Long Term PES Problems

Ali

It is happening again
I thought I'd compile a list of problems that have been in PES games for a long time. In some cases, the problems go back to PS1 days. Would like to see if anyone agrees/disagrees or would like to add. Some problems have been overdiscussed so I won't talk about them much.

Licenses/Fake Player Names- The licenses thing is obvious. But with the fake player names, they can at least make them similar can't they?? For example, instead of Dotan (Donovan) they could have Danavon. Also the names of some of the fake teams and players (the ones in D2 and PES League for example) are daft and often unpronouncable. Why not just chose names like Suarez, Pascal, Rogers? Instead of ones that seem to be a random collection of consonants and vowels.

Edit Mode- More kit options, better hairstyles etc. 2nd goalkeeper kits... where did they go? 3rd kits too. I don't like it when I have to have the home team use their away kit. Also you should be able to mix and match shorts/shirts in the kit selection again.

Master League- More divisions. Calendar should be split into days, not weeks. International breaks should consist of a full week. When you have the league, cup and european games, you never seem to have a week off, which is not the case in real life. Would be nice to see the international squads too.
The development is off too. I can accept players have different development, but how many players in real life actually start getting worse at the age of 23/24 (apart from Rooney)?
Should bring back the ability to part exchange players.
Players shouldn't become unhappy at being rested for 1 match.
Better youth team, ie actual young players (made up like Fifa does) rather than recycled oldies.
New default players. I'm bored of the likes of Castillo, Huylens, Burchet et al. I think we need some new blood. Whenever one of them gets old, they just replace him with a younger version. For example.. Eddingson became Ruskin, Djukic became Jaric, Harty became Duffy etc etc

Music- Now I like quite a bit of the music. But they need to stick in a more neutral territory. This means no emo. Emo or any kind of heavy music is just too extreme for a football game. I deleted one of the songs this year... Coldrain or something... with the awful shouty bit at the beginning.

Goalkeepers- Obvious.

Bouncy shins- Another long term problem is when a defender would just let the ball bounce off his shins, often to go out of play. I think this has been happening since at least PS2 days.

Finishing/Placed shots- Finishing has always been hit and miss in PES, they could make it much better. Placed shots don't always work either. You could tell it to place the shot, but sometimes they'll blast it anyway. To this I'll add the "Hey! Don't touch me!" rule. If a defending player is anywhere near the back of the attacking player, shot will be scuffed, often very high, very wide, and not very handsome.

Player Attributes/Appearances- Some players are obviously overrated. Some are underrated. More effort needs to be put in to make sure players are rated fairly. Some players, like Muamba for Bolton, don't have great passing or shooting in real life, but are good players nontheless. I think more attributes could be added. Also, more effort should go into the appearance of players. I'm not saying a real face for everyone, but at least make the hair the right colour, make his favourite foot correct. Same goes with unlicensed team kits. Theyre rubbish.

Player Arrows- They're too random. Also they should be taken out of online mode. Fed up of having players on a purple arrow when I'm using a smaller team against Madrid etc.

The biggy... AI Cheating- I'm not gonna say too much about AI cheating, it's been covered enough. What I will talk about is a different type of AI cheating.... against human controlled players (bear with me). Too often I feel that my fate has already been decided. Going back to ISS Pro days, I would play against my brother. Too often I would go a goal up after pressurising for aaages, for him to score 20 seconds straight after with his first shot. You can tell it's not gonna be your day.
I played a guy online t'other day. He was beating me 1-0, after a lot of trying I brought it back to 1-1 for him to score straight after. I've seen it all before on this game, it's unstoppable. Some might thing I'm making mountains out of molehills, but as hinted, I've played PES since PS1 so I know it when I see it.
Other times online, I've been playing against Real Madrid, battered them all game, but it won't let me score. Opponent gets one shot... wins. I don't actually think I have deserved to lose online yet, but I have.

There's probably more, but can't think of them off the top of my head.

I know it's a long read. But it would be appreciated if I could get some responses.

Thanks

I'm glad someones finally mentioned AI cheting against human players. Most people who talk about it talk as though it only happens against CPU. Two examples one where I won one where I lost in MLO.
Lost 3-2. At 2-2 I missed two open goals, both over the bar with minimal power and "Place Shot" and then the winning goal (in injury time), the ball simply changed direction which this awful camera angle allows because it's hard to tell (but I have checked on replays in offline games and the ball certainly changes direction)
Won 3-0. The player I beat was much better than me and should have been hammering when I scored a very contrived goal. After that I realised I couldn't lose so tried to do stuff I shouldn't be able to. The last goal being a chip by Gutierrez from a tight angle when the goalkeeper was stood on the line...and I didn't press chip.

