Cellini,
Please tell me a little more about Valeron. Seldom hear about him.

Nifty1Pound50's description is very fair. I tend to play him as a DMF (in PES2/PES3), and for that position he has solid defensive abilities, and excellent passing and creativity.

He can take a large part of the credit for the consistent success of Deportivo La Coruna in both Spain and Europe in the last few years.

I tend to use Keane as a DMF partner, allowing Valeron to push forward. It's almost like making an extra OMF, but this way they do work back in defence and launch attacks from much deeper.

I checked his stats against Ballack, and the German does appear better in a lot of areas, but somehow I prefer Valeron. Maybe its the blend of skills, or just the right 'special abilties'?

Totti is an amazing CF/OMF for Roma - he usually plays as a deep-lying forward in real life (in the 'hole'). Great technique, excellent shot and passing.

A playmaking CF who's good enough to keep Del Piero ouit of the Italian national side for long periods over recent years. The Italians won't play them together (at least I can't recall) - it's against their principles.

Difficult to think of very similar players, he might be like a right-footed Recoba, if you can imagine? Or Aimar with bags of aggression?

He's from a real rough part of Rome - I heard one italian football journalist (Gabrielle Marcotti) say it's unlikely even Italians from outside his quarter of Rome can understand his accent. He also got sent of in the first half of a Champions League game at Arsenal last year - he's very, very intense.

What leagues do you see on tv?

Zyg, whilst I commend you for trying to keep things on track and the smooth running of the forum I thought that was a little harsh. Is the point of this website not to discuss Pro Evo (amongst other things)? Whilst I agree that it's best to stick to the topic of the thread we should surely allow our discussions to develop?

Anyway, back on topic ;) I prefer the DMF pariing of Cannavaro and Vieira. I know Cannavaro is technically a defender, but he has all the attributes of a great DMF (where PES3 is concerned). Do you guys really class Valeron as better than Vieira (in the game)?

No. We should always bow down to the Moderators, as they have more net-based power than us, on this website at least. They win any dispute by default.

Valeron is not a better player than Vieira in a DMF role. However, many would rather buy him because there is a general consensus that it's more fun to play with a variation of players, and it also means that discussions like "My ML Team" don't consist of 24 identical squads.

Also, wages will be cheaper, and they are easier to acquire. Obviously I can't speak for everyone, but I think also people don't want to sound patronising by saying "Hey, have you tried this Senegalese bloke? What's his name? Paddy something-or-other."

Trez, gotta say its a deadly lookin team.

I think I would start with Raul on the left of midfield and stick Shevchenko up front, then after about 65 mins take of the most tired striker ( maybe moving Raul up front ) & bring on giggs and then laugh my nuts off as he destroys the tired right back !!!!!

If this is my ML Team, I wouldn't have so many star substitutes.

Using Promising Players as substitutes are better, less salary and lower cost.

Topic?...Trez's ideal PES3 team, others' views on it, and how we might change it.

Viera is an ideal DMF for the 'holding' role in front of defence, and Cannavaro would probably be great there too. The reason I go for Valeron is to use him slightly differently because beyond his decent defencive skills, he has the right kind of passing and playmaking skills to take to ball forward into the opposition's half.

Ballack does have a lot of abilities/special skills that would also make him great at attacking from deep in midfield. For example, is rating for short passing is 95 or something similar (if memory serves).

The way I try to play the DMF pairing is one 'holds' (say Viera or Cannavaro) and the other is encouraged to get forward linking up with the OMF and others, almost becoming an extra OMF, but one who will work back to cover when the opposition are attacking (say Valeron or Ballack).

The way I try to vary their play is by setting the deeper lying, more defensive DMF to CV in the Mark Settings and their Attack arrows covering the width of the pitch. His more attacking DMF partner, has his Attack arrows forward and inside-forward into the areas where I want him to go either when he's got the ball, or my team are in possession.

(I don't want to see his partner wandering up there too much and leaving the 3 centre-back's without cover against being hit on the break.)

I would have gone for 2 DMs in Vieira and Davids, but unfortunately he's too short.

Vieira's better playing alone.

And what do U think is Ballack's best pos.?
CM, DM, OM, what???

I'd say DMF - the one encouraged to get forward link up with the OMF/SMF's or slide passes through to the CF's - becoming the 'extra' OMF, but willing to work back to cover when the opposition are attacking.

This is the role he often played at Leverkusen and more recently Bayern Munich, dictating the direction of the attack, then bursting into the box late with headers and volleys, or driving in shots from a little further out.

I believe his role at Bayern in real life has become less attacking, more the holding DMF player, largely because they were conceding so many goals at the start of this season.

That's wrong, because Ballack hadn't moved to Bayern yet. He was still playing for Leverkusen in the 2001-02 season.
