ken mate,I've actually seen him,and he's the type of player that'd make Zidane look poor.Awesome sight. In 1960 he sxcored four goals in the european champions cup final at hampden, including two volleys

I'm still sceptical. Definitely not saying Di Stefano isn't up there with the best, but defenders in those days weren't the same as they were in the Eighties and after. Plus the fact teams used to play daft formations like 3-2-5!
If Gentile had marked Di Stefano we might have seen how good he really was. He was the original one-man swarm.

And just to add to that last post. I recommend watching the Gole 1982 World Cup video. It's class.
Sean Connery: "Whereas the Belgians stifled Maradona with numbers, the Italians marked him with a one-man crowd named Gentile"

backdoor - It was only the AFC Wimbledon reserves that played Shalford. You should come down to Kingsmeadow, Kingston one day and see some good non-league stuff. We have won ALL 17 of our league games and in the third round of the FA Vase Cup at our first attempt. The team that played you were probably PONY but the first team definitely arent. So come down to the fans stadium. :)

hey guys....remeber me?????
Distefano is very good, so was Puskas...they all played in Real Madrid.
Distefano on that geocitie site....has 5 CL.

Does anyone ever beat that??? 5 CL???

I'm portuguese and i like Eusebio a lot, he was in a team not so good, there for didn't win anything important(only 1 CL)...big deal.
Distefano won 5 CL....ring a bell????
Maradona was unique, he was the whole team. Pele had very good players playing with him.

Well....they are all players, that had is unique abilities, and where unique....please don't compare them....Different times, different players.....

But who is the best actual player in the world??????

Zidane now,Di Stefano all-time....definitely,both footed, played every position, and the only reason he never had as big a reputation as these boys is that, for various reasons he never played in a world cup

read the site, you will se some of the greatest,i.e Cruyff & Maradona, agree that he was indeed the best, and ultimately,a more lethal striker than Pele....Real were struggling no hopers 5 years before the Distefano era,and 10 years into his Real career, they were known as the best team ever, and had won the most Champs' leagues,or as they were called then Euro Champs' Cups.

hmm distepheno was a great player..but no where in the leagues as the god of football PELE!!!..Dont forget Stepheno was playing with an all mighty team in real madrid when he won all those CL..also right next to him was a great player nearly equal to himself Pukas. Pele has won everything from Club to Country..more then any other player in history. In the beginining santos were not a top team..but for 20 years he made them into the biggest club in south america and a couple of times demolished the best european teams in exibition matches! The only sad thing was europe never got the chance to witness pele greatness yr by yr..because brazil would not sale him to the europe biggest teams..because he was a national treasure. He won all the titles at club level...won 3 world cups...been awarded every acolade including "athlete of the century" which is a category for all sports and only won 1 in a 100 years ... what more can you ask from a player???

no,the reason that tops off Di Stefano being better to me is that he could play a world class game, including goalkeeper!Believe it or not!Pele was limited to striker, however Di Stefano covered every aspect of football in one match, from clearing balls off the line to hammering home left foot volleys from 25 yards......you must read what some of the best players say about this guy,Maradona thinks he uis better than Pele

You read the site and find out

well of course maradona would say his better then pele..he dont like brazilians..especially black players..who he refers to as "monkeys" he always had a rivalry between Zico..he never liked pele.."maybe cause he is jealous..he never achieved anything pele has" di -stepheno is argentinian so there is a link there between maradona boy-hood idlol. Even if Pele hasnt played in europe ..it doesnt matter...between the 1950s to 80's south america was the most dominant nation..and in that time pele was scoring 50-60 goals a season. Pele was more of a striker he was also layed plenty of assists through out his career..just take the "70" world cup he scored as many as assisted. A few years ago there was a debate who is the best player ever by FIFA officials, journalists and coaches .., Pele took 72.75 percent of the vote to 9.75 percent for Argentine Alfredo Di Stefano and just six percent for Maradona. Beckenbaur came second, di-stepheno then maradona ..a yr later he won athlete of the century..Everyone has there opinion who is the best player..but no one can compare to what pele has achieved.

No one can compare with Pele's international achievements, but did you know that Di Stefano missed every world cup through complications and injury....And yes,Di Stefano can compare to Pele's club level achievements......and Maradona's statement was,''I don't know if I was better than Pele, but I emphasize that Di stefano was a better player....Maradona was dark skinned btw

I wasn't alive when Pele, Garrincha, Eusebio, Di Stefano, and Puskas were playing. And TV never shows the crap things they did - only the brilliant ones. Skinner and Baddiel did a feature ages ago about how crap Pele was, showing some really REALLY bad stuff and mistakes.
I lived through Maradona's era and I can't remember him doing anything wrong apart from his odd behavioural problems.
He won the World Cup virtually on his own, then went to Italy and took Napoli from a makeweight to Serie A champions.
He's a god. And was probably right about the whole "Hand of...." business.
Besty was class but never really got as good as he could have been.

I didn't see the baddiel and skinner thing but I saw a programme on great footballers, and everyone talked about how inthe 1970 or 74 world cup everyone thought Pele was losing it and during the tournament he took a shot at goal from the halfway line and missed !!!!(not by much but still) and everyone talks about it being amazing!!!! George Best is the greatest his 1968 season with Charlton and Law he showed histrue talents also playing for Stockport County (the true team of Manchester) makes him the greatest player.

Yeh Pele is forfather of some of the best tricks like the overhead flick..."58" world cup he scored twice through that and once in the final against sweden. The un -orthodox dummy Wc"70" uruguay ,over leg trick..sometimes mistakenly called the "rivelino"
..in the late 60's a lot of ppl had written off pele as done, cant produce no more..including the brazilian public...he was included in the 70 WC only because there president of brazil inforced him into the team...sacking the coach who did not want pele. What reamains is in history...pele was there leader..the final jigsaw to already amazing team of players...he scored and assisted....Bobby Moore of england said "in 1970 after watching Pele...brazil were destined to win that World Cup" Dark skinned dont mean black..notice no black players in a argentnian squad . When maradona was writing newspaper articles he refered to edilson and robinho as monkeys and nigerados .Dont get me wrong mardana is as skilled as Pele..but he totaly has no brain at all.
