PES Gameplay

Well, i've decided to post a question about the gameplay of PES series, to you, hardened PES fans !

What I'm really wondering, though having playes PES3 and PES4 for many times, how people can rate this game so high. Everyone in the world seems to love this japanase game. This makes me really sick.

PASSING: everything is arranged by robot AI. I mean, no matter where you're thinking or you're moving, when you press button 2 (or button 3) the ball exactly goes towards the team-mate. No skill needed, no thinking required, just press the button and voilà. The manual passing is a crap, as you can direct the ball just in 8 directions... All you need is picking Juventus and press 3 or 4 times the pass button, then accelerate and press the shoot button and you score !!

For SHOOTING the things are even worse: You are moving to, say, midfield but press button 1 and the ball runs right to the goal. You can deflect the shot just for few grades, you can never miss the goal even if you will ! Say you wanna hit the post...you cannot! AI puts the ball inside the goal.

MOVEMENTS are simply groggy. how stupid you got a modern, analog joystick and be forced to use 8 directions...

Guys, I wonder why you like this game which is almost totally played by AI.
Maybe I'm wrong, or something I miss.
Furthermore, it eats so much CPU you need a top fast computer to play it.
I started with Matchday (C64), KickOff (Amiga) in late 80s, then came Fifa. I cant's really play this crap called PES...

For Fifa, its eternal rival, things are about the same. I've played all the versions, only Fifa 2002 seems to be worth buying. Passing, shoothing, moving are smooth and controlled only by the PLAYER. You can fake shoots, give spin to the ball, miss goals, call teammates for sprinting, etc.
Fifa 2005 seems just PES with analog support...

What you think about ?

anticonformista, we like this game because it's the best there is, not because it's perfect. It's miles from perfect, obviously. I cannot understand how you cannot understand this and mock pes in that way :(. Maybe it's because of your nick. Are you Italian or something?

If you did this with Fifa, ah well, you could have gotten at least 20 pages of posts.

There are a fair few at pesfan who will respond but in the end it's clear to see it's pointless as this is a fifa fan who will argue about analogue control and other irrelevence that has already been discussed months ago.

Brazil are the team I play with in the national league. And I can imagine that free kick going in ;)

Pes

I didn't post to say PES is worst than Fifa, or because i hate Pes. I respect all opinions.

But since everyone (no exceptions) celebrates and magnify it, I just like to know 2 simple things:

1) Why you like so much this game. What makes so great Pes?
2) Why nobody objects PES is full assisted by CPU, that is you do NOT control players, you just ORDER CPU what to do...

For this reason I still can't become a fellow of Pes as I would like to, maybe you can convince me with some arguments...

1) Because it is fun and the most realistic football game available right now.
2) We do object. Check out the PES5 suggestions threads.
Have you ever tried the super-cancel move?

Also, you should try and play Football Kingdom which does give you a lot more freedom - the sequel should be coming out soon and could be very good.

PS2 vs PC

Zygalsky thank you for the reply.
For youyr reference i'm a Windows PC user.

Well, so far Football Kingdom seems to be released just for Ps2. No PC version to check out with :(

SuperCancel move: no never tried. That's a R1+R2 move double press, right ? I'll give it a try!

Analogue: as far as you know is analog capablity available in PS2 version of PES ? That is, when i push R3 and make a manual pass I get only 8 different angles (definitely totally unuseful) even if I'm using a Dual Analog Stick USB...

I'm pretty sure there's no true support for Analog yet. Maybe on the Next-Gen consoles. The PC version of the game is currently a basic port of PS2 version. Needless to say I of course love the game. Don't all games come with a certain degree of CPU assists? With passing... try holding on to the button for longer to play the ball further. The direction of your pass is dependent upon the direction of the press, so to say it just goes to the nearest player is false. From what you have said about passing 3 times then being able to shoot, clearly indicates a lower level of playing. Of course this can be done on star level 1 and 2. Try scoring like that on 6 star (from your attitude I assume your not good enough to play on this level yet).

Look sunshine.

The gameplay in PES is the best around. You wonder why every pass goes where you want, well firstly that isnt the case all the time, and secondly you're not playing with Sunday League teams either.
I've hit the post dozens of times, the AI is spot on. Either you are too shit at the game, play on a very low difficulty, dont play it enough or you dont know what you're on about. Either way whatever you said in your first post was wrong.
