Premature analysis of Winning Eleven 7
Before relating my first impressions concerning the game, I would like to clarify that I haven’t tested a lot from the game, which is due to the simple fact that it is in Japanese. I do not have time for a big review, therefore I will divide the text into different sections.
Gameplay (most important it is not?): Ok, very superior to the one found in PES 2 and significantly superior to the one of WE6FE. The response of the players is sublime, its behaviour in the pitch is much more real and natural. The section that was submitted to the biggest improvements was without a doubt the shots – now players kick without leaving the ball to reach the soil and the animation of this moves is indeed sublime. The game has at least two new feints (the feints can now be made with the right stick) but, in contrast to FIFA, only the most endowed technical will be able to execute them correctly. For example, if Nesta from Milan do the move, most certain will be that he will leave it behind. The gameplay is sufficiently superior but still not flawless. Some bugs occurs occasionally, but with a sufficiently lesser frequency that in the previous version.
Artificial intelligence: Sufficiently superior, mainly to defend, pressuring sufficiently more and withdrawing when necessary. Another remarkable change is the way as the CPU pass the ball, sometimes executing beautiful plays.
Referee: The series have also evolved here. The faults occur with a sufficiently bigger regularity, and exist in a must bigger number (hand-balls, pushes, etc.). The referee can now let the play continues if the ball is it under the faulted team, being the gamer notified when this occurs through a symbol that appears in superior left corner of the screen.
Graphs: Much more polished, a lot of new animations and a great application of them. Simply magnificent. The menus are also very cool and are extremely User Friendly with a futuristic look (excluding the language, of course).
Players: Great part is actualized, even so still isn’t all of them. The similarities of the famous players are magnificent, while of the others are acceptable. In terms of stats, the intention of the Konami in approaching the game to reality is notable (I only find that the Deco from FC Porto and Quaresma and Ronaldinho from Barcelona could be better).
Edit: It is possible to edit national teams, clubs and players, such as in the previous version. However, it was with great satisfaction that I noticed in the brutal increase of options available. For example, it is possible to modify the mouth, the eyes, the nose, the chin and also its size of all this things.
Options: A brutal amount of options was enclosed in this version, but I cant say mutch about this. To only detach that it is possible to change the players of the national teams. About the rumor that suggests that it is possible to unlock an option to transfer players (allowing to update rosters), I cannot confirm it, but it seems very possible.
Modes: Equal to the previous ones, even so it includes the excellent option to initiate a league of national teams (as always) OR clubs, what it is excellent, mainly because we initiate with equips proper roster and not with the one of the Master League. The Master League was still not tested by me, however already I noticed that it is divided in four leagues (North, South, East, West) and that each one of these leagues possess one second division.
Generality: Still I have a lot to see, but WE7 seems to have evolved sufficient, even so still lacks from more official teams ands licences, and from an Online play mode.
9/10
Hope this review clarify some doubts. If someone have any question, just ask that I will answer.
I am a reporter for the Portuguese PSM2 mag (yes, a “sister” for the English one), and we will receive a preview version of PES3 this week, if you have any question, just ask.
