In view of the fact that WE8 will be out in perhaps about 6 months from now, I have released another 20 suggestions today to Joanne-Customer Service, Konami. To share with you guys, this is what I have written.

1. First Leg Score indicated during commencement of the 2nd Leg match.

2. Add more brutality to the game with dramatic injuries such as boot hitting the face/head/chest. Blood on player’s face or head. Keeper should be proned to such injuries. More heads collision when competing for high balls. Sound of clashing should be enhanced.

3. For serious injury, player should remain on the ground for a longer period, at times motionless until the ball goes out of play. Also allow player to limp on the pitch if he cannot carry on playing.

4. Enhance the Option file- besides badges and players’ names, enable edited kits and faces to be transferred to the next edition. It is really time consuming to rework all the names and kits each time when there is a new edition.

5. Besides Classic teams, allow us to purchase all the World Cup Winner Teams since its inauguration.

6. More dynamic celebration such as player jumping across the advertisement boards to salute the fans or doing his own individual gig.

7. On exceptional dry pitches, leave behind a trail of dust as the ball is booted away. On exceptional wet pitches, leave behind a trail of marks on places which has damaged due to heavy sliding activites. Muddy up the shorts and jerseys. Player’s face should be stained with specks of mud as a result of some steep sliding actions.

8. Create a huge reservoir of archived information in the Team Info. It should include a Goal Statistic Record broken down into goals scored or conceded as follows:-

a) Headers
b) Volleys
c) Corners
d) Dribbling
e) Own goal
f) Shot conceded/scored outside the penalty area
g) Shot conceded/scored within the penalty area
h) Penalty
i) Direct Free kick
j) Indirect Free kick
k) Goalkeeping error

9. Better Commentary .The commentator should be endowed with more artificial intelligence and numeracy . More information should be included in the Team management/Info to provide the necessary resources for the commentary. The commentator’s voice must be passionate, vibrant and exciting. Have a panel of commentators for variety. The commentary should be centered on both the competing teams’ info and inter alia should include (a to z):-

a. Reminding us of the first leg result if we are playing the second leg.
b. Name of the ref and captain.
c. Players to watch out for- those with high performance ratio (see below)
d. Player that should avoid getting a second yellow card and missing the next game.
e. Current top scorer of both teams.
f. Player nursing an injury but is on the starting 11 line up.
g. Attacking/ Defensive Records of both teams
h. Record of consecutive wins or losses.
i. Players having the most yellow/red cards (analysis on both teams)
j. Player making his debut
k. Player back from injury/suspension
l. Based on the real time stat, comment which player is having a good game.
m. Mention the name of the player who has caused an own goal
n. Give a brief description of the weather
o. Mention the crowd size and the name of the stadium
p. How many goals we need to score inorder to move on to the next stage.
q. The cruncher-reminding us that this is the game which will decide the championship or enable us to proceed to the next stage of the tournament.
r. Reminding us that this is the game we must not lose so as to avoid relegation or exit from the tournament.
s. Give a brief overview of the formation, attack or defence oriented.
t. Mention in passing the name of the player who has missed a recent penalty.
u. While the game is in progress, comment on the team performance based on the real time stats.
v. Comment on the strength/weakness of the teams based on the goal statistic
Eg.strong or weak in aerial battle.
w. Home/Away record with the opponent.
x. Position of the teams in the Master League
y. Star striker or striker valued at 600 points and above currently experiencing a goal drought. How many matches of barren run.
z. Name of the former player competing against his previous team.
The above list is not exhaustive. It is just some ideas which can be found in the game
where the commentator can make use of for his commentary.

10. Team Information should also have a record for each player former or present:-
a. No of first team appearance
b. No of times being played as a substitute
c. Performance ratio-No of points accumulated based on the rating at the end of each match divided by the number of appearances(inc. as a sub)

It is imperative that the correct rating should be given to the player at the end of
the match. Noted the rating currently given by the system can be highly
controversial. I once had a defender who did not make any mistake whatsoever
securing a meager rating of 5 where another defender who seemed intoxicated and
making all kinds of silly mistakes you can find in the game securing a rating of 7.

11. During the match, players from each team having acquired the highest performance ratio based on all previous matches should have their names displayed on a Banner.

12.Golden Boot award to the top scorer of any competition. The winners should be
archived in the respective team info for the commentator to comment on .

13.Indirect Free Kick should be included to make the game more complete.
Compared with the Direct Free Kick, the indirect free kick is more difficult to
perform as another player has to touch it before we can aim for the goal.
An indirect free kick should be awarded to the opposing team if a player, in the
opinion of the referee, commits any of the following offences: (a)
dangerous play, (b) impedes the progress of an opponent, or (c) prevents
the goalkeeper from releasing the ball from his hands.
An indirect kick will also be awarded if the goalkeeper: (a) takes more
than four steps while controlling the ball with his hands, before
releasing it, (b) touches the ball again with his hands after it has been
released from his possession and has not touched any player, (c) touches
the ball with his hands after it has been deliberately kicked to him by a
team-mate, (d) touches the ball with his hands after receiving it directly
from a throw-in taken by a teammate, or (e) wastes time.
Ref should beckon for an indirect free kick.

