Konami's Big Scam!!!

Well I believe that Winning Eleven 9 has no major updates to WE8. Im sure we all agree to that. Therefor it should have been WE 8.5. I mean come on, its still the same engine, same celebrations, same silly mistakes with refreeing. I mean for God's sakes when I have a freekin advantage let me get a goal when I'm all alone infront of the keeper getting ready to abuse him :) Still the same garbage difficulty settings: the more the difficulty setting, the slower your players and the more CPU cheats. What the hell is that? is this the only way to make it difficult?

I am soooo frustrated with Konami thay should havechanged the game's engine at least. Minimum effort from the game makers and producers. WE9 is the best in the series but in an ironic absued twisted way it is still the worst.

Is this the beginning of the end? Will the Winning Eleven series start losing it all over again to the FIFA series??

What do you think? Am I going mad?

How long have you been playing Winning Eleven series? Every Winning Eleven is only minor updates, this is nothing new. In fact, I would say WE9 is one of the biggest evolutions the series has ever had. The first three PS2 Winning Elevens were almost identical, this is a bigger step forward, and a refinement, and the best WE game to date IMO.

Every game Co. does it, they wouldn't make any money from sequals otherwise.

Wait for the next gen versions, they should be good. ;)

don't worry, the next step is coming soon, they've reached their potential with the current console generation, but just you wait until we get PES6 WE10 on the PS3, that will be something.

Not mad, not really- but as they fit in several versions of the same game accross several formats it's not really surprising. imo all games companies do it, it's just the way it goes. if you don't like it don't buy it is the best advice i can give you. personally, i like the look of that kit and boot editor meeself.

In terms of gameplay tweaks I am more than impressed by this year's version: tons and tons of subtle tweaks and gameplay shifts to make it IMHO a lot more fun than WE8 (and I loved WE8 ;)

The one thing I am disappointed in is options, in terms of ML improvements or tournament play and whatnot. I was really hoping they'd add the option to do multiplayer masterleagues, or at least include player drafting and stat gaining in multiplayer league/tourney modes...

When reading a it about WE9 and PES5 they said they had a "new and improved master league system."

So what's so improved about it?

I think PES4 improved alot for PES3 but then again PES1 was better than PES2 and 3 and possible PES4, if they re-released PES1 with updated team's and transfers i'd buy it. The main reason behind the lack of improvement maybe because there already making PES6/WE10 for the next gen which will be better than any game EVER.

The problem with the new Pros is that, unlike an action game or an RPG, you cannot make a huge amount of change as the basic concept of the game will always remain the same - playing football. If you want "new revolutionary systems" and crap like that i would go and buy Fifa because thats all the new Fifas ever seem to do, no changes in gameplay or anything just a new "thing" that actually makes very little difference to the game, ie the first touch system, that stuff was already in Pro4 (mabye not to the same extent) but Konami didnt make a big deal out of it they just thought that a football game should have that stuff anyway and put it in there.

Seriously speaking how much do you appreciate the game thats the issue?? How much details do you notice(from pass till now)?? & most of all what do you look for in a soccer game. If you're looking for a soccer game where you follow some stupid steps & you can score then play FIFA...(no offence to FIFA players juz my thoughts) WE is something you need to use your brain to play. The thing is many pple complain abt the game play is slow!! First what camera angle do you play?? try normal(close up) & not wide(far) then you'll know then you see whether if its fast...
I find the engine is good enough for now & its the max PS2 can offer so dun expect much... when WE10 comes out it will be a dual release on both PS3 & PS2 so dun expect too much also...cos it will still base on a PS2 engine.

I agree Konami didn't update much on the team info... that also causes it to loose some sale to piracy... heh... all the patch issue!! But overall do you notice that all the soccer are begining to copy WE.... FIFA latest include teamwork!! added run/dash(since I think FIFA 1997 if I'm not wrong where all the while WE has it) control.... thru ball its becoming like WE. Virtual Striker 4 2005 something like that also added run/dash control..., tactics & so on... If Konami's soccer gameplay is no good!! then why are all the soccer game begining to feel the same... like WE

How many people have actually played on the new game? I haven't and as everyone else has said, you can't blame them for not improving anything because they can't! They have probably maxed out the graphics they can use on it. But as Stevie and everyone else says, I can't wait till PES6 on PS3. I think it will be like watchinb television!

