commentary names

Bought the game yesterday and spent the usual few hours editing everything (teams, stadiums etc) but noticed the "review commentary" for team names is not available. Is there a trophy I have to win to open this facility? Thanks J.

great game..i still think winning eleven 8 is slightly better....the one thing i hate is the keepers...they are absolutely shit.....they stand still on nearly every shot or goal...fair enough, some goals i forgive them for not divin...but most i cannot forgive....terrible keepers!

what u think man?
they arent in a indoor goal....
football goal is way much bigger, so they cant reach the ball in some shots its not their fault man, just try to defend better and dont let em shot at you so easy .^^

Hey there, I know I asked this earlier and I also know that the answers will probably be trivial but does anyone know:

1.) How come most player's names are correct at club level and yet they are not at international level (e.g. Bellamy, Van Nistelroy)?

2.) How come players/clubs purchased from the shop cannot be used in Master League? It seems that quite a few teams are missing? Is it just me?

Cheers Guys
Regards
Paul

What a major dissapointment!! Have played pes since the beginning.. Konami are trying to steel the fifa fans. = making it more arcade. It's not realistic. It's way tooo fast. Can chip 40yards ball right through the defence..so easy to make a brilliant pass. Create one-one with keeper chances all the time, but they made it more difficult to score..not unusual to create 20 shots on goal pr match. and that playing against "good" teams... I dribbled (my friend, he's good) 9 players from kick off and scored.. And he was france.. It's so pecking easy to dribble. The defenders seems like schoolgirls.
And more stupid free kicks!!?? Argh! Now you dont need to push the x to get free kicks against you. If you ask me konami have made this game to sell, i guess kids really enjoy pes4. smalll kids. it's a shame.

What's all this talk about keepers? I have played it loads now and never had the keeper stand still for a goal, they have for wide shots but that's good. Beat chelsea 6-2 with man united on 5 star and thought, damn this is too easy(more like a fifa score) then i played southampton away and lost 1-0, brilliant, just like real life.
Going to buy the 6 star option beacuse despite what i've just said i do find it too easy on 5 star

try to play with an average team...
So easy to score you said, right? with top strikers top teams etc...
Get a decent team u will see the real deal .:p
And to bmn this is not for fifa fans dude.game aint arcade dude.
Maybe u blind and can only see how good ronaldo is vs a crappy defense...
Or how Zidanes passes are all letal...jesus man i never play with cracks on me team .... ^^ all 90+ 90+ 90+ puff that stinks and u play em and now say defense is girly.
oh well again tell you get a decent team with 75 as average ....
and then come back here and tell me the game is stil arcade...and that u can create chances very easy ...lol

c ya lads....and play a bit with rest of teams before give your stupid comments

At first I hated it and it has now been 3 days and I am starting to see the light. The thing that annoyed me was the fact that players like Beckham and Giggs, players who hardly ever use their weaker foot, were using their weaker feet all the time. A trip to the Edit mode and there is an option in players abilities which states - Lesser Foot Frequency (or something similar). Drop this to 1 (minimum) and they look like they are playing football how they should. I did this for nearly every player in Premier League and the game seems much much better and far more realistic. Try it!!

Generally speaking i like PES4 a lot (except the music - wtf were they thinking?) but there are a couple of really irritating bugs in the game:

1) The long passing is excellent, but at least once a game i'll try a long pass to a winger or striker and for some inexplicable reason the ball will be passed BACKWARDS to the keeper!! One several occasions i have conceded a goal because of this and it's starting to piss me off!

2) if you do the R2 sidestep for too long it sticks and no matter what you press you can't get out of it before being tackled. Again this is getting on my tits.

Has anyone else noticed these bugs? I've tried two separate controllers with the same results so i'm pretty sure it's the game.

The music in the master league mode is quite good, in my opinion.

In PES3, you could turn away from goal and cross it into the box, but it's different in PES4. The players seem to deliver the long balls in the direction in which you tell them to (where you press on the dpad or analogue, I had the same problem before, but not anymore). However, if you hold :L1: and then press the :circle: button, then they’ll cross it to the forward, doesn’t matter which way you’re facing.

2) if you do the R2 sidestep for too long it sticks and no matter what you press you can't get out of it before being tackled. Again this is getting on my tits.

Don't hold it for too long then.

I cant believe there is no stripes in the game. If there is not, this has to be a massive mistake by the makers because why else would they leave them out? supporters of teams like newcastle (me), palace, celtic etc are gonna be a bit miffed when they play. still looking forward to getting it when i fix my bloody ps2.

I swear they do it on purpose. If Konami really wanted to they could make PES virtually flawless. Instead each year they improve some aspects of the presentation and, for some inexplicable reason, remove others.

I can't believe we're on the SIXTH incarnation of ISS/PES and are still having to edit half of our kits and team names!

I have had a good go at strip editing over the last few days. Through different ways and means you can get some of the strips looking really spot on. (Man u, Arsenal...) But why the fudge are there less default strip options than in PES3. The Newcastle strip is rubbish and there is no shirts with stipes to choose from. Its the same with celtic, no hoops.

Another thing i noticed is that the keepers seem to be worse somehow. Its hard to put my finger on but they dont exactly fill me with confidence. I have scored some ridiculously silly goals and conceeded a few as well, all due to goalkeeping mistakes. They dont get thier angles right in one on one situations.

I know i sound like i'm moaning but apart from these things I think its really class and im rather impressed.

Really? I'd appriciate it if you could somehow post a pic of your Arsenal Kit creation, or tell me what kit options you chose. The gunners are my team, but i can't get their strip correct at all. They still have white sleeves, IF i ignored that, then perhaps i could get a "look-a-like", but with that factor taken into account, i can't get an authentic looking strip for the Gunners at all.

my impresions of PES4 so far:

Negatives/annoyances:
* the presentation has gotten worse (not a fan of the VERY SLOW opening cutscenes and the SLOW formations screens). I liked the match opening scene better in PES3. PES4 is even missing the "team photo shot" which i thought looked kick-ass in the previous game. Also, even the commentators talk over each other on some occasions! a step back for me, definitely.
* my jury is out on the soundtrack. They've gone for a rock-type theme, (rock is my prefered music generally), but there's something i miss about the dance type music of PES3 which i think suited the footie game better.
* Also, there seems to be some sort of menu lag scrolling through the main menu and i generally am not a fan of this side-scrolling feature.
* dislike the limited kit selections for editing. It's less than PES3 and i was a major home-grown type old school editor, so not being able to get the kits right because the jersey selection is poor is quite disappointing.
* No option for team name commentary?
* visual tearing (?) or what some call "lag" in the 60Hz mode around the penalty box area.
* the number of penalties incurred in a match is sometimes rediculous. I've had about 4 or 5 games where i've been awarded 2 penalties in the match playing the COM!
* the editing in general - there's simply SO MUCH to do this time around with all the teams from the English, French and German leagues added. The names for the other world club teams and some national teams aren't even currect and i think this time around, it's seriously doing my head in on what i'll have to edit... sigh.

On the plus side:
* i like the improved ball physics. It was one thing that immediately struck me from playing the game.
* improved player animations. Just running around with the ball and watching a player take a shot. Sometihng felt immediately fresh about PES4.
* quicker shooting, thankfully i can get all kinds of shots off in the box mithout always having the defense block the shot.
* ref doesn't book automatically - however - this can also be a minus, because the refs seem to be TOO lenient now.

Overall though, i'm quite pleased and i know i'll be playing this all year long until PES5 arrives.