14.Slow down the speed of the game. Winning 7 International ‘s pace is a bit too fast and as a result, players tend to skate which makes the game looks somewhat unrealistic.
15.The strength of the pass should be correlated with the force we apply on the directional button. The direction of the pass should be correlated with the depressed directional key and where the player is facing. This unfortunately was found wanting in WE7 International. Just a little bit more strength to X button of WE7 would have been perfect.
16.Pre-qualifying rounds should be included in any International competition. Currently the International competition is too short Add more teams to make this a reality

17.During any substitution, the player should be brought to the halfway line with an
official holding an electronic board displaying the number of the player being
substituted on each hand. Applause should be heard for any player being
substituted who has secured a rating score of 8 and above .Boos should be heard
for any star player that has a rating score of 5 and below.

18.Some changes should be made to the Master League. Instead of having the top two teams fighting it out through the Play Off, it would better if the top team of Division Two be given automatic promotion. Teams occupying the 2nd and 3 rd spot of Div 2 should go for the Play Off with the last two teams from Division 1. During the play off, the team topping the group will play in Division 1.

19.Correct hand signals. Whether it is a cut scene or better still if the ref in on the pitch, the referee should be seen giving the correct hand signals for direct free kicks/indirect free kicks etc.

20.A more dynamic Customer Service department who really lives us to its name by acting as center where buyers’ view are exchanged with the developers. We are extremely disappointed as mails are never acknowledged and we tend to wonder whether mails are ever read or treated as trash for recycling. As it is , the situation looks so monologue, certainly it is not conducive to the game’s development , what we want to see an approachable Customer Service Dept where more dialogue can be exchanged. It would be instrumental if the contact number of the person in charge of suggestions/complaints (email addresses, tel phone numbers) are displayed under the game credits commencing with Winning Eleven 8.

Whats the point? We have had like a million 'letter to Konami threads' As you saw from the pes4 screen-shots they will have already decided on what is in the game, And WE8 is out earlier than pe4 so they will have already decided what the game is like.

Hmmm, I have but a small criticism, and point for all people who intend to suggest ideas to Konami.

Please keep in mind FIFA's 'Fair Play' ideology, and the general idea of good sportsmanship. So often I have read suggestions (particularly for the impending Football Manager from SIgames) like player fights/scuffs, booing, anti-advertisin and such. Remember, for Konami to secure licenses, they have to strictly adhere to the licencee's parameteres/rules, similar in a way to how Polyphony Digital cannot have damage in GT (because car manufacturers don't want their $$$ cars seen all smashed up).

I don't to hear booing in PES, as 'realistic' as that may be. I certaintly don't want blood in it. Indirect free kicks, I've thought loing and hard about how to implement this (I'm a class 2 referee, so I criticise almost every refereee decision int every soccer game known to man, much to the annoyance of my mates :)), well, we all know how darn infuriating the handball decision is now, what with it only ever occuring to attackers in attacking positions, well, imagine how frustrating it would be for you to get penalised for your GK not releasing the ball within 6sec, or getting penalised because your recently nutmegged defender obstructs the striker? Man, I can see control pads getting thrown through TV screens.

No, until we have a better input device (read full body suits to control players :p), there is no way handballs or indirect FK should be included in soccer games like PES. Atleast, not in the next generation of them anyway...

/end rant

All a bit confusing for me, i know konami look at sites like these but they put what they want it so even if they see lots of ideas they will still prefer theres its just human nature to like your ideas the most.

giggsy, fifa loads longer on the ps2 from my experiences. maybe cos you play on the xbox its faster, with the more poweful machine..

perhaps konami could design some new more realistic stadium turf; most of the ones that are mown in a circular pattern look absolutely shocking, and a few are far to bright and green to look real (for example the amsterdam arena)

You have a valid point in not wanting to see fighting in a Soccer game. I agree with you. It is senseless. Even in a real football game, I really hated it what more in a computer game. As for handballs, since it is not possible for us to control our players' hands, it is best that it is restricted to situation like when our keeper is beaten and we have to dive to parry the ball .I disagree with you however that blood should not be introduced into the game. Soccer is an extremely physical sport and injury to the head or face is not uncommon. I can understand if it is Sega Soccer Slam or Sensible Soccer but both of us know that Konami has been trying to portray WE/PES like in real life.It will make the game even more realistic if this element is introduced. I see no harm in introducing jeers and boos as it creates a familiar ambience, ubiquitous in any game. Besides this, I also hope to see similar team players criticising the delinquent partyfor a boo boo whenever a golden opportunity was not capitalised. Eg a selfish striker shooting for goal when he should pass it.
Lastly, indirect free kicks so be introduced as it is not too hard to implement. However it should be done carefully to avoid similar issues like in handballs. Besides making the game complete, it will provide us with a fresh challenge.

