Performance issue, help is appreciated

Hello people,
I have a weird performance problem with PES2010 (the PC Demo)

When I play the game, it's like every 2 seconds the game pauses for a tiny fraction of a second... and the resulting gameplay is choppy.

My puter should support the game just fine...
- intel core i7 920
- 6gb DDR3
- nvidia geforce 9800GT 512mb

For some odd reason, the "use vertical sync" option in the game is grayed out, so I forced v-sync from the nvidia control panel specific to that game. (the same thing I had to do with PES2009, except 2009 works fine).

I'm on Windows 7, but I can't see how that will cause this problem since the nvidia drivers are for win7.

I also tried different resolutions, and dropped the game quality to LOW - but it doesn't seem to change anything for the better.

Anyone has any idea on how can I play the game free of lags?
Thank you!

Well considering I'm on the same processor as you, also have 6GB DDR3 and am using Windows 7 x64, the issues are not there. I don't believe it is your graphics card's capabilities either - I'm using an ATi Radeon HD 4870 so can't test yours out precisely at this end but its clearly a good enough card.

I assume you've got the latest drivers installed? I'm certain the issue lies somewhere in the settings of your graphics card. Instead of forcing any settings via the nVidia Control Panel I would allow application settings to overrule. Can you confirm the issue persists at 640x480 on low detail?

Thanks for the quick reply, Don.

Yes, I have the latest nvidia drivers for win7 64bit.
It does persist at 640x480 on low detail, but it seems there is a bit less hang-time..

I've looked for a Mac version of the Demo to test it out, but couldn't find any. If there is and I didn't search well, please inform me.

I'll also try to let the application set the v-sync rate, but since the v-sync option is grayed out on the PES2010 settings, I will probably get a line running on the screen, but I'll check if there is no hang-time between certain frames anymore and I'll report my findings.

Thanks again.