Pro Evolution Soccer/Winning Eleven sell by the bcket load and makes alot of money for Konami, so why change the formula too much and potentially lose sales? People love the gameplay of PES/WE and Konami know it, hence you only see minor refinements every year. Its the same with FIFA. They know their audience is a shallow bunch of saps, who are only interested in graphics, licensing and pressing one button to skin a whole team and score, ie no challenge. Thats why FIFA never really changes drastically.

Konami's Big Scam

I agree with Greyfoxmgs.. I remember seabass Takatsuka who's the producer saying in an exclusive interview in a ps2 magazine even before the release of PES4! That they still have only achieved 70% of what they expect a great football game to be!
The problem isn't with Konami and they're lack of ideas its with the PS2 and what it can handle.
I also agree with some of the other comments mentioned. PES hasn't got exceptional commentary and i can go back to a time when.. "the wind is shooting through the stadium.." or "he must have lead in his boots today!"
but the commentary has improved slightly. It hasn't got the greatest graphics but hey they arent shoddy.
The bottom line is if Konami changed too much in the PES game to sacrifice for other extra's they could ruin the ingredient and bedrock thats been a successfull and most enjoyable series.
I myself haven't seen or played WE9 or PES5 but when i do shall make my judgement then. I can say though that i have played most of the PES series and in every case i have never been disappointed with the follow up. So there isn't a scam going on with Konami and as for the cpu cheating by making your players slower well just knock the difficulty setting down to 1* and completely pan the computer 16-0 or something but hey likes already been said that can be achieved by swapping PES for FIFA.

ha... thats a good one RedDevil dropping it to 1* think that should help in scoring....& the cpu cheating part

Alot of you guys are taking the thread the wrong way, spawn113 had a few good points like the refreeing, master league format and cpu cheating.

It seems in we 9 refreeing is worst than we8 by far, i.e. when u clip a player almost certain a foul, i feel like im playing basketball (womens game). u cant defend cos of it , the refreeing effects alot of the game. ( thats my major problem the rest are little things ). play on rule is pointless, u never really get play on when u have advantage, iused it to cheat against my mates when we had a little tournement so i would it back when they was almost clear. ( this is a frustrating problem so thats why i made a big issue of it )

master league format - i dont mind the current format , but konami made a mistake is prodouct description thats what pl are complaining about. but i see it being a problem.

CPU cheating: its worst than its ever been its a step back pes 4 wasnt as bad it was quite acceptable when it cheated i understand the limitations make it harder to have better ai but too cheat so blatantly is a piss take. I play alot of ml but when the cpu cheats its irrotates me. they should of only added a few improvemenst to the ai of pes 4 like movement of cpu and tactical chnages and a few others. but they have messed it up.

OK thats my bitch over only 2 problems with we 9 refree (alway have a problem with him in real life, save me the hassle in a game ) and cpu cheating. i wouldnt mind if the only just fixed the refree and thats it in pes 5 because it will truly make it the best version of the series. I understand the cpu part is difficult to change.

these 2 problems damage the game slightly, Overall we 9 is the best version yet hands down but its frustrating to see that little probelms can make the experience of we / pes dissappointing. Even thoug the overall package is a great improvement with the current ps2. thats why i think pl are disappointed and dont tell me to play fifia ill tell u where to stick it. Dont mention f*fa in the same line as w e / pro evo.

i agree with you grayfowmgs
as quoted from a fifa 06 review in PSOM 'its immediatly clear a painstaking attempt has been made to emulate what konamis series so brilliant, right down to sharing the same controls for certain tricks and and even offering pro evos button layout for an alternative.'

they even changed there freekick method to pro evos and added our now automatic sidestep.
