I've always used the radar, I find it hard to play without it, gives my mates no excuses to turn it off cos it's a distraction!

I personally dont like it, and do quite well without it. I mean, there is no sense of playing real football, if you can look at a radar and know where all your players are. Better to rely on your own ability to pick out team mates. Get a nice enough camera and its fine. then you really have to look on the pitch for your team mates making the runs and stuff.

I love using the radar, so this doesn't bother me. I consider it a crime to turn it off.

This is a fuss over nothing. I'm finding the radar more and more helpful the more I play PES. If you can't see in front of you or how close a defender is while you're on a run, you look at the radar. Sometimes you can see the keeper off his line from a long distance and you can have a dig... It can make people's games better don't you see that?

I don't understand why people are complaining. The radar is there to help us (to a great extent as well) and I, for sure, wouldn't be able to play without it.

There's no complain about presence of radar. It's about a lack of option which is the thing game devs should never implement in any game because it's one of the things that pisses off gamers most of all.
People who say that not using radar is some kind of lameness and that it's impossible to play well without it are just trying to pretend to be better and kewler than those who do not use it, without any facts to back up that statement.
I always played without radar since PS1 Iss games and I can explain why.
My priority is to get the game feel as realistic as it gets, that's why I'm using broadcast camera 1, angle 9 which provides maximaly close to live TV view. I know that it's not the best camera in terms of wideness of view, but it's not the least either. The same thing goes with radar. It spoils the whole feel of the game and it looks really ugly and it's too big.
About the usefullness of radar.
I've always played using short passing mainly (crosses don't count) and I believe most of you too. Radar isn't necessary for short passes. I usually directly see the teammates I want to pass and even if I'm not I know where they're positioning because I know my formation and tactics.
Radar is needed only to spot the unmarked player on the opposite end of the field to make a long ball. I've scored some goals after those ones, but as far as I'm concerned, using long balls often isn't efficient anyway because of flaws of the game.
Even if you manage to get the ball to unmarked forward and make him clear of defenders, catch up thingie does it's damage and usually youre caught before you can make a decent shot on goal.
Ball flies too fast and low in most cases which makes the cpu goalie rush out of the net on half of the occasions and you know very well, if goalie rushes out of the net to collect, odds for your forward getting to the ball first are equal to zero.
When you get really perfectly timed long ball without getting in offside and making forward clear for likely one on one situation it very often happens that player instead of stoping the ball dead or pushing it forward for his advantage just let it bounce and bounce and boooounce. Even skilled players behave clumsy. Even if you were clear ahead for 3-6 meters lack of decent ''first touch''(don't even think...) is taking so much time that oposition might have a time for a cup of tea before arriving and eating your lousy forward.

Conclusion:
Radar may have some use for succesfull long passing, but using long balls often makes no sense, because of their uneffectiveness.
Radar isn't a key to success.

PS:
I'm talking about pes3/we7. Don't have a clue about we8/pes4(waiting for PC version).

You have a point. But, I dont base my style of play on short passes. I prefer quick counter attacks, playing balls into space and across field for players to run on to. Without the radar, i could not play this style of football at all well. I agree that the first touch of a player who receives a long pass is pants in PES3, but direct passes can be effective if you play a counter attacking startegy in the set-up.

Care to show us how? Or a pic of PES4 with no radar on the screen?

In PES4 the only choices in the Screen Settings option is
Bottom, Top or Translucent.
Fact.

But wait a min though. It shouldnt be what we prefer, shouldnt we still be given the option to have it on or off??? why can we only make it translucent??? that is poor!! I agree with one of the posts, I like to recreate a real match feel, dont want some box at the bottom of the screen with dots on it. sorry, but thats what it means to me.

Also, I dont have a problem with playing the ball into space I know my players and how and when they will/should make runs off the ball. And without using the radar, you get used to spotting these better intead of relying on an aid such as that. So to me, I dont find it a problem, I can play any kind od of game, it becomes instinct and a natural awareness after a while. Unless you are just hitting long balls from defense, then that is the only use for it as far as I am concerned, and I would never resort to playing that.

Dont flame me people, that is just my way, and view.

Perfectly valid point from t1000v2.0.
And nonsense by amier who was probably confused about which game we're talking about.

If there's not an option to remove the radar entirely, that's a shame and a error by Konami. Some people like the radar, others don't. It's good to have options. It's also good to get WE in the states after Japan and Europe as most of these oversights normally get ironed out by then.
