Strange, I've been playing PES3 for over a year and PES2 b4 that. There's always been a nagging feeling that I don't get it. My players just don't seem to do what I tell them, just enough to keep me playing but not enough to become any good. TBH I put it down to age, losing my gaming touch. Last nite I had an epiphany. So I thought I'd pass on the tip, as I've looked here before to see what I was doing wrong, and maybe I'm not the only duffer. I've never got headers or shooting when the ball is in the air.

I like to see pressing buttons as entering a mode, rather than actually doing an action. So when a cross comes in, you keep your finger pressed on shoot, don't let go of the button and your striker will continue to move in striking mode to connect with the ball. The timing element is when to start pressing the shoot button. Suddenly you'll discover at the same time that you can direct shots. The same goes for heading and passing, KEEP THE BUTTON PRESSED until the action is complete. I've been releasing the key, trying to time the jump or pass, trying to find that mythical magic spot of timing. When they say in the manual 'press', they mean 'press and hold'.

Same goes for crossing keep your finger pressed until the ball is crossed.

Last nite I started scoring all those goals and passing the ball around like the computer does on higher levels. It was just like watching Brazil :) . My footy playing style has not changed from the early FIFA games, where when you press a button (ie press and release) the action takes place. I hope this helps some people, if not, ignore me and tell me everyone got it but me.

i knew about holding down cross until the power guage is full, but are you sure its the same for shooting? Voleys have always been a problem for me, but surely if you hold it down too long they'll sky it?

There's a difference between balls in the air and balls on the ground. Balls in the air you just connect. Balls on the ground you get a power bar, so you have to stop pressing before the bar gets up too high. On true volleys, ie you hit the ball in the air without it bouncing, I've been leaving the button pressed and using the direction keys (similar to the layout of penalties) to connect. If you don't press a direction shots seem to be hit straight to the middle of the goal, often over the bar depending on the skill of the player. I'd been interested to find if anyone else finds this system works, or if it's me just having a funny turn ;)

Just to be clear, WHEN are you holding down the button? For example, cross using double tap circle - do you then immediately hold down square (shoot), until connecting with the ball as a header or shot and press direction?!? Sounds useful actually, but not sure if it works as it sort of circumvents the powermeter then...
