Maybe we can see a revolution in WE10 which will be released on PES3.
Other gameplay everyone knows that PES/WE is behind FIFA. So does Konami. Perhaps Konami may just be saving up their resouces for their next major release. Well, they better be cos PS3 will not come cheap at least for a couple of years.
Yeah, I bought PS2 for 2 reasons WE6FE and MGS2. I'd buy PS3 for WE11/PES7 and MGS4. But i'm not commiting any dough till I see some revolutionary changes, as PS3 gonna cost a bomb.
To the topic:
FIFA and WE/PES appeal to two different sets of ppl. Personally, I've yet to find a true blue football fan playing FIFA. Those that do, probably haven't heard of WE/PES yet. Once they've experieced it, theres usually no going back.
That being said, I know many people who play FIFA. I played FIFA, up to RTWC98, till I got WE3 (in full Jap glory). Back then there were fewer altenatives.
Played so many games, Kick OFF, SWOS, the Original ISS on SNES, TECMO WCUP, Sega Striker. Nothing has given me the satisfaction that WE/PES has. (not to say I'm fully satified with PES, far from it)
I know FIFA appeals to the casual gamers more. It's better and more rewarding for pick-up and play games. Not so steep a learning curve. To this day, I just can't pop over with a WE/PES to a mates house, and say lets play. He'll get creamed.
Of course, FIFA also can't be beat when it comes to presentation, licences, sound, graphics and marketing clout.Hence it's got a slightly more wider appeal and sales figures.
Konami on the other hand, have got the better gameplay, better depth, and have a dedicated and growing fan base. And so far, the WE/PES has been the closest to 'real' football yet.
But then they are really 'sleeping' when it comes to addressing the strengths of FIFA above. If these two companies were to merge, wouldn't we then have the ideal situation. I'm pissed that Konami is slow in realising the needs/feedback of its fan base, whereas EA are quicker to do so.
The fact that its a Japanese company, and the basic WE is predominatly catered to that market may play a part. KOnami SHOULD take a year off, instead of churning out a version every 5 mths or so.
For example, WE9, some new additions there. Not all good, not bad. A little with be tweaked (hopefully) for PE5. Come next year, WE9I will be out, more tweaking/balancing and the game will overall end up the best in that series. In the meantime true fans would have bought 3 versions.
Listen to you fanbase, revamp whats necesarry, overhaul where needed. And come out with one international release per year. (its been said before, I know) I mean, language options can be coded into the game. Whats so freaking difficult. Theres loads of space on the DVD. FIFA does a good job(within its scope) with 1 release per year, why does Konami need 3. Buy buying each iteration (i'm guilty of this too), we are just encouraging Konami's complacency.
Yeah and if FIFA learns from KONAMI and gets its gameplay right, Then I'd buy FIFA.
Or if KONAMI ever get all their licences ready, and really put the effort into updating rosters, kits, names and stats correctly thens its probably bye-bye FIFA.
Either way, competition is good, and it'll keep both on their toes.
Cheers.
