[Only Sminkys] Killzone 3 Appreciation Thread

Oy, Sminkerton... I nearly bought Killzone 3 in Asda, pre-owned. Cheeky twats still wanted £35 for it though. Is it really that good?

Plus, (and stop me if I have already asked this) does it have split screen, offline co-op?

It is damn good but I wouldn't buy a pre-owned game for £35 mate. Wait for a while and it'll come down in price.

Yep, you certainly can play offline split screen mate.

Don't worry, the price was the reason it was 'nearly' purchased :smug:

Cool on the co-op, cheers bud.

Aye, there's a couple of co-op trophies too. They made the trophies a LOT easier this time. I had platinum on the last game, so I may go for it again on this.

Must say, disappointed with the campaign overall. It was fun and challenging, but that last battle was crap, and in no way compares to the Radec battle in the last game, which was fucking tough on elite!! It was also incredibly short! Took me less than 5hrs to complete!

Got this a few days ago, started the single player campaign and liking it so far! The graphics are stunning!

Add me if you haven't got me, maybe we could have a match sometime?

Yep, practice. Not done much run 'n' gun for a while, not exactly Fallout tempo is it?

Left For Dead 2 was the last 'speedy' shooter I played...

Reflexes and trigger finger practice will be handy against the hardcore Killzone players for sure, there are some deadeye shooters on that game.

I dipped into online for the first time last night. My experiences were mixed.
First of all, I don't like that it randomly finds me a match, I preferred the system in Killzone 2. The first matches I tried to played were just regular deathmatches (or whatever they call it on this game). I tried 3 times, and each time it gave me a match with just 1 other person in it. So I went onto the next mode, did manage to find a game. I didn't do too great to be honest.

The new lobby system is garbage, not being able to pick your game room is farcical. Although that hardly compares to them removing faction balancing. I've been in games where its been 10 against 1 or 10 against 2. Its absurd, people drop out from game to game and it doesn't balance the sides. I joined a game where it was me versus 8 members of one clan! I racked up a couple of kills and fucked off out the game!

Can appreciate why some people enjoy this. Decent graphics, nice pace to the single player (especially the first level through the city) and a good 'feel' to the weaponry. the mini semi-auto silenced sniper thing you get at the beginning of the second level is just awesome in scope mode, very handy even when spotted. The rifles are a bit average, but some of the heavy weaponry packs a punch & the pistols ect for small arms are diverse enough to make them fun to use.

The stealth kills/melee's look great, but I think I'll have to reconfigure the controls to be more useful. Crouch & melee on the left side just doesn't work for me. Nor does primary fire on R1.

The 360 controller is also just so much better for 1st person shooters...

Brutal melees are quality, its amusing watching people legging it after people just to get a brutal melee. Often someone else is chasing them, a daisy chain of brutal melee attacks :D

Just finished the single player mode. :hmm: It's not exactly long. Some great set pieces, decent toys & I loved some of the vehicle sections, especially the off rails ones. Still... that said, I have definitely played more involving titles. The characters are annoying more than likeable & the lip synch if frankly shite, which is a shock considering the rest of the games graphical prowess.

Oh, and the ending... let's just say; Killzone 4 is on the way.

I've not really dipped into the first player campaign, the main selling point of this game is the online mode. Which I assume you'll be frequenting in the future?

Maybe, maybe not. I am as yet undecided. The main reason I purchased it was for the offline co-op, after all.

Can't hurt ... can it ... to let me kill you continuously? ;)

EDIT: 3,300th post in 10 months. "Hello. Nurse? Yes I'll have my medication now"

 guess not. Having experience of the maps will no doubt work in your favour... as will my rustiness of having not played an online shooter since the Battlefield on my old PS3 before it died.

I shall make a concerned effort to get on this week, probably Thursday night now though.
