Off-side

I had it a couple of times now that I found myself in a good shooting position while one of my team mates was in the opposition box in an off-side position.

I usually ignore my team mate and try for a shot. The opposition keeper was able to touch the ball with his fingertips. The ball bounces off to my team mate, who was off-side when my shot got launched, and he scores from that situation. The result however is that the goal was not given by the referee because of the previous off-side situation.

Technically the ball was brought back to the game by the opposition keeper so I wonder if this can be qualified as scoring from an off-side position. Nonetheless, I clearly had no intent to involve my team mate in the attack. Disqualifying the goal thus seems to be unfair and makes for annoying gameplay. Was I supposed to let go of a good opportunity to score because my AI-controlled team mate was showing poor positioning play?

Speaking of AI... all the times I had a daft team mate making a forward run all the way OVER the opposition backline. And I wasn't pushing the analogue stick or anything. Just stupid retarted play that I never saw the opposition AI doing.

I agree! As well sometimes the referee should get the off-side decisions wrong and maybe the linesman might want to put his or her flag up in time! Cha man!

Yeh your right, its so annoying when your like 1cm offside and they count it, No one is that accurate!

While I understand people's frustrations with the offside rule being too "perfect", having it any other way would cause other issues in future.

For example, there'd be threads on here with users complaining about the AI "cheating" them because they were "clearly offside" and the assistant ref ignored it. Not to mention being on the bad end of the decision most of the time when playing online.

For me, things like this are best kept the way they are. That being correct.

AI will never capture the reality of a soccer game for the full 100 %. That's why this is just a game. I therefore realize that the concept of "passive off-side" is hard to implement right now. Still, it should be possible to base such a decision on the fact that the ball was touched by the opposition goalkeeper before a team mate scored (as described in my previous post).

If the goalkeeper was able to touch the ball, it proves that you had no intent to involve a team mate in your attack. Another issue is that of the "advantage rule". A player commits a foul and there's reason for the ref to give a free kick. However, the situation can be that the game has developed in an advantageous situation for the "victim" that giving a free kick might jeopardize this advantage. The "perpetrator" thus gets rewarded for his foul. In a real soccer game the ref will apply this advantage rule. But the way things are that would probably be too much asked for an AI ref to make such judgment.

Isn't this a real rule? If the ball is deflected off a player, or goalie saves it, then It's still offside. Unless goalie/player makes a pass to your offside player

I agree with everything said here.

1)But,I have other more annoying thing on my mind, and that thing is that you never see that referee gives advantage if you are attacking and made foul normally he should give advantage and after action passes he should book someone.

2)Second thing is as you have seen many times that AI players touch the ball with hand and now I dont see why referees dont book that??

as someone said this is a real rule that can be observed in real matches.

The problem i have with offside in pes, is players who arent actively involved causing offside. or lobbing the keeper and scoring counting as offside because someone no where near the play is offside.

If someone is miles offside and no where near play, but the ball doesn't reach anywhere near them and isntead goes to the opponent defender, there is no reason to stop play.
