Penalties

How do you hit soft, placed penalties? I'm only playing the demo so I would have only had about 3 or 4 penalties so far. But even when I tap the shoot button very quickly the penalty is still shot like a rocket. I tried pressing other buttons but they didn't work. :(

Damn, a couple of chip penalties would be nice - (double tap square, or holding L1/R2 with Square), a stuttering run-up to fake a keeper and place it, or a sprint for extra power but less accuracy.

And with new FIFA rulings, keepers should be able to move along the lines during the player's run up - one for the next version of the beautiful game.

I tend to place it the same side as the players dominant foot.

I don't usually worry about finding the corner unless Banks is in goal for Classic England.

I think once you hit Square, you have to guide the ball gently with the Left Analogue stick (so Up+Left = top-left corner).

I've never bothered too much, but I would if there were more variety for penalty takers and keepers.

"has anyone seen the fifa 2004 penaltys?

Don't tell me, the player emits glitter as he pulls off another special move? I left that series when they added the glitter - FIFA 2000 or thereabouts.

Back and to the left.
don't hit any button and the player will take the shot straight down the middle so if the keeper dives you've put it in.

i'm not so keen on the Fifa peno's. but i do know one game where they are good.............

VIRTUA STRIKER!! VIRTUA STRIKER!! VIRTUA STRIKER!!
they were excellent, power bars, aim one way, hit the ball the other!! hit the ball at any part of the goal! they are still excellent!

I haven't seen the fifa pens.. but the PES ones are pretty crap... there needs to be more room for error from the kicker to cap off this beautiful simulation

the fifa pens are good because you can choose the amount of power you want. apart from teams and liscenses, thats the only thing that is better lol

the fifa pens are the best, u aim where you want to put it then u have a power bar. So u can whack one in the top corner with loads of power, or u can place it in the bottom corner with not much power.

Well it's a bit stupid then. Maybe realistic for players like Shearer and Van Nistelrooy, but not for players like Figo, Beckham, Henry etc.

But I swear I've seen the computer hit soft, rolling penalties with Totti and some other players... or that might be my imagination.

And also, I remember playing ISS 98 (I think) and unless I was dreaming, when taking penalties they had these boxes moving from right to left, showing where the goalkeeper was going to dive. I think a simple point and shoot is better though, but it's frustrating at how all of the penalties are powered in.

I just hold down on the left stick(pull it towards me) and tap square and it seems to just roll in. You can also aim to the left or right but I've found if you go down the middle it goes in about 9 times out of ten.

I tried a few in tournament shoot-outs last night. Does R2 (while holding down and either left or right - depending on the player's dominant foot) lift the ball slightly, about half way up the height of the goal?

:D

Reverse, reverse psychology! You must be as cunning as a fox.

I press these buttons, in this order:

[edited for troublesome smileys, that should have been buttons]

It does a moonwalk, then back-heels it off the goalie's head and in. Works every time.

penalties are crap cos if u get one u know ure almost bound to score. there should be some margin 4 error and more options when in goal too.perhaps a power bar so u can sky it or hit it too softly

I agree, pens could be a wee bit better, but as I never win any (one in 2 seasons of Div 1 footy) it aint really a problem!!!

to hit a soft peno, hold down with the direction e.g. bottom right corner, hold the directional buttons diagonally right-downwards
