Yes but you can play it without playing the first one. To be honest, there's little excuse not to buy the first one and play it before getting into the second, its certainly cheap enough.

The story across both games is excellent.

Sigh. I just found out that my graphic card is below the recommended specs. Mine's ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT. The recommended graphic card for that brand is 2900 XT.

Hence, it freezes/crash sometimes during loading.
