KONAMI - It's time to nail the coffin shut!

We all know the score, through PES 3-4 we played and began to see evolution, then bham, PES5/6 came to us from football heaven and we were hooked. Whichever you think was better, that wasn't the point - we caned these fkin games to death. We trawled for hours looking at the different hexagons, and then finally we signed our man, we had little credit, but we traded in our current left backs technique, for more pace as we were conceding too many down our wing against pace. We got our man, it jeopardised the season, but we were fully aware that three wins out of the last eight games would see the seasons salaries just about pay off, we could then build for next year.

This is what it was like, so fully engrossed in the gameplay side of things because it was perfect, that the only worries we had to engage where the transfers/negotiations/regulating condition and tinkering with formations. Who have we next - Arsenal - Walcott is electric, we have to cover him and Henry and hope the rest have poor games. All angles were considered when playing these old games, it was football at it's best - ours and KONAMI's finest hour. It was firm but fair, you could attack ,you could defend, countering was electric, but equally holding out for thirty minutes against a rampant opposition also gave you that thrill.

Then next gen (collective sigh)

Roll on 2011 - This is FIFA's plan for the future -

"FIFA 12 introduces the 'Impact Engine' which properly tracks and formulates contact between players, including their hips, knees etc.
The AI will also keep track of areas of the body players have been injured during a match. Players can also become injured off the ball if abused too much, especially late in the game.

FIFA 12 also introduces 'AI Vision Game' (rough translation), which promises to make passing more realistic. If you try to complete a pass to a player that's not within visible range, for example, it's less likely you'll complete the pass. EA hopes this will get rid of "blind passing".
Personality Plus is more developed and should influence AI players' passes this time.

AI is said to be "more human", with each player acting more or less according to his abilities. One example given is when an AI player sees Fabregas coming towards him with the ball, he'll act more carefully.

OPM describes "new presentation" of matches in FIFA 12, which are said to be very much inspired by English football crowds.

The game includes three new arenas, this time with integrated benches along the sidelines and "impressive lighting effects" according to OPM France.
Integration of a new short dribble with the left stick.

The game features a new camera that's noticeably closer to the ground.
There's also a new menu interface that appears to be simpler and more ergonomic than before."

To summarise - it's more bullshit.

People who have followed some of my posts will know my football obsessive month were I basically took PES2011 to where I could take it, before it ultimately became unplayable. Don't get me wrong I've loved it and hated it in equal measure. The Top Player AI through ball cheat however has just worn me down.

Anyways, bought shit loads of consoles with every PES I could get my hands on and all the FIFAs. Finally re-found gaming heaven and am playing PES6 on my PS2 once again.

Yesterday as it was on offer, I bought FIFA09, the much vaunted jewel in the crown of FIFA just to see what the fuss was about.

NOTHING HAS CHANGED IN ALL THE FIFAS. I couldn't really believe it, Fifa 07 plays like 08 plays like 09 plays like 10 plays like 11.

The CPU attacks are all exactly the same, nothing has changed from what I can see, everything from the CPU is defender, to midfield, to attack, go to wing, cross, score header.

SO - it's safe to say FIFA 12 will be EXACTLY the same. Their game engine is just outrageously shit, and nowhere near football. This 'Impact Engine' and 'Vision Game' that EA are spouting will be exactly as effective as the player individuality - ie TOTAL HORSESHIT from marketing experts.

If you also don't already know, to all PES-ites, don't read a single fkin magazine review, these are done by spotty nerds who have just about found out what their dick is used for. EA go to said magazine, brown envelope on table, said magazine gives it 9/10. EA probably say 'never give this game 10/10, because we can't release our 'Impact Engine' and 'Vision Game' shit for next year, think reviewer, think!!"

DO NOT BE SWAYED BY MORE PROPAGANDA shite from EA/Magazines, that Joseph Goebbels would be masturbating over. Play the PES demo, give constructive feedback, play game, give constructive feedback.

So, with nothing to fear from the Lord Vader's lot - IT'S TIME FOR KONAMI TO BRING IT HOME!

I feel this really is the make or break year for Konami, this is the year when credibility can be fully restored after the shit-fests that were almost every PES after PES6.

