any tips? i can't quite seem to get it right.

i can easily cross the ball from touchline to touchline, especially across the backline to switch play... but beyond that i can't get it right.

like playing the ball to a striker to hold, or trying to diagonally cross in attack.

i can't seem to get either distance or placement right.

any help is appreciated.

I suggest using L1 and Triangle (Y button). This is a long pass through ball and is extremely effective if you have very fast strikers/forwards.

I use it in midfield, either on each wing (diagonal cross into the path of my striker), or when I am counter attacking the opposition from central midfield.

Try it in a game, it should go quite close to your striker however it depends on the opposition defence if they are fast enough or closer to the ball than your striker. If you have two strikers running forward and the furthest one is free, press L1 but hold triangle for longer.

Hope this helps.

yes, thanks... i knew about the lofted through ball, which does work well...

but i am more concerned with using the long kick... it seems harder to master than it should be. its not very accurate, so i'm looking for any tips or rules of thumb that people have found that work.

Again, Go to practice mode. It makes a whole lot of difference. Just keep doing long passes all over the field then when your ready go play a match and put everything you done in training into a match. Hope this helped!.
