I'm in the year 2011. I initially signed him for use as an attacking midfielder. However, he seemed to lack the pace and control to go past people the way I want my forward men to do.

Therefore I put him in the defensive role where his ability to pass the ball out and therefore starting quick attacks was unhindered.

He started a little slowly, for the first half season he got tired far too quickly and I did indeed consider selling him at one juncture. However, I saw he was still on the up development wise and gave him another chance. He picked up and is now the regular starter in that position and deputy captain. He can hit some superb shots when the ball falls to him and his control has improved a bit meaning i can run with him if I have to and have a chance. As long as you don't mind allowing maybe a half to full seasons development then he will serve you well.

Already got Denilson in that position, he's incredibly strong and can get the ball almost anyone. But lacks the passing and shooting skill of Van der Vaart. I might get Van der Vaart and rotate using them depending on if I primarly want offensive or defensive skills. Thanks for the tip! :)

Nice team. Van der Vaart is awesome in the game. His passes are pretty good so a DMF is a great choice of position to play him in.