The FIFA11 forums are awash with disgruntled chappies, who finally are seeing what EA are - just a bunch of money grabbing, lying, cheating tossers who will do anything, including sell the mother and gran to get a sale.

This is the defining year where KONAMI either step up to the plate, regain our total trust and loyalty, or face an unbelievable amount of wrath from its loyal fans.

You see, we kind of expect it from the FIFA franchise, but there's something more humble, something more appreciative and something more grounded about the PES fan. I honestly think we're a breed apart. Look at our editing peeps, the work they do is absolutely fkin incredible, to get something out of any release. We have an appreciation of football, an ability to judge the game for what it is - warts an all, that the blind FIFA faithful will never get. We are the hardcore - we see football on the tele and say we want our game to be like that. We don't say things like 'if you can't deal with pressure then your shit, try playing FIFA this way lmfao, haha lol".

We don't want to simply crack the game and play it in a way the developer wants to like FIFA, we want football back.

KONAMI have a REAL, MASSIVE opportunity on their hands to put FIFA in the coffin and bury them, maybe not for good, but certainly for a while.

I'm willing to hope, to trust, once again, but only for this time round, and give KONAMI the benefit of the doubt. I'm not going to hype anything, I'm not even expecting anything revolutionary, BUT I EXPECT KONAMI to level everything out for PES2012, starting with the atrocious player switching and stupid CPU through balls, that do indeed go through people.

They need to improve dramatically on player responsiveness, but they have to be VERY, careful here. Too much responsiveness and you end up like FIFA with everyone feeling the same. And for me, and the main thing, more individuality on the ball. Berbatov for example, you shouldn't get the ball off him, languid, technically perfect - but he shouldn't raise a leg in terms of teamwork. You challenge Rooney, and he knocks you on his arse with his stocky frame. When Ronaldo gets the ball, you back off, you go towards him at your peril as he skins you. Andy Carroll, target man all day, if you want to ping balls up to him as Liverpool, you should be able to do it all day and night, winning 8/10 headers.

And the other thing, the constant overpowering of the English Premier League in terms of its player stats, honestly some games Emile Heskey plays like a hybrid of Pele and Puskas with the heading ability of Duncan Ferguson and the vision of Rooney. He's useless, so give him useless stats. Flip side is all the other European teams (outside of the big ones like Milan, Barce etc) have relatively poor stats, make the English stats more physical driven and the continentals more technical driven. Things like this....

So it's decision time for KONAMI, do they ultimately listen to the customer, read all this feedback and regain the trust of us loyal fans, or do they shaft us ala EA. I fear if it's the latter, it could really break KONAMI, and I hope if it's the former, we'll flock like loyal disciples once again, and play the shit out of PES2012, like the glory days when PES ruled the waves!

When I saw the title, I honestly thought this was a raging thread at Konami to give up. Glad I was wrong, you've put a lot of effort into this!

I totally agree man.

The thing is that even though pes 11 is a good game overall, actually compared to pes 5 and 6, it's on their level FINALLY after some serious downfalls.
But anyway, since pes 11 was a HUGE step to make the game leap forward and reach pes 5's level, I think that if Konami makes the same effort, they can come up with something significantly better than both pes 11 and 5.

First and foremost.
MARKET THE GAME BETTER so that you'll make more money. ;) Fifa doesn't deserve the amount of fans it has atm because it isn't even trying to improve. Fifa 09 was the last great fifa game where it was better than 08, but 10 and 11 are the same. Actually they worsened the worst stuff found on fifa 10 in 11 which made it totally unplayable for me.

As for konami.
They need to make the game FEEL LIKE A PS3/360 game.
So in short:
Animations, feeling restrictive and general movement of players
Physics
Certain player individuality needs improving (even though pes 11 did a good job here, but the more, the better ;) )
Cursor switching is one of the biggest issues
DEFENDERS BACKING OUT needs sorting

If all these improve, THEN THE GAME WILL GET THE JUMP FROM PS2 TO PS3/360 quality and will in my opinion bury Fifa.
Those are just a few points that are most noticeable and will attract more football fans.

I have been enjoying your posts Techboy - no matter how long they are. I do have some great expectation of PES 12 making a the jump closer to what everyone wants (except with online play which I have to give up on).

I do have to give EA their props for NHL 11. Incredible AI and realism.
