Man marking defence?

Right, here's the situation. I am playing as Juventus but I find it happens with whichever team I choose so choice of team is not an issue.

The opposing team (a friend, not the CPU) is attacking my defence and every bloody time he manages to somehow draw at least two of my defenders out of position so that he can pass the ball from the wing, along the ground to a player that is slightly more central and then pass the ball once more into the middle and be totally free to shoot as he pleases. It feels like all of my defenders are ball-watching and not aware of the passes that can be struck.

It is very, very annoying so I was wondering if there are settings/tactics that you can employ to make your defenders stick closely to the other players and make sure they cannot recieve dangerous passes without at least being under heavy pressure.

Can anyone help me out here? Cheers :D

choose man marking and choose the player that you want to keep an eye on at all time. i usually mark the two forwards and turn my defense level up by holding :L2: and pressing :R2: until my defense bar is blue.

Sorry, when do I get to choose Man-Marking? Is it just before we start the match? Will my opponent see which of his players I have selected for man-marking? How many of my opponents players can I Man-Mark?

Is there a downside to man-marking? Is it easier for an opponent to play one-twos through the defence if I am using the Man-Mark technique?

Sorry for all the questions, big tournament coming up 3/4!! ;)

In the formation screen, go to Individual and then man marking is the 3rd option. You can assign each of your ten outfield players to man-mark someone and you can mark whichever players you want.

Before trying man-marking, I'd suggest you check the Attack and Defence arrows of your defence and make sure that they all have Attack arrows pointing towards their own goal and none going foward. This should keep them back. Experiment with the Defence arrows to see which work best.

Marking sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. If the opponent switches his formation, this could drag your markers out of place and you'll be in trouble.

Yeah i done the attacking arrows towards goal it does help with defenders Pique used to go up alot but since i've done the arrows he doesn't Jaap Stam is the worse for going up and attacking.

Attacking arrows towards goal is very dangerous, because you give to the opponent a lot of space for him to shoot for easy goal, I don't recommended it
