hi guys,
just wondering if any of you have any wierd or wonderful tactics to make the game more realistic. for exmaple, one person had the idea of enabling the special ability of speed merchant to most players apart from centrebacks as this gives a greater feeling of the 360 degree dribbling. also, someone made an option file that included editing certain player data to allow strikers to not get caught so blatently by slow centrebacks when through on goal as this is unrealistic in most cases. however the description of the OF didn't state exactly what he did, it may have just been reducing the top speed of all centrebacks by 5 or something.
so has anyone got any great ideas for gameplay enhancements?

Switch to PES6(X-Box), lol, I'm having a blast with it at the moment because of some of the things you've outlined here. I too tried different things to make the game harder/realistic. The problem is the core game engine though (or the AI or programming). Switching from the latest version by Konami to patched gameplay does indeed make the players more responsive, I think it was Galgard with Quiffs (or something) patch which did this, the problem was although the patch made the players more responsive and strikers had that bit of extra pace to outstrip defenders it was the same for the CPU, and what I was getting was horrendous 5-4 matches. The responsiveness it seems was outdoing the actual game engine, thus making it 'too responsive' for the game. It played beautifully, but now too beautifully.

I'm surprised there aren't loads of gameplay patches on here, loads of option files for kits etc but I can only see a couple of gameplay patches. There's a few things that now stick out like a sore thumb when comparing new with old PES's, the first is that in PES 2011 it pays to spam the through ball, it's just way too accurate and way too powerful as a tool. Compared with PES6(X-Box) for example, where you have to engineer a nice move before getting the benefits from playing a nicely weighted through ball. Secondly is that the keepers are much better in the older games, I've got finishing one on ones down to a T on PES 2011, in early PES games the goalies were realistic and quite hard to beat if you messed up your approach angle. And thirdly one-twos in the new game are just too easy and it's just too effective to 1-2 up the pitch. Even on Top Player after playing the initial 1 the CPU defender will almost never track the runner, in older versions they did, and you had to wait, wait, wait and even then the return 2 ball may not have been on, therefore start the move again.

The defences are all over the place to be honest, if someone could work on the defences, and I don't know what stats that would entail, to render through balls harder, and to make defenders stay in their places, it would undoubtedly make the game harder. Also perhaps gave all keepers the one on one card or something, either way it would require a lot of work.

I agree with something’s said here but other points I have to disagree…..

You can do all the things you want via editing stats of players, but it’s the under-lying engine where all the faults are, so by doing that you are not even "partly" fixing the problems mentioned.

I think goalkeepers have got a lot better especially in PES 2011, yes they make stupid mistakes sometimes and a lot of goals I concede are from the first shot being saved and pushed towards another player for a tap in, but the latter mentioned is the only problem I can see with them today.

I don't think 1 on 1's on Pro Evo 2011 are as easy as you say at all, especially if you’re playing Top Player...But I must admit over the past few weeks I have also being playing my PES6 on the PS2. I managed to download the old classic option file with every team in the game edited to a classic team from either 90's, 80's, 70's, 60's and 50's etc etc. The game really is a joy to play and it always has been, plus the file really brings back deja-vu and seeing great teams down the years like Real Madrid with, Ronaldo, Zidane, Figo, Beckham, Raul and the Liverpool 80's side, Rush, Dalglish, Barnes, Hansen etc etc and being able to play with them, is quite good.

I love the file even more so now today as back in 06 (when I only used to play with an up-to-date 2006 OF) because the classic file will never get old and it brings back A LOT of nostalgia.

It’s more relevant today.

But some of the keeper errors on the old Pro Evo's are terrible compared to today’s version, but today’s version also has problems that were a lot better back then on PES6. If only they could revert to some of the great things PES6 got right, so right.....

