is it possible to do the swap trick without the slide card?? ie make a homemade 1? i followed the "knife-trick" link but the pics wasnt working on the website to print out a template etc, can any1 recommend a way even if i have to use paper clips! i cant seem to find a site which doesnt look dodgy that sells swap magic or even the modchips, how hard is it to play backup games!!! i so badly wanna play pes5 patched!

I've heard that a credit card is a good substitute for a Slide Card.

You still need Swap Magic though and I generally wouldn't recommend using a credit card to open and close your disc tray.

You can use the Action Replay disc as a booting method for backups. The problem is though that the boot up success rate is lower than it would be for Swap Magic.

Whatever you do though, don't chip your PS2. What often happens with these "chippers" is that they take away your PS2, keep it and they give you a pre-modded PS2 - probably with older fans and power units inside the console aswell.

You should really go for the Slide Card and Swap Magic combo. It's literally a lifesaver - you'll wonder how you managed without it.

The best place to buy a Slide Card and Swap Magic combo is off Ebay.

As for buying off Ebay, I believe this should be within your price range:

In fact, they're the cheapest being sold on Ebay.

I bought a pre-chipped PS2 and have had no problems. Someone I know got their PS2 chipped and it's not that great now.

Saves you a hell of a lot of time and effort swapping disks though.

I suppose it comes down to whether the guy you're getting to chip your console is reliable or not.

But still, the Swap method has saved me a lot of money and hassle.

help!

I bought slide card and I followed the instructions to remove the front cover of my ps2 (v. 9) but I didn't find anywhere the tiny screw. I only found (something like) a screw that holds the PS logo in front of the cover. Does anyone know what to do? I don't want to break it!

Sorry, can't help you with the older versions as my Playstation 2 is a v4.

I did once hear that the screw that was holding the front of the disc tray together had been removed from v7 (and onwards) Playstation 2 consoles.

In any case, there should be some instructions on how to take off the front of the disc tray (on a v9) with the Swap Magic discs.

Just make sure you have a look carefully through the instructions.

I found somewhere that 5000x versions (as mine) don't have screw! So I just pull it out and opened (the blowdryer method worked excellent!). Thanx anyway.

Yeah, I pointed that out in my earlier post. ;)

Glad to hear that you've managed to get it working.

Would the slide card and swap magic disks work with a ps2 thats already been chipped? (with a chip that can only play cd-r) :erm:

I've never heard of a chip that plays CD-R only. Are you sure it's not just your lens thats the problem? Because the PS2 lens can turn out like that sometimes - only reading one type of media after years of lens degradation.

But, if you genuinely have a CD-R only chip, then I guess that the DVD version of Swap Magic should work (as long as you have a Slide Card or a flip-top).

I think we need to start this thread again with the latest info and links - even if some of it is copied from here. Anyone got the time and knowledge to help out with this? Much appreciated.
