Hi,
I am new to MLO (played it last year) on the 2012 version and am struggling with the money. I have found that it is difficult to have substantial amounts of money at any point as i keep having to buy contracts for my players.. Can anyone help and advise me what to do my current situation is as follows:
£5,800,000
Full team of MLO players that you start with
played 4 games
have bought no one
few players running out of contract..

please help!! :(

Basically here's my advice:

First of all, the standard starting players are unsustainable. Despite being low/fixed value, their wage cost is overinflated due to a substantial amount of teams owning these players. Start out not buying anyone, and run out the existing contracts of these players and sell them when they expire. All of them.

Importantly, don't release any players who already have an existing contract. These players are bought and payed for for x amount of matches and releasing them is uneconomical.

There are many players who have equal/better overall/stats than the starting players and are cheap. More importantly, their contracts are a lot cheaper that the starting players. Look hard and you will find them.

Always put players on 50 match contracts if possible as it is far more cost effective/economical in the long run.

Look out for players early on who have multiple positions but get a better rating and/or are more suited to one of their other registered positions. For example, Odemwingie has 68ovr for CF. Move him to RMF/LMF and he gets 78ovr. Rooney goes from 90ovr CF to 95ovr RMF. Occasionally you can get a very good bargain this way.

Eventually build a squad, not just a team and try to find a balance of player form arrows/synergy. This may become a constant work in progress.

Don't buy too many players in a short space of time as the standard 10 match contracts the players come with can hurt you if you're not careful.

Try not to buy any players when their form graph is declining. For instance, if you buy a player with a green arrow and a standard 20 day graph on his last day of green, he will be blue for 2 days, purple for 4 days and blue for another 2 days before going back up to green.

Obviously stamina can be very important, once a players stamina depletes to 50% during a match, his stats start to decline for the rest of the match. Also the less stamina the player has the likelihood is that he'll take longer to recover fitness and therefore be unavailable more often than a player with higher stamina.

Basically, that's the basics. Once you are a few hundred games in, you can think about synergy and dream teams etc

PS. If you happen to play a 4-5-1 with long ball, buy Miruic. He is a monster. 700+ matches in and assets of 400 Mil, Miruic is still part of my squad :)

when starting out in MLO it is important to extract as much finiancial gain from the default squad as you can.... This means releasing players only when they have zero matches remaining contract.

So, use the default team members that are in good form, wait for the defaults that are in bad form, do not just release them,.

IMO, GK two CB's 2CM's and 1 CF are the positions you will need to improve first. Really there are some great bargains out there...

I've been pleasantly suprisd actually at how quickly I've been able to build a team, especially compared to last years version. That's great advice above and in addition I'd add to enter any competition you can, any decent placing gets you some etra cash on top of your mtch fees and as they're free to enter you've nothing to lose.

My player tips are Dotan, Cudicini and Piatti with honourable mention to Andy Johnston and Di Michele. Other than that see what players you struggle to play against and they may help you choose who you want to buy.

Best of luck!

Been following the tips but still having problems.. i just cant seem to get started. i have 16 players in my squad. my starting 11 are all of over 30 contracts and the the 5 subs have 0 contracts. i am currently on 20mill and have bought 2 players which are Mphela and Sturridge.. from doing quick calculations i have found that i wont be making any money from playing games as, by the time i play all the games so that the contracts run out on my starting 11 then this means that i have to pay 30mill+ for more contracts and i wont have any money left to improve my squad! please help and i do have that mypes thing :) cheers for the help

Get rid of all the starting players. They are contractually unsustainable. Replace them with better players with cheaper contracts. Once you get rid of them and get all your new players on 50 match contracts, you should find it easy to sustain your team on draws alone.

Right now if i was to renew all of my starting eleven for the day with 50 match contracts, it would cost 95 mil. Roughly 1.9 mil per match. Right now, I'm getting about around 1.7 for a loss, 2.85mil for a draw and 3.4 mil for a win.

Hope this helps :)
