Everything seems to be perfect except the gameplay.

There are new modes, the graphics are tons better, the advertising is brilliant......

but.....

It's the just the gameplay that isn't up there with it.
Players don't feel unique any more and the play is extremely sluggish, plus, "referee's still being as awful" as "Tevez is handsome". All the players are extremely cumbersome and feel like defenders and then i realised (whilst playing with Italy) that Buffon had as much dribbling skill and control as some of the midfielders! (or at least tha's what it felt like). I am a traditional Master League player and even though some people objected to the gameplay in PES2008, i felt the variety in players was sublime! You knew as soon as Castolo picked up the ball or a retarded Libermann, but now they all feel the same!

Hey, i'm still buying PES2009, but i feel they have put way too much work into the new modes instead of making the gameplay what it should be, which is a million miles better than FIFA.

Good luck to PES2009, but it just could've been SOOOOOO much better.

Cheers,
Carlos

Does anyone agree with me here? i've heard bits and bobs about whether some bits are lacking, but i just feel PES has lost it's uniqueness in both the format and with the players.

Cheers.

Sort of... I think it is a lil too early for me to pass judgment on the gameplay considering I have only played a handful of games so far. Every PES is diferent and takes a few games to get the hang of. So don't give up just yet.

I've just played this for the first time, and I can honestly say I don't like it. It feels too heavy and slow for my liking. I got sent off early for a challenge which wasn't even worthy of a yellow card :realmad:. The graphics are good though.
Some people think the fact that PES09 is heavy and slow makes it more realistic. No it doesn't.

I also agree with you. They should make the game a bit more quicker and responsive, like PES6 on the PS2.

The shooting system needs a revamp too.

Just how I am with FIFA. :fplm:
FIFA fails in every way possible. I too am trying to like it but just can't.

Totally agree on the shooting system. It was much better on last year's version.

Is it just me?
No one has the same problem?

What's the point of having replays, if they go 10x faster than actual gameplay?!

I'm considering it a bug, not a feature...

Found a solution:

Disabling V-sync allows the replays and dead balls to be displayed at a "normal" speed...

As a backside, there's a lot of flickering during normal play... which was unexistant... obviously because of v-sync...

I was playing at 1440x900 16:9 LB...

Gonna try some different resolutions, to see if it happens on all...

Disappointed with the demo, i started to come around to the idea that pes might make it back this year but not with this demo, how heavy and weird sounding is the damn ball. Animations seem a bit robotic at times aswell, only thing going for it for me is the facial graphics. BIG letdown.

Just tried the game on 1024x768 and the wide camera is almost on top of the pitch...

Also the game seems a lot faster... and I mean a lot....

Has anyone tried this sort of things?

SOLUTION FOUND!!!!!!

Enabling FRAME SKIPPING along with V-Sync, solves the replay and dead ball problem, allowing to keep the v-sync so I don't have the flickering issue.

I really like the demo,

two major gripes - the computer defenders commit poor slide tackles often conceding penalties and getting red cards for you - this is ridiculous, and has happened to me 4-5 times in the ~20 games I have played.

I'm also not sure that I like the computer players scoring for you, the PC has scored for me twice, one header and one turn and finish by robbie keane as liverpool. Just didn't feel like I earned them, instead of scoring for me why can't the auto-switching system override and give me the player who has the ball?

Last disappointment was that I was immediately winning comfortably on top player , I hope they improve the AI for the retail release.

Overall though I really like the demo, they didn't change much but they struck a great balance in the gameplay. With some polishing it could be a solid release, and for some (stupid) reason I'm holding out hope that the netcode for online play won't be complete crap, but Konami has given me no reason to believe that.

This demo is truly awful.

I can find very little to like about it. It doesn't even feel like the great Pro Evo of old. It's a stiff, clunky, dated experience, and it looks and feels too similar to PES2008.

This will be the second year I don't buy PES after a decade of loyalty to the series. Fifa 09 looks and plays a full generation ahead of this disgrace of a game. Konami should be ashamed and embarrassed.:realmad:

I kinda hated the demo at first...couldn't score, couldn't tackle and i found it hard (probably because i played too much PES 08) But after a few games of getting used to it, I believe that this demo is great!! I was soon scoring 25 yard screamers with Ronaldo. The real game will be amazing!

OK. I have discovered that trying to do defensive headers is suicide. Evra somehow managed, when completely unmarked, to power one past Van Der Sar.

I must admit it's starting to feel like a proper new PES now, in that its frustrating the living crap outta me. And you can definitely feel the scripting in there as SO many "50-50s" (which I also count as balls that SHOULD fall to me) fall to the opposition.

Oh, and the full backs STILL don't make proper overlapping runs!!! When Man United are playing all-out attack I should NOT have to play a one-two with patrice Evra to get him to overlap! It's bloody ridicululous!

Still love it to bits, but starting to pick up on some of the flaws.

Yeah, the Old R2 "one-two" move haves many flaws.. One of them is the FACT that when the Situation doesn't requires a "one two" -you- don't have Any button for simply setting up runs, you don't have any Alternative to the "pass and move".

That is one of the Few things that I actually liked about FIFA, you pressed the R1 button and players started making Attacking runs -whereas- in PES you cannot do that, I fail to understand WHY Konami still have not introduced a Variation to the Old R2 "pass and move".

With Next Gen Consoles we should start seeing Improvement in this Aspect, Attacking (Tactical) Runs are very important -and- as such, we should have more Variations.

The full backs are uncontrollable. They attack much more than I wish and the wingers are more defensive minded. There have many occasions in each game where the full-back has been ahead of the winger when in possession. Even changing the wingers' roles from side midfielder to attacking midfielder doesn't seem to do the trick. It's useful when attacking, but I don't require it. Counter-attacking is much easier.

The goalkeepers are worse than PES2008. They concede at their front post way too easily. Their positional sense it poor.

Apart from those two aspects of the game, I love it. You have to be much more creative to score, rather than passing it to a super-wicked player and letting him run to the byline and cutting it back. Like someone said earlier, even though some players' long distance shots are light and floaty, the true strikers of the ball can hit fierce shots. I scored a beauty with Henry from about 25 metres.

If the goalkeepers are improved, then I'd be satisfied.

Why don't you just set the A/D levels to defensive and then change your tactics to counter attack. This way the full backs are more likely to stay back and defend.

Just a suggestion :)

I've tried all that (arrows going back), but they still go forwards more than I desire. I even changed team tactics to C, so the defence stay deep, but nothing. It's not too much of a problem, but I would prefer to have more control.

Yeah i do know what you mean. I find Evra attacking more than Ronaldo but at least it gives more support to strikers.

Shooting is also not quite right. I'll probably adjust but its taking alot longer than before. I mean I've been through on goal a number of times just to hit the post, hit the bar, or miss entirely.

And corners are another gripe. They seem to be very easy to concede but harder than ever to score, mainly because the computer gives me control of a player who is miles away from being able to challenge for the ball!

PS. VDS just made the worlds greatest cock up. I passed it back to him and as he came towards the ball I had the circle button so he would hoof it upfield. What does he do instead? In acres of space he slides towardsthe ball as if trying to hook it out for a corner. The ball bounces off his studs...into the path of Fernando Torres. You can guess what happened next.
