Very good although the slower gameplay takes time to get used to. Improvements have been made and its a HIT! :D

Slower gameplay???

LOL

ure system aint running the game proper...u are one of them pain in the arse noobs that have the game dragging all over the shop online which makes me disconnect, lose points, and tally up an unhealthly d/c ratio.

Take it from someone running the game on a decent system....PES2008 is far from slow..it is the fastest PES game ever and plays like a game of fucking pin-ball.

Yes..improvements have been made.......I particularly liek the improvement that they have made where when you are chasing a breakign striker and you switch defenders, the defender you switch to always takes a step back from the striker b4 u get control of him...nice touch that eh?

.......happens in real life as well....Englands defending tonight as a prime example!

thankyou...48% at least half the people in here are all there, how can this not be the best ever PES, its got fast attractive gampelay, put still the PES engine, you control everything its a simulation cross arcade now, the perfect game in my opinion i would give it 98/100 only due to the license and kit issues...

FORZA PES 2008!!!

es un gran gran gran Game!!!

I blue myself
I voted miss again because I hate it so much.

Bingo. I played it solidly, despite my hatred from the outset, for over a week, trying to make myself love it, all to no avail. It freezes all the damn time, the game play is sluggish, frame rate and certain camera angles are utterly pathetic, and the cutbacks in various options and features combine to form a game that, to my mind, Konami should be ashamed of.

I tried playing PES online on the PS3 earlier today and it was abysmal. Ended up 5-2 down and I just quit the game due to being so irate at the game and how hard it was to keep track of the ball/players. Offline isn't too great either. The ML just get's me mad every game I play as it's so hard to defend (especially corners and free kicks), with even mediocre players seeming to have the dribbling ability and close control parallel to someone like Messi or Ronaldinho. However, playing other people on PES (offline) is brilliant, probably the most fun of all the PES's. I played one game offline where I won 6-4, where the game was real end-to-end stuff. 1-0 down, 1-1, 2-1 down, 2-2, 3-2 down just before HT. Back to 3-3 straight from kick off in 2nd half, 4-3 up, 5-3 up, 5-4 up, 6-4 up. Was certainly the best game I've played on any PES. The other games I played were also very enjoyable. This doesn't make up for the rubbish online mode and playing v computer though.

Don't you find high scoring games gay though? That's why I hate this game, it's too arcadey! I don't mind a high scoring game once & a while but PES 2008 takes the piss.

I prefer high scoring games when playing with mates as it's fun, especially when you're winning by the big margins :smug: I know what you mean by it being too arcadey though, and after a while it'll probably get on my nerves a bit. I seem to remember PES4 online being a bit like that, well I remember getting my best ever score against someone else on it (Werder Bremen 12-0 Lecce  ) The online service for the PC was probably the best there's been too, mainly cos it wasn't administered by konami (as far as I can remember) Was some program you had to download off some site (pes4launcher). Konami never really matched it.

Naw man.....them scores....bet 8/10 of the goals were fucking horrible....the kind that drag this game into the gutter as far as more discerning gamers are concerned.

For me on the PC, the games only saving grace is that the offline game is ok cos the CPU aint relentlessy trying to dribble right thru your defense and walk the ball into the net or cut it back for easy goal all the fucking time.

Playing the offline game makes me think what a promising game PES2008 is shaping up to be as soon as they get around to replacing this fucking beta they are charging everyone £30 for and actually releasing the finished title.

Amongst various other little unpleasant gameplay foibles, it is the two player game that destroys PES2008 for most folk I reckon including myself. There are now more effective cheat modes of playing than ever before that you would have to be insane to try anything half creative and interesting if you are actually interested in winning, For me, and many others, this ruins the game and half of my mates have actually converted to FIFA.....I haven't tho....I am waiting on Sensible Soccer online coming out.

Mat, I'm sorry to tell you that PES 2008 single player is too damned easy and not much fun if you're a decent player (and not much fun if you're not decent, as the CPU gets to score a gazillion goals per match). Low scores are rare, and I usually win by a bulky margin, or with results such as 5-4, 7-6, etc.

I've scored TONS of last minute winning goals. I know it was pointed out that this was an easy thing to do in PES due to the AI lending a helping hand in extra time, but in this year's version it's way too evident.

It's not a good game overall, leave alone realistic. However, there is a spark of genius in this PES that wasn't there in previous editions. I can't put my finger on it, but sometimes, in some plays or moves, the game becomes awe inspiring for a split second. I guess it's the way the game flows together with the perfect animations, or maybe something good in the new ball physics. It's a very rare feeling, and not nearly enough to salvage the wreckage that is the rest of the game, but at least it gives me hope. Now if they would only get off their arses and do something with the game, that'd be terrific. Till then... it's a MISS.

.

That all depends on how you want to play the game mate....Against human opposition, I resort to exploiting the game just as the opposition is exploiting against me. But against the CPU, I am not interested in running 100 zig zags and performing 20 270 degree turns inside the 18 yard box until a certain goal opportunity arise. Against the CPU, I play experimentaly and try to get from the game the genius that it does have on offer should the player wish to take it. My scorelines with AC Milan in Italian League are quite realistic over the 15 min games I play on TOP PLAYER.