(BTW I've always said to my mates and they all agree, I've been saying it for years. A CLASSIC TEAM ONLY FOOTBALL GAME, which you can buy of the shelf and play. Fully licensed, all the classic players, today’s graphics.....how good would that be....)

that OF you speak of sounds awesome, it really does.
also i have pes 6 and pes5 on ps2 but prefer pes5 a lot more. because i got the xbox 360 back in 2005 when it was first released, i got pes6 for the 360 so missed the ps2 version which a bought years later after hearing how great it was but was surprised to find it very similar to the 360 version. but i agree that both wipe the floor with pes 11 (next gen), though i still enjoy pes 11. i think i have spend just as much time editing as i have playing lol.
for me editing adds a whole new dimension and makes pes so unique.
i have started using pesstatsdatabse.com to alter player stats and make them more up to date, but when it comes to playing i have to hop from one team to the other otherwise i find pes each game on pes to be very similar. mainly due to how powerful the through ball is as a tool.

If you want to make the game harder, start a master league as someone like Wigan Athletic.

> Do not buy anyone you wouldn't expect to sign for Wigan, buy Championship or Eredivisie players.

> Loan players in from larger clubs

> Sell your best player every season to fund signings.

> Play 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 but with 'loose' closing down and high defensive line.

Trust me, that'll make it tougher :D

For me even currently playing as Liverpool in a Top Player ML, I find it still a challenge, regardless of how I set my team up before and during the game.

For instance I'm about half way through now (Just got past Jan Transfer window) I was undefeated in all competitions, top of the league by about 5/6 points at the time. I always find Arsenal to be a hard team to play against, no SMASHED them after they went 1-0 up I won 2-1 and they didnt have a shot after that. Beat Chelsea fairly easy, Beat Man United fairly easy also. Then I played Wolves who were mid-table i went 3-0 up at half time (Carroll hat-trick) and i thought it was all over. Wolves come back 3-2 and hit the post when they nearly equalized. I manged to hold on and I caught them on the counter Carroll's 4th goal It finished 4-2.

So I was there thinking, I might even go undefeated all season here. Even if 1 or 2 draws during the season.....Oh was I wrong.....

1st game played since the transfer window closed, I signed Kieran Gibbs, Muniain, Jarvis, Di Maria. I sold Maxi Rodrigues for £45 MILLION to Real Madrid LMFAO! Sold Poulsen, Kyrgiakos and Fabio Aurelio. Arsenal also come in with a £17m offer for Carragher....and I thought well, he is on the decline 30+ so I thought yes, I wont get that money next season so I accepted the offer.

1st game back after the transfer window against Blackpool who lie 20th (Last) in the league, I played Di Maria and Gibbs from the start and I pummeled them ALL game, must have had 14 shots+. Battered them, there keeper made save after save after amazing save. It was 0-0 80th minute and I thought it looks like another draw, I could not score.

Then Ormerod went clean through of a through ball 1 on 1 (and iv never seen this on Pro Evo in my life by the CPU) he casually yet skilfully took it AROUND REINA, and tapped it in. I lost 1-0.

I could not believe it........

(So dont touch a thing to the game, this shit happens lol....and this is why I love Pro Evo over FIFA, I was gobsmacked, literally open mouthed gorming at the tele when they scored)

I hope they fuckin stay up now for that!

You highlight one of my major gripes with the game in your post CRANEY91, this is another reason I just can't play 2011 any more. You have a run of games against good teams winning and keeping clean sheets and think you found a system to play the game. Then the game scripting kicks in because you're too high up the league and you lose the next three games to Wolves, Blackpool, Wigan with scores like 5-4, it makes no sense at all. Due to this just crazy inconsistency you start wondering whether the entire game is scripted before hand. Therefore as many people mentioned you can either ride with the fact that the game already has a disposition to how it's going to played and run with it (like assisting the movie when it's running), or try and fight it and get frustrated that the game keeps raping you.

If you are in the camp that can appreciate PES for being a joyous assisted ride, with some very good graphics and some magical moments, then this is a fantastic game.

If you're in the other camp that wants to try and manipulate the result, tactics, yourself and giving yourself 100% user input to be right or wrong, the game is unbelievably frustrating.

I played PES 2011 in the way I think the makers wanted ME to PLAY the game after realising I couldn't really do WHAT I WANTED TO DO, and had many hours of enjoyment out of it. But when I got fed up of going along for the ride and just being a cog in how the game works and not actually making a great deal of difference, I started disliking it. Just some stupid things wind me up when I occassionally go back to 11 after PES6(Xbox), and that's the mongol-robotic-takes half an hour to get hold of controlling the player, the amount of assisted clearances, kicks, passes, and just the general unresponsiveness of the game.

