Well after buying a 40gig PS3 complete with PES2008 yesterday I assumed that my PES career was about to move up to a new high.

PS2 had gone on Ebay along with 2 Mem cards complete with 2 excellent OF files from this site.

3 Games in and on 28" wide screen PAL TV I was ready to run back to game and trade down back to PS2. Picture not sharp, gameplay odd etc etc etc

Then..... just like last year it twigged, Scholes appeared from no where to equalise in stoppage time, Rooney holds off defenders like only he can and Ronaldo glides past defenders but gets caught when he over does it. Gerrard blast shots like only he can.

PES2008 is a marked improvement, need HD to get the best now on PS3 but they have made it even more realistic, you have to think, pick teams carefully, change play style and work for a goal.

Too much moaning on this site, PES 2008 is a winner, just need a decent OF now, online to get straight and it's another 12 months of trying to beat the bl00dy thing!!!!!

Not looking for a reply was just getting fed up with all the negative stuff being said.

Spot on. I don't know what all the moanings about, we all know the games never been perfect. It's always been about the gameplay and the subtle changes every year (as the title suggests "evolution"). Improvements don't always hit you immediately but after a few matches you start to see some clever touches that make the game even more realistic. Who cares about no premier league licence, no tilt camera, rubbish kit editing etc. When you've got gameplay as amazing as this the rough edges don't matter so much. I'd rather they spent less time on unecessary features and concentrate on the gameplay mainly, unlike FIFA which does it the other way round.

You guys can´t be serious!! How can you not see the incredible slowdowns? The game runs like PC games normally do when you have a 3 year old machine and playing on full details except you have a brand new PS3 and this shit shouldn´t be possible!!!! Wake up guys

slow downs have subsided since installing. the game is great but there is yet an option file that will give you more than 8 kits which is to put it lightly PISS POOR!!!!!

'Moaning'? I think it's justified. Slowdowns, no decent edit mode, likelyhood of not having the possiblity for a decent option file, online is a joke, 2 player leagues not possible to play as opposition. OK, fine the gameplay is a marked improvement... but it's stupid losing half the features from PES6 on the next gen.

Everyone knows all the slowdown issue and online will be fixed, it has to be! Also, the option file is on its way...

I just got the P3 verison here at the US. Had a friend ship it to me. As long as the gameplay is there Im happy and any improvement upon it is even better :).

I bet that the US version will have most of the problems sorted out though. I just couldnt wait though.

You know what? i had to add my opinion as it has changed since buying the game on Friday.
First up the first few matches i played it just didn't feel right, and that was largely due to every game i played it averaged at least 4 goals game(pro level) and it felt more like fifa!
so after the huge disappointment and first impression i actually couldn't bring myself to play it for a day or so, but i thought yesterday i would give it another go.

Master league it was then, and low and behold what happens, something that can only happen in pro evo, a close loss 1-0 to Birmingham by an own goal! and a scrappy match that was hard fought tooth and nail to the end which included an immense scramble in the box with the ball bounding everywhere as only in pro evo!
This alone perked me up as the initial fifa feel of goals, goals, goals had gone, real football was back!

Still theres no getting over the awful edit mode (360) and stripped down features, this bad taste will always linger, which is difficult to take as pes6 (ps2) was as near perfect as the previous gen could get!
Whats bizarre is other than the gamplay, the actual game feels like its gone back in time to when pes was in its infancy on ps2, you know never has the next gen felt so old when games features are cut to compensate for shiny lubed up players!

lol, its like all previous pes games never existed and we are back to square one, so maybe in what? 3,4 years time we will have the near perfect next gen pes, which wont matter because the next gen (ps4/540)will be on the horizon with its new and improved pes to come........still it will do for now

that was the old fifa, and btw in PES6 me and my friends used to bash eachother in most of the matches with incredible scores like 6-5 and 7-3 and so. Fifa07 had the same prob, but with 08, when they slowed down the gameplay and made a few tweaks here and there, matches rarely end up with more than 3 goals. i've played about 10 online matches and 10 offline on professional. PES2008's gameplay is nice and enjoyable but it's not what you'd expect it to be. They should make groundbreaking improvements for groundbreaking new systems that's all.

yeh i agree i mean the last fifa game i played (rented) was i think 05 and that wasnt loads of goals but it was easy to score, a bit like my first impression of pes08, and as far as the high scores go against mates on pes6, i have had the same but only rarely, mainly it was 1-1 and to penalties or 2-1 close games because both our defenses were solid, maybe yours wernt? lol

actually i play a very tough defence, with 4 CB and no SB that go upfront, 1 dedicated dmf and 2 wingers that go back and forth. People usually find it hard to score a goal in my team but my friends and i are hardcore fans, we play and finish about 3 ( 6 player league) per week and we've been doing that for the last 6 years. So we get to find all the possible bugs and use them to our advantage, plus i got a friend who plays with 4 CFs and usually beats the hell out of us.
