Official PS2 Magasine Preview PES6

Just bought the September Official PS2 Magasine and in there was a preview of PES6 and a review of FIFA 07.
For info, FIFA 07 got a 13/20.

Regarding PES6, they played the latest version available (not the final version) and question were still to be answered on which licences will be available in the final version.

Regarding gameplay, they compare it to WE10.
The said that they were a bit scared after playing WE10 and previous version of PES6 that PES was heading toward arcade style (Poor Keeper, Play too fast, poor defense...).
But from the latest version, all went back to normal:
-Pace has been slowed down from WE10
-Animations are unbelievable (control, volley, chain animations are smooth). They said 'sometimes it feel like you are not playing a game'
-Keepers and Defenders are back to form. Keepers block shots when they should. Defender can be put out of position, but they will come back to chase you. They are also well positionned so you will have to build your attack to get scoring opportunities (no more easy dribbling like in WE10).
That was a big relief for them!
-Defender can be put out of position, but they will come back to chase you.
-A new change of pace system has been implemented, idea taken from FIFA, so by the change of pace you can get past defender.
-Dribbling system has been enhanced and new dribble are in to get past defender in close place.

To sum up, PES 6 should keep the dynamic feeling from WE10, but focusing on a true simulation feeling.
They said that it should be the last PES on current gen, and it will be awesome.

Maybe i'll post scan of the preview, but it'll be in french...

Forgot the referees ! It has been confirmed that they will stop whistling every 5 seconds.

At least 10 new animations have been included when a player fall down after a contact.

Quick free kick can be played using L1+R1 and analogic stick to give the direction of the kick.

I can't wait! I hope they improve PES as IMO PES5 has been a deception for me, i get bored and it never had happened to me in previous versions of PES.

And please post the scans!

Thank you so much Stephen for your effort. I was worried after watching a video in Youtube.com, i thought that the gameplay is a little bit fast. But you cooled me down.......Thanks

That is a relief. I think its often the case, though, that the early Pro Evo vids always cause concern. They normally look too fast, and the people playing in them are invariably shit so it doesn't make the game look so impressive.

Cheers mate for the translation of the review. My only concern from the videos is/was defensive positioning, as it seems that the defenders run straight towards a moving player so obviously as they get closer the player just runs by them when they should be cutting off space and forcing the player inside or to the corner depending on their position on the field at the time. Hopefully this will be addressed come release date.

If this is true then I'm along with other WE10-fanatics incredibly relieved. The ball was like a magnet everytime a player with half-decent dribbling stats got the ball. It was silly, every match there were moments similar to that of Giggs' in the '99 final. It was unrealistic for it to happen so very often.

I'm completely overjoyed about the keepers if they are indeed fixed, as they were the worst Konami has ever made. I don't actually think they made them, they were seemingly just stick graphical men stood on top of the goal-line. And for some reason sprinted out like a blind lunatic whenever an opposing player got within 5 yards of the box, deciding to not challenge and let them walk past was even more infuriating to say the least.

However I've heard mixed reviews about PES6, some saying the keepers are still the same old tripe as of WE10 and others like above stating they've been vastly improved. Confused in all honesty.

also, we don't know what level the game is played on in those videos. they could be playing they game on one or two star and thats why the defence is poor

Regarding keepers, in the article, they said that were a bit worry because in the last test version they played, they were awful.
Then they said that it's not the case anymore in the latest version they played and that the amount of work done by Konami since the last beta version was incredible.

I'll try to scan the article tomorrow, and post it then. Then will be able to practice your French :D

I also saw something about automatic tactics, but i'm not sure if i saw it in the PES6 preview or in the FIFA 07 review
Nevertheless, they said that you could set automatic tactic on, and then if set, then computer will deal automatically with substitution in tactical situation. For example, if your team lose 1-0 and end of the game is coming, computer will remove a defensive midfielder and substitute it with a attacker (will also change the formation from a 442 to a 433 for example). I'll check that tonight.

Hmmm......not so sure i like the sound of that. It sounds very FIFA-ish to me, so perhaps its a FIFA 07 'innovation'.

No, I do not think so. Fifa has no tactics in their series, so what innovation do you meam?

Exactly, FIFA has no tactics so perhaps its now done automatically. It's quite difficult for a 5-year-old to make a substitution, you know?;)

Just saying i'm not keen on this feature being in PES6.

Sounds realy good,but I want a demo...NOW!!!
It sounds REALY strange, but I played PES5 demo(didnt have what to do and installed it to see what it was before the release) and it was WAY more fluid and fast(but not arcade)??!!I am not sure if this is true, but the demo feels diff from the game so a demo is not a factor for the final release, but I want one for PES6 to cool down...

It is in WE10, it will do the starting lineup etc, then during the game it will make subs and change formation depending on the result. After the first few seasons I go in to a fixed career mode, so this is good addition for me, as I set everything to automatic and take it as it falls.

It will also make suggestions on what formation to play, or you can set a criteria and it will form one from that too.

There are elements of FIFA spilling in to pes (not the best parts though), what is the Achivements all about, that is straight from FIFA.

I'm not so sure I believe that article. I've played the beta version and the keepers are still rubbish. RobMcLean's played a more up to date version this week and the keepers are still rubbish in that!
