a stupid suggestion or do you agree?

I don't think PES3 has 5 versions.
There are the 4 languages on the disk and I don't know about any others.
Most of the space on the DVD is taken up by the different commentaries in the different languages.

They have already said they'll double the number of clubs for PES4. Which is good. How many stadia do we need before we'll think it's enough? Don't they start looking the same after a certain number?

It's a question of money. Making a different game for each country would be a logistic and financial nightmare. EA do it with FIFA (I live in Sweden at the mo and you have Swedish as the default langauge). We'll see!

i guess pitch sizes should matter, plus 3D audience/supporters/people whatever u call em :) realistic chants too. i wish we can c the manager jumping around the sidelines lol :D

Your being a little trivial Zyg. Whether it's 4 or 5 versions you know what i mean - the disc space is, in my opinion, wasted.

Also you can never have too many teams/competitions/stadia. You may not care but others like to get more involved in the overall realism and experience of the game. Pro Evo has the gameplay, now its time to give us a deeper game.

So if it is on DVD does that mean it will support multiple languages or will it just be Japense? Thanks.

No I think it will only be Japanese, although I can be completly wrong. But it has always been a Japanese Game only. So WE8 will be japanese only to I think. But maybe they continue with more then one language since WE7I support multiple languages. And why?? With DVD you have way moreeeee space then CD.
It would be good more languages, no more half japanese half English game in the begining. And no more waiting before a Fernando translates another part of the game.....

yeah I thought it would just be Japense too but if it does go DVD they would have the room to include other languages which is what I was hoping for. I guess we will and see if we get official word from Kondami. Thanks.

A lot of the space is taken up by commentary, does anybody know actually what the capacity of the DVD's they use are?

yeah. I thought you meant PES4, not WE8. It is most probable that it will be just Japanease but as WE7:IJ has other languages I don't really know.

P.S About the DVD size, ashmufc, do you think they use cheap ones or more expensive larger capacity disks?

A standard DVD is 4.7 GB i believe, so there is alot of space to play with. Unfortunately Konami choose to fill most of this space with 4 commentary languages rather than give us a massive game (like FIFA). Don't know about you guys but i turn the commentary off anyway. What a waste.

Well last point and chants might be able to be implemented, while other ones I REALLY think is impossible.

There is ENORMOUS number of 3D polygons they would have to use which PS2 CAN'T handle. Maybe PS3, but I doubt that as well. It is BIG problem you know, to incorporate so many 3D models in a game, imagine approx. 60 000 3D polygons of audience, plus players, plus ball, plus refs, plus flags, plus nets, plus stadium effects etc... and ALL moving at the same time with ONLY 32megs of RAM on 300 Mhz. There would have to be a trade of, and cutting number of polygons on players or so, to have space for audience, which I doubt anyone would agree upon to (trade of). No WAY! 2D audience does fine for me.

Insted of audience, which you mainly see only on replay or so, Konami needs to focus on actual game and "parties involved" :), i.e. improve player animation and settle this FUNNY running and diagonal movement.
Bloody ref will be in the game in WE8/PES4 FINALY, which is good news.

It is not the problem to fill up the DVD, 4.7 GB with information. But it is the matter of what you put in. in FIFA case, only about 500 Mb is ACTUAL game, everything else is soundtrack and other languages as it is in WE/PES case.
To have more clubs, or teams, they need more licenses etc, same for stadia...
And after all, they need to leave something for next year's instalment right? :)

I would love to see actually more weather conditions, more balls, dirty outfits (which are by the way planned for WE8/PES4), coin flip, better freekicks, few more moves, better animation, AI, and things that PS2 can handle easily.

Right, I agree with you GFK, I mean what's the point of having other languages when the game is made for Japanese market only? I don't see the point of WE7I(jap) having German, French, Spanish etc... Are there many Germans, French or SPanish people in Japan. NOPE, I don't think so! And why calling game International when the game is for one market only. Why haven't they published it internationaly, then It would make sense.
WTF is wrong with 'em???
Ignore modchipping and other ways to play imported games, since the same is not legal. It's BS!

Anyone who expects a 3-D crowd from what is fast becoming the dated processing power of the PS2 is crazy and deluded. As Milosh said, a 2-D crowd is fine and does the job. Konami maybe need to look at ways of making the fans look a little less 'cardboard', yet still 2-D. Roll on PS3!

On the subject of disc space, if FIFA can cram all the hundreds of teams and thousands of players it has into 500mb then why can't Konami? Licenses or not, there is no reason why Konami can't give us a huge game full of leagues from around the world. Milosh, you say that they need to leave something to add for the next game in the series - well just do what FIFA has done and simply update the hundreds of teams it has year after year, with new players and kits. Simple.

I just put it down to laziness and complacency on Konami's part that their fans aren't bothered about anything more than the gameplay.

That's true JameZ, I totally agree.
My point about FIFA is that they don't fill up their DVD's with actual game, rather with "useless" stuff usually.

Konami has the licences issue. I can't say that it is a matter of laziness or money, or both. Even without licences, I agree with you that we need more teams. HAving 138 teams sounds good, but soon it will be NOT ENOUGH!
I read that Konami will put new training mode and "soccer" rules guide or something in, so there's one way to "fill it up"!
And I especially agree with you that Konami's formula of improving JUST gameplay will stop working soon. We need something more than that.

Anyway, hopefully they will improve actual player animation, otherwise it looks ridicilous, sometimes.

Yes, dead right. People were saying they were bored of PES3 only 3 or 4 months after it was released, and in my opinion the gameplay in PES3 is the best available in any football game. So that just shows that we need more to keep us occupied in the game, such as real leagues. Lets face it, the classic game that was Sensible World of Soccer would not still be fondly remembered today if it wasn't for the sheer size of the game, and how it was near impossible to complete it.

i dont know if anybody answered this but it is correct that there are 4 or 5 different versions of the game on the dvd.on the pc you can basically copy the english version and fit it onto one cd disc.that way you dont have to wait like a bloody minute for it to 'change commentry language' everytime you play,as the defult one is english. it pisses me off because i only ever use english and having to choose english every time i play is just a waste of time.

Yes thats right, the game is written on the disc 4 times to cater for the 4 commentary languages. Thats why i started this thread because i think its a waste of disc space.