Just to highlight that sometimes in PES2011 it makes no difference at all what you do, I played Bayern in a Europa League Quarter Final tie. Normally I get knocked out at this stage due to crazy scripting. I drew 2-2 with Bayern at theirs, I took the lead, then scripting kicked it, and then right on cue Ribbery scores a 89th minute free kick, first it wasn't a foul, secondly the free kick was a one in a hundred from the position he was in, but he scored. I then pulled out all my craft to get a late leveller. Game massively scripted, and the CPU tried it's best with my leveller to stop me after a wonder save, a rebound off the bar, and finally a tap in which Forlan almost missed.

Then the second leg I managed to hold out a 0-0 in which Bayern had like 2 shots on goal all match.

Now I know this does happen, but this stupid scripting both for and against the player is just stupid. Needless to say the computer learned me good and proper, as after I saw off Munich, the fight of FC Twente proceeded to go three nil up at Anfield inside thirty minutes, two laughable headers and a through ball off some 67 rated so and so who passed it through Carragher's head, for the striker to knock Agger out of the way and the CPU to give me total loss of control just as the shot was coming in.

Like many say on here it's not sour grapes, but the scripting must stop. I lost 3-0 to Man Utd yesterday on PES6(Xbox), Rooney was on fire, and every goal they cut me to ribbons, you can take that like a man, tactically I got it wrong, I lost possession in midfield twice, and didn't think of man marking their main goal threat - I can live with getting tonked like that, hands up, my fault. But although I've had some magic 11 moments, I just simply can't be a passenger on a trip that already has the stops marked out and final destination decided.

Try and play the game slowly, when I mean patient and slow, I mean SLOW.

Take your time on attacks, and when you find yourself defending, pressurize the players into difficult options.

Because if I didnt play like that, i'd get beat by the likes of Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea to. But because im stiffling them in games, and taking the game to them, they dont get a minutes rest. Attack, attack, attack as they say. However there have been times where teams have exposed me and scored a easy goal of a through ball, when that happens I can only hold my hands up.

But I atcually think its more realistic and tougher that you cant just roll over teams at the bottom of the league fighting for survival and teams challenging for Europe. These teams will have more to play for and will play like warriors in some games, dont underestimate them. Play them like you would one of the top teams, or else you'll find that you might just loose the game.

Just look at Liverpools season this year, we have had no trouble beating Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City, but when it comes to teams like Wigan, Blackpool and Wolves we struggle to break them down, and they will go and score a goal out of nothing at the other end and win.

In a way thats football....

(But I agree PES 2011 is no where near void of problems and IT DOES have some scripting in parts. But I feel the game trys to hold YOU back in terms of player changing, movement, reactions and A.I. stupidness....But thats always been PES and to overcome that you have to play around it.)

Craney91 makes a good point about the smaller teams, some of the battles I have in ML offline are intense, the AI adapts its tactics and fights harder than on any previous pes for a result, I'm sure we have all encounted some crazy scripting or whatever you wanna call it, I find PES 11 harder than any other PES. Here's how I play...

- Use manual pass for 80% of the game(still effected by stats) and only use manual cross, I use a mixture of normal pass and normal long ball, manual pass and manual cross.

- Try to make realistic transfers in ML

- I love using broadcast cam, Iv'e converted a few mates who also now use it and once you get used to it its amazing, makes the game harder and looks better graphically. Positioning players is harder in this cam.

- Pick a 1m or 500,000 pound doctor in ML, injuries happen more frequently but not to much,

+5 dribble speed for all, and speed merchant for all. Those players with low agility, low dribble speed and dribble accuracy doesn't really get any advantage off speed merchant anyway.

Even the slowest defenders in football does not lose all speed every time they want to turn with the ball...

the +5 dribble speed should be ignored... while it works well vs CPU because of the defender catchup, it completely imbalance the player vs player aspect.
