Ok 1080i or 720p?

Theoretically 1080i. It's a resolution level. More horizontal lines drawn. At 720p, the hardware has to fill the gaps if your TV can display at higher res.

It's to do with the way the screen 'draws' the image. If memory serves, "i" draws alternate lines, "p" draws each line in sequence.

"p" to all intents should look smoother, although there are issues with images moving at speed. Some TV's can cope with this better than others.

Unless you've got a TV over 30" you'll be unlikely to see the difference.

If you have a big TV capable of 1080p, then use 720p. If your tv does 1080i, then use that.

Yep. use the highest you can. Tv's with "i" as the highest res tend to be geared towards displaying interlaced images, so yeah, use "i".

Not even sure what my TV does. I know it's running 720p at the mo cause it says it in the corner when I turn it on. Will have a look when I finish work to see if it 1080i or 1080p!! (got a 32" LCD TV)

I read somewhere that the difference between 1080 i and p is so small the human eye cant see it...but i've also read that on big screens 1080i can be blurred when playing fast moving games

Although a waste of time at present as most games will only display to 720p or 1080i.

Ah well, one day ;)

Many games support 1080P on the 360. They say it on the box. Suppported resolution:
720P, 1080i and 1080P.

Many games on the ps3 say its 720p but they can be played/upscaled to 1080p

Dont believe what it says on the box , GTA 4 on the ps3 plays at 1080p but is nowhere near that resolution really it isnt even 720p its something like 620p on all formats

the only game thats true 1080p is wipEout HD at the moment although when the gameplay gets hectic it dips to 1640p still twice 720p to keep the 60fps rate

wipeout aint the only game. Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Virtua Tennis 3 to name a couple. This list is outdated and most of the games really suck

BTW GTA IV on the 360 is rendered at 720P. Also, for example I couldn't play some games on 1080P and on the box they only said 720P or 1080i. Many games are rendered at 720P at the moment.

Thats my point , they say they're 1080p on the box like ut3 but they're not with the exception of wipeout hd most of those game will run slightly higher than 720p so for a marketing point of view they fire 1080p on the box to fool you even though the rez is closer to 720p

It's more a case of being able to be upscaled to 1080p...