I realise that most people are getting rugby scores on 2 player PES2008, but the scorelines I have playing mulitplayer are realistic as well mostly due to the formation I play with in order to counter the lame exlpoit dribblers. I can play Barca Arseholes online with %70 + win rates and the scoreline will rarely have more than 3 goals in it with 1-0, 1-1, or 2-1 being by far the most common results. (Unless I get disconnected by MSN, Firewall, Virus Checker.....ord/c myself due to bad game performance inlicted on me by opponent with shite PC and web connection)

But hey...the game is still a total Miss.....my only consolation is that I decided to take my original copy back to the store, so at least Konami havent robbed me.

You're misjudging me. I'm a possession player. I like to have lots of possession and make lots of passes. I'm all for beautiful plays, I don't like to zigzag through the defense or consider dribbling the entire defense then scoring "a nice goal". I don't even buy players who have too much dribbling and speed, but rather go for positioning, passing, reaction and strength. My top scorer is just very good at shooting and heading, not fast nor very bright at dribbling. But the game's still too easy :(

I'm still really undecided about this version, for a start I have the ps2 version so I wasn't expecting miracles but I just can't help but feel after nearly a month of playing the game that there is a distinct lack of effort from Konami to raise the bar higher than PES6, the day I purchased the game my mate said to me that it was no different to the previous version , but being the die hard Pro Evo fan I am told myself that surely i'll notice some differences and to be fair I have but not enough to make me feel as though 30 odd quid was well spent!

The computor has definitely become harder to face on the higher level, and although the football they play is very direct and unrealistic im quietly happy about having to work for wins in Master League mode.

Edit mode is a real let down for me, it may just be me being blind but im sure they have got rid of hundreds of hairstyles that were on the last game , call me picky but I did enjoy editing players in detail which now has become less possible!

Furthermore the stadium atmospheres for Premiership clubs has still not been captured, when the fuck do flares get let off in England????

Maybe its the fact that i haven't yet found a club on the game that I enjoy playing with, once I have found a team that suits me and I can play realistic football with I suppose i'll grit my teeth and see if the game grows on me but until then im a little let down...

p.s would be ace if people pointed out what console they have for their game would help me to see what im missing or not ....

Seabass: "We thought about delaying PES 2008"
Posted on November 23rd, 2007 at 04:51 EDT

The man behind the Pro Evolution Soccer series, Shingo "Seabass" Takatsuka has admitted that PES2008 wasn't up to the standards they hoped when it was released.

The game, plagued by problems ranging from lag to missing features, was released on time back in October, but Konami have since provoked rumours that a patch may be released to counter the game's problems, as previously reported on PSU.

But in an interview with PSM3 Magazine, Seabass admitted: "We never wanted to release PES 2008 in this state on PS3.

"In fact, we thought about delaying it but different factors meant we had to [release it]."

Although Seabass didn't elaborate on these factors, it may have been related to the success of fierce rival series FIFA, and the further potential loss in sales to EA Sports' popular game had the game been delayed.

"It's so far away from what we wanted. As a developer, we've worked the same way since the days of SNES. We're simply not set up for multi-platform development."

And despite the fact that the next-gen version of PES has been in development for 2008, the pressures of developing for the PS3, PS2, PSP, Xbox 360 and PC seems to have taken its toll.

The game arrived with huge anticipation, and it could be that the disappointment was simply down to the sheer expectation stirred up by gamers. Moving on, however, Seabass was optimistic for future next-gen versions of the game.

"Look at the way the PS2 version panned out from the first to the last game. We're well on course to follow suit on PS3."

Fans are expecting a huge improvement for PES 2009, but despite Seabass showing some signs of optimism, he was cautious not to increase the expectations of the series' loyal band of followers.

"PES 2009 is in development, but after hearing the criticism, we'll be taking it back to the drawing board. It might not be next year, but it will be soon”, he said.

Poo Evolution Soccer 2oo8

I've got it on PS2 and will get it on PC too. I know Konami are concentrating on 'next gen' consoles but the PS2 version is a bit of a swizz; nothing really has changed other than the design of menus but the 'nuts and bolts' are the same as they ever were. Gameplay has always evolved nicely rather than being radically overhauled which is a good thing but the rest of it...?

Commentary is poor: Champion is ok but Lawrenson has phoned his commentary in (at 7am after a very heavy session at the BBC bar the night before) and the whole thing is very flat. I thought that PES6 was the best yet and now Konami have taken a step (or three) back.

The ball seems very heavy and SOUNDED very heavy (on the PC demo), no bad thing, just a comment. Other than that it seems to be a bit laboured; passing is weak and shots too: still this can be fixed with an editor but should WE have to do it?

Many of the appearances are fine, some are very good and some are rank. Example: Craig Gordon has fair/blonde hair and the wrong hair-cut and yet some of the Scotland squad (or Celtic and Rangers) are pretty good and need just a bit of judicious editing. Last year they got Rangers home kit wrong (dark blue). My point is: these are licensed teams and yet there seems to be very inconsistent quality control.

Overall, a missed opportunity or if I'm being harsh: money for old rope.

hit the nail on the head with the lawrenson commentary (lmao).
gameplay is far to fast.but the main thing is the lag omfg, i was playin sum lad on xbox 360 who had 1 bar from 3 connection (ok i shudent have played him) but i did. while playing there seemed to be invisable players, also sumtimes you will shoot the keeper will save it and push box out towards defenders then all of a sudden u get a corner WTF!!!, The ball dident even go out. dont say i have a shit connection coz i dont just konamio fucked up again,
6/10
think i was expecting to much this year :-(
