Network adapter work with modded PS2?

Ok, so I have a network adapter for my ps2. I know it used to work, played SOCOM on it. But havent played it in awhile, and also havent played it since modding the PS2. Got WE9 now, so I wanted to try online, plugged in the network adapter, and the PS2 just doesnt recognize it is there...I dont know how to get it to work. Thought maybe it has something to do with modding it, but not sure. i know the USB ports work since I use x-port. Any help?
