ML player stats questions

Hey, just got a couple of questions. I bought the player guarin for my ML team about 2ML years ago however his stats have gone down since I bought him.

He starts every game and has scored a few goals, he is a CMF/SMF which is mostly where I have played him although he did play on the wing for about 10 games. I don't understand why his stats have gone down? (he is only 24)

Secondly, I have just bought larssen at 17, because I play in the 1st division he is well out of his depth at the moment because he has rubbish stats, so he can't do anything in the first team - how can I build him up? is it just a matter of bringing him on a sub every so often and letting his stats gradually build?

Cheers

He must be a dual developer (rise then fall then rise again). It should rise again in a couple of years.

Players will develop regardless if you play them or not so just leave them alone until they're 20-22. Maybe play them in a few cup matches, depending on how good their stats are.

Ah cheers didn't realise players developed even if they didn't play. About this dual developer thing, surely after 2 years he shouldn't have dropped about 7/8 stat points on average ?

It depends on the player how much he drops and how long he drops for. Also only physical stats will drop such as balance, speed, dribble speed, stamina, response, shot power, and jump. All the other stats will never drop and even an old player can still raise those technical stats really slowly if you train them.

There a type of growth curve in the game called "early peak", so I would assume that a player with that growth curve would develop to his peak early on then decline for the rest of his career.

So I guess it is possible that you may have been unlucky enough to buy such a player. I have read on a forum somewhere that some guy bought Marco van Basten and his stats began to drop at age 23 (to reflect the fact he had to retire at 28 possibly?).

Having said that i signed a guy called Kapetanos at 18 and his ratings initially dropped then rose again, like Stormrider is describing. So either could be possible, you just can't tell til it happens!

I beg your pardon?
yeah van basten dropped for me after a season or two. now he is going back up again but even though his stats are better than before he is strugglin to regain his form. there are a couple of ways you can check on a player. either go into edit and look what he is set to, or wait til end of season change it to easy temporarily and look at his curve in development. purists may scoff at the idea but it's your game.

quite a few games later and his body balance, which was in the 90s when i bought him keeps hovering around 88, a few times it has gone down to 87 then the next game he gets a few points and goes back to 88
