Laser issue?

I have tried both the Team PES-X patch and the Fishcake 1.0 patch, but when I put the DVD in the PS2, absolutely nothing happens.

I have followed the instructions precisely, so I don't think I have made any mistakes. I burnt the DVDs at speed 2x.

Could it be the laser in my PS2? I have a SCPH-30004. Have had a few problems before when playing DVD films.
Should I try to clean it as described in this post: http://forum.pesinsight.com/showthread.php?t=26653&highlight=clean+laser ?

I'm using a Magic 3.1 if I remember correctly.

By the way, I just found this info on the site of those who modded my PS2:

It was in Norwegian, so I took the liberty of translating it.

"We can no longer guarantee good results for the models mentioned below. They are simply too old, so we won't be modding them anymore. They will in many cases work well with CD-R based backups and imported discs, but most of todays games are on DVD, so your backups of these on DVD-R will not always work satisfactory.

SCPH-30004
SCPH-35004
SCPH-30004 R

Below are the other models. These are less than 2,5 years old. They are guaranteed to work with both CD-R and DVD-R/DVD+R and also imported discs.

SCPH-39004
SCPH-50004
SCPH-70004 (this is the new small PStwo)"

Ouch! Oh well, better save some money for Playstation 3.

If other games work fine then it's unlikely to be your laser. Try making a backup of your original PES5 disk and see if that works.

A black screen is very often due to an error in the patching process, even if it's not your fault. I keep getting a black screen when trying different techniques to try to make a cd-rip of the original game (apparently it's not possible to make a cd-rip of the original game so you have to patch it first).

To make a backup of my original I just extract the files to a folder, make an ISO of it and then burn, correct? Should the iso have a particular name?

PES5.iso would do nicely.

Just use DVD Decrypter to Rip (Mode > ISO > Read) and write back to DVD-R (Mode > ISO > Write).
