NTSC to PAL without cable is it possible?

hi all registerd on here a while back but only just started reading heavily (while at work), was wondering if anyone could answer and tell me if there are any other ways of playing or patching my WE8 NTSC making into PAL?? i havent got one of those cable's mentioned in another thread (and cant afford one till i get paid :( ),i only got the game yesterday and have applied that fernando patch but as you can guess it comes out black and white, i did see a mention after doing a google search that there are "generic" PS2 NTSC into PAL patches in existence but was just wondering if they work and wether if it would work in conjunction with my already (fernando ) patched iso,
thanks in advance and appologys if this has been answerd before now, i can feel the heat of those flames already :p

u can patch it in colour but people have reported that u will experience a good bit of slowdown in the game which altimately ruins the enjoyment somewhat.

It would be interesting if some of the patcher were actually were able to speed up the gameplay (dont know if that's possible) to counter-act the slowdown.

oh yes if u patch it first with the NTSC converter - then apply the Fernando it should be okay. but with obvious slowdown.