I'll explain the camera problem with an example. A game I lost 1-0 v CPU. I put a cross in.
Defender was stood paralled to the back post.
Defender chested the ball STRAIGHT to the centre of the goal.
Half way the ball changes direction to hit the post.
With a good camera angle this would have been too obvious.

The Bouncy Shins are annoying too. The ball physics are way off and have been for a long time. Deflections just seem to be an extension of the scripting rather a deflection (both direction and speed). I'd say the same about shooting now as well.

Another one you didn't mention is your team mate AI. Even when Pro Evo was brilliant this was poor. As many faults as Fifas got, it's team mate AI's good, the first thing I noticed after I finished my 8 year hiatus 2 years ago. I mention Fifa only because it proves it is possible to have descent AI.

Another long term problem is tackling. You can't stick a foot in. They've always claimed X does this, and now the left analogue stick, but usually it simply doesn't. If I try and tackle at the wrong time he should still try the tackle even if he fails, rather than just have no animation.

Another problem is futile animations. Not a problem but very annoying. I saw my player run along the day and point for another one of my players to go somewhere. Two problems with this. One is my player didn;t then run there. The other is it would have been an awful for him to go anyway. The referees signals are useless too, they usually point towards the goal for corners.

yes but now this is where all your years of playing pro evo lets u down badly!!
if you knew how this game should be played and can be played ( as many others dont, so read up) you know there is a way around this,

I.E/ the manual pass!!
which in pes 2011 is terrible choice to be moved to the left analog stick . . . .

if a defender is pressuring you, from behind.. . . you can easily place, roll or even lift the ball into the net, at any angle, at any pace, and any height you like,
the joys of the manual is no metter whats is happeneing around you, the ball can be played anywhere you want,

now people use this as only a passing method, push dwn RIGHT stick ( on all previous pes,pes6 best 360 passing, not the new one) an judge your power,

but now i have been using it since pes6, for my shooting, i can place it, anywhere i like, with ease, one on one = megs on keeper, lob from 35-40 yards, free kick in centre circle = goal, you people really dnt knw what your missing,

but the best part of this, which makes me feel real smart, is that konami dont even know this is possible to actually shoot, let me explain

i make the moves an build up nice play on the attack, i do a one two as a decoy
an run past last defender, now as my player made the fake run, he is now offside,
and i am one on one with the keeper, i use manual pas, to shoot, the ball goes no where near my other( offside) player, yet the ball ends up in the net, but play is stopped, for offside. . . . how can they not realsie this!! konami are LAZY!!

one more thing, i think its pathetic that now on PES2011, which PES6 DID NOT DO!!
is the keepers on PES2011 have to stay behind the area line, when traveling witht the ball , that is pathetic am sorry, the keeper jumps out the area an glitches his way back in ,like there is a wall there, the keeper cant take the ball across the by line unlike PES6, i mean cmon , PES6 . . . . Really?

i swear am not buying the next one unless, these threads get read!!

I don't have a problem with the tackling, or the animations. Yes the animations aren't fantastic... but they're not game-breakingly bad.

Not really sure about the camera angle thing... that's surely more of a recent problem.

Mr Bones - using manual passing to finish? Hmmm, interesting. I find it slightly offensive that you suggest that I dont know how to play this game though. I'm sure I'd give you a decent game online :D How do you do a manual lob? I'm guessing its L2 + O in this version?

One thing I did forget to mention in my first post:

Offsides- Now, I'm not talking about any misinterpretations of the offside rule, but I bring this up for a couple of reasons.
The first being that attackers stray offside to easily, and make little effort to get back onside, they only ever seem to do a stupid sideways jig.
The other being that it is waaaaaaay to accurate. If your nose is past the last defender - offside! I have a solution, that instead of it just being a thin line, it should be a bar that covers the lenth/width of the defender (depending on which way he is facing). This will lead to much fairer decisions.

I'm on ps3. Don't play PES 6 anymore.

I'd like to add to my offside thing. Each player could have an offside bar (ie a thick line) type thing.... red for defender, blue for attacker. If the bars are in contact, 80% of decisions should go in favour of attacker. If theyre not, should go in favour of defender, with the chance of it being given increasing with distance.
