I used the default values as well (4*), but was pretty surprised at the high volume of transfer requests I received for the default players. I had never received a transfer request for a default player on WE6. It seems a bit unrealistic and charitable that other squads would want these players. Seeing Seedorf on Tottenham was likely the final straw, I will be going with the minimum transfer settings when I crank up my 5* campaign.
