hi again everyone,
hope my review of fifa 2005 doesnt cause to much contraversy like i said its just an opinion of me n a few mates nothing more.
finally just had one game of pro evolution 4, though id give ya a quick review about it and hope its some use. Just before i do ill say i aint biased towards fifa or pes, i just enjoy footy n own all the previous games leading upto both of these games.
The interface and menu system has changed, as you would expect, and looks alot neater and tidier then the pes3 game, it reminds me abit of the way fifa present there menu systems and how they navigate through it. There are now alot more licenced teams as you probably now, and yes there are some that aint. It is a little bit of a downside because in previous versions, especially pes3, this was really the only main floor considered within that game, although the names of the teams can b edited. the roster is virtually upto date, from what i noticed there was just the very odd one or two transfers that arent in place and really nobody would notice unless you look really hard.
The edit mode has been completely revamped and omg its amazing! the introduction of the sponsor editor and emblam editor is like a breath of fresh air and will be for alot of pes fans, as the kits that aren't licenced can now be created with abit of ease n a good deal of accuracy. The only downside here is that. for some unknown reason?!?! they've not put striped shirts into the game, so trying to recreate the newcastle top is a right bugger.
The master league is much of the same as pes3, just with more teams that take part. Personally, this pleases myself as i thought the master league in pes3 was great.
Now, the graphics. There is a noticable improvement from the previous game. Its as though they've taken the pes3 n just give it a quick polish with a bit of surgery. The animation of the players runs alot smoother, you feel in control of the players more now than any other version and it all seems to blend together nicely. The stadiums have improved to, the crowd seem to respond better to incidents on the pitch, its just a shame they still look like they have been cut from cardboard, but hopefully that will go in future verisons on future consoles.
The gameplay is where most of the tweaks are, and thankfully alot of the wrongs have been put right. Firstly, the advantage played actually WORKS properly in this version than pes3, that was such an annoying part of pes3 and very much glad this has been rectified. Another tweak is when a player gets injured. They will end up being taken off field depending how bad the injury is to recieve treatment then, when they appear again, there leg will b heavily bandaged and the way they play will have hardly been affected, meaning there performance wont dip or they wont need to be substituted like in pes3. To be honest there are loads of tweaks in the game i could be here for along time! Theres the referee thats now visible through the game, when bad tackles are made cutscenes follow with agruements between the players anfd the referee, the ability to put a second man into a set piece is a good incusion, just tap select and he'll come up to touch the ball for your free kick. The handball seems to have been rectified too, although we've only played three games so far, but just one clear hanball and that was it, which again improves on the pes3 version. The pes shop is now locked until you complete master league on 6 star....yes 6 star!! difficulty rating. Theres also one thing we spotted in the shop called players eye view. i aint gotta clue what that means but ill guess at something where you control one player and see the game through his eyes, that would be cool if it was, if anyone can lighten me on that please do.
The game does play slightly quicker too, which for myself personally i dont like that much, although my mates think otherwise. It just feels abit more arcadey than pes3 but it depends on how it feels to others at the end of the day.
All in all, this is a big improvement on pes3 and for konami is deffinately a step in the right direction. I won't say which is best, fifa or pes, because everyone has there own views and will prefer one thing to another, but what i will say is this. From this years titles you can clearly see that both games are being infuelnced by each other, fifa is including alot of things that pes has and vice versa. In a perfect world, i think anyone would love to take fifa's licenced teams and depth and give it pes gameplay and graphics. The overall winner has to be us, the players, because the "battles" that go on between fifa and pes means that the games are just getting better and better each year. The overall loser, well, sorry club football and this is football, but they aint gotta chance against these two this year and for along time to come

Thanks for that review, i thought it was pretty good. (although I would take PES over FIFA anyday...in fact, I would take PES1 over FIFA 2005)
But, are you absolutely sure about unlocking the PES Shop?? I thought 6 star difficulty was only available in the PES Shop to buy....so that doesnt make any sense to me.

From what I have read in various forums/sites is that you obtain PES points by winning games and completing various tasks in training, just like PES3.

thanks for that review there, the only thing thats scaring me is the fact that the pes shop can't be unlocked until u complete ML on SIX!!! stars I usually play on 3 or 4 stars, so i take it that i will be hard at work trying to unlock that!

Im liking the fact that sponsor editor is in now aswell.Theres so much possibilities of what u can do with it, cant wait to use it!

another nice review Dazstar69 :)
iam pretty sure you dont have to play master league on 6 star for the PES shop to be available because you have to purchase 6star in the PES shop.