I don't think fighting is what was meant. I think aggression is the word were looking for. Like when a player is gonna get a red/yellow card and the rest of the team jostle the ref about a bit and complain. Injuries should be more graphic (realistic) and players should lie down on the pitch if they are injured badly. Blood is going a bit far though.

Seriously, I would not like to see blood in every game otherwise PES/WE will be given a M rating. It should happen in only certain situations like in real life perhaps a cut near the eyebrows. Not all head injuries or facial injury should involve blood, at times to show a swell will be better.

"Lastly, indirect free kicks so be introduced as it is not too hard to implement." Can you enlighten me as to how you would implement these then? I see only see another pain in the bum for konami and gamers alike. The handball decisions in PES3 are evidence of that.

As for boos and jeers, I agree, if they are used in a typical, 'nice' way, ie Henry stuffs up at Old Trafford, the United faithful would give him a earful. Or in master league, if a player swaps between teams in the same division, it would be cool for the crowd to boo and jeer him, within reason of course. And after a bad foul, perhaps a groan and then tremendous noise/jeers/boos towards the perptrator. As it is now, the ambient sounds in PES3 are attrocious, nowhere near loud enough or 'real' enough through stereo speakers.

But it all needs to be done within reason. No-one wants to ever see scenes that Arsenal and ManU put on in the doohickey-cup (Charity Shield??) at the start of the season, they were an absoloute disgrace.

As for blood, I'm sticking by my guns. If you want blood for 'realism' sakes, then would you object to a button for grabbing your opponents shirt? Or a dive button (as made popular by other football game franchises)? These are both (unfortunately) realistic actions that occur in every game IRL (see Henry's simulation attempt in the recent ArsenalvManU game, friggin' baldy headed goof, he should have been given a yellow card and a stern talking to for that crap), but that doesn't mean I want it converted into PES.

Anywa, I'm sure that whatever Konami DO put in and implement, it will be awesome! I have $100 set aside to buy PES4 already :)

Indirect Free kicks can be implemented in a number of ways. For eg.1. press the square button where the kicker will proceed to kick the ball but by pressing the x button it will perform a feint and by pressing the square button again, the second player will instead kick the ball. 2. press the square button where the kicker will proceed to kick the ball but by pressing the circle button, it will besides performing a feint touches the ball and by pressing the square button again, the second player will kick the ball. Guessing who is actually taking the shot will create some kind of suspense. Naturally, you can also perform passes for another player to score using the x, triangle and circle button when performing the indirect free kick.
How is it going to be awarded? Here are some suggestions:-1.Obstruction is already in the game except that the ref should signal for an indirect free kick instead of a direct free kick. 2. Time wasting by the keeper is currently prevented by the system, the ball will be booted upfield if no instruction is received within a specified period of time. Remove this instruction and allow us with full control of the keeper, if we deliberately delay the game, the ref should award an indirect freekick. 3. By restricting the movement of the keeper to 4 steps will add another challenge to the game. Press L1 for each step. Over the limit, an indirect freekick will be awarded. 4. Dangerous play- when a player raised his foot too high hitting the player on the face or missing him, the ref should award an indirect free kick.

The blood and the deliberate dive and shirt pulling are two separate issues. Carefully implemented, blood will add realism to the game as that is the hard reality in any physical contact sport.Perhaps you should take a look at Fight Night 2004.Like I have said earlier, not all injuries should involve "Blood". It depends on the seriousness of the injury and the location.Sensitive areas like the eyes and nose should involve blood.Anyway to answer your question, I personally feel that deliberate dive button should not be in the game. It tantamounts to cheating.I for one will not get any kick for a deliberate dive and the ref awards in my favour a penalty or a free kick.Hence I would not like to see my opponent doing that either. However I am not sure about shirt pulling. It can make the game more realistic but unfortunately the smooth flow of the game can be impeded. But if it is implemented in restricted situations, Eg. when the opposing striker has beaten my last defender and my only hope is to take him down by either holding him back by his shirt or through an aggressive sliding tackle, it will add further realism to the game. The probability of successfully performing this stunt should be equivalent to the probability of performing a successful aggressive sliding tackle. Hence it will not create further hindrance to the smooth gameplay. Shirt pulling should not be implemented in other areas,eg. it is frivolous to perform shirt pulling to prevent your opponent’s movement especially in the Penalty Area( Remembering Hierro in the recent world cup) as it will affect the gameplay like in handball.

These area all valid points - I think that if Konami have people writing in telling them what they would like to see, Konami could rectify previous mistakes. Good work!
