I wanted to make a suggestion to the people whom are playing the PES11 demo; a suggestion for you to try (if you want) the next time you play the PES11 demo.
The purpose of this thread is for you to read the suggestion which will be explained, and to try the suggestion on PES11, and to provide feedback as to how it works in PES11.
If you read the suggestion and follow the steps, it is guaranteed to improve your experience with the game; if it still works the same in PES11.

L2 HORIZONTAL RUN
Before I learned how to make good use of the L2 STRATEGIES, with PES10 a lot of chances were wasted because my midfielders would only move VERTICALLY, even when the circumstances were perfect for a HORIZONTAL run.
When I wanted to try more realistic things it was impossible, due to the same reason: no HORIZONTAL movements without the ball.
When you look at midfield maestros like Xavi Hernandez, there is a lot of horizontal and diagonal movements without the ball... because horizontal movements create passing angles without the necessity of the vertical runs and the stamina required for vertical play.
This is why slow footballers like Xavi Hernandez and Andrea Pirlo, move horizontally and diagonally, because they are not the type of footballers who run vertically, they create passing angles efficiently... without getting tired in the process.
In PES10, after quite a time experimenting with formations and strategies, I found a trick that gave me the alternative of dictating my own script: I know what will happen next, because I'm pulling the strings.
When you feel like you are pulling the strings, it feels very different, a lot more enjoyable in my opinion; because it's not like you know exactly what will happen next... but you do know where it will happen, and also, what you intend to do.
Which is a lot more enjoyable and rewarding than simply following the script that the COM dictates; basically, with the L2 HORIZONTAL RUN... you can manually control Lio Messi when Lio Messi has the ball at his feet, whilst at the same time, also have semi-manual control over the off-the-ball movement of Xavi Hernandez.
HOW TO DO IT
After experimenting with the L2 Strategies, I have learned how to dictate HORIZONTAL RUNS from ONE individual, and this has greatly improved my experience with PES10.
If you have not tried certain tricks with the L2 strategies, I would like to make a suggestion, for you to try when you play the PES11 demo.
The L2 trick that I'm about to explain to you, it greatly improved my experience with PES10, I'd like to know if it still works in PES11.
Here are the steps to be followed:
1st -- take a good passer of the ball, with good teamwork stat, someone in the mold of Xavi Hernandez or Andrea Pirlo, and position him as a 3rd Center Back.
2nd -- on the regular settings, place the 3rd CB on the right flank, as wide as it can possibly go, literally stepping on the right flank line, right on the border-line between defense and midfield.
3rd -- the 3rd (additional) CB should be positioned in front of the WB in terms of length, more or less like a DMF in terms of length, but without drifting out of the defensive area. And in terms of width, the 3rd CB should be wider than the WB, as wide as possible, literally stepping on the flank line.
4th -- then you go to the L2 STRATEGIES, and you assign the CB OVERLAP strategy to the (o) button: the CB to go forwards will be the 3rd CB, someone in the mold of Xavi Hernandez or Andrea Pirlo, a deep lying playmaker.
5th -- then you go to the L2 STRATEGIES, and with the CUSTOM SETTINGS A and CUSTOM SETTINGS B.
6th -- assign the CUSTOM SETTINGS A strategy to the (x) button: leave everything identical in terms of formation, and just change the position of the 3rd CB, place him as wide as he can go on the left flank, literally stepping on the left flank line...
6th -- Only change the position in terms of HORIZONTAL movement, keep the movement/position in terms of length identical to the standard/regular formation.
6th -- the only difference between the regular formation and the Custom Settings A, is in terms of width: instead of the right flank line, the additional CB will move to the left flank line, same position in terms of length.
7th -- you have to make the best use of the width of the pitch... this means that you literally have to position the 3rd CB as wide as it can possibly go.
7th -- this way, the movement from Point A (right flank line) to Point B (left flank line) will cover all the pitch and thus will provide you with more passing angles.
8th -- the CUSTOM SETTINGS A strategy is triggered on-the-fly by holding the L2 button + tapping the (x) button, and then releasing the L2 button.
8th -- the CB OVERLAP strategy is triggered on-the-fly by holding the L2 button and then tapping the (o) button, and then releasing the L2 button.
9th -- if you use the CB OVERLAP strategy, this means that the CB assigned to the mentioned strategy, the 3rd CB in this case, will run through the flanks, all the way into the attack... The 3rd CB will stay on the flank, the CB OVERLAP strategy only affects VERTICAL movement, not HORIZONTAL movement.
9th -- the CB OVERLAP strategy does not works instantly on PES10, there is a split-second of delay, and after that delay, the CB assigned to run forwards will start running forwards through the right flank.
9th -- I reiterate that it is linear movement, vertical movement, the CB OVERLAP strategy cannot dictate horizontal movement without the CUSTOM SETTINGS A strategy.
10th -- due to the small lag or delay of the CB OVERLAP strategy, this means that you should pass the ball between your CBs and WBs, to cover up the time lapse or delay which is required for the 3rd CB to move into an attacking position on the right flank line or left flank line of the pitch.
10th -- the 3rd CB should have an attacking mentality, so that the CB OVERLAP strategy functions faster, with less lag/delay.
11th -- you should start the game with the CB OVERLAP strategy activated, so that the 3rd CB with attacking mentality stays up in the opponent's half of the pitch as much as possible; you should only deactivate the CB OVERLAP strategy, when you want the 3rd CB to come back down to his own half of the pitch.
12th -- once the 3rd CB is in an attacking position, if you activate the CUSTOM SETTINGS A strategy: this will trigger INSTANTANEOUS HORIZONTAL OFF-THE-BALL MOVEMENT FROM THE 3RD CENTER BACK, instantaneous horizontal movement from the right flank line to the left flank line, from right to left, with no lag or delay...
12th -- once you are close to the left flank line, if you deactivate the CUSTOM SETTINGS A strategy, this will produce instantaneous horizontal off-the-ball movement from the 3rd CB, from left to right.
12th -- the horizontal movement works fairly simple, above all, the CB OVERLAP strategy must be activated at all times, from beginning to end; this means that the 3rd CB will spend most of his time positioned somewhere in the opponent's half of the pitch, either on the right flank line or the left flank line.
12th -- dictating horizontal movements from the 3rd CB is fairly easy, just a matter of activating and deactivating the CUSTOM SETTINGS A strategy; activating the mentioned strategy will produce horizontal movement from right to left, and deactivating the strategy will produce horizontal movement from left to right.
12th -- it's easy to use because it's always: hold L2 + tap the (x) button, and then release the L2 button... The same easy and responsive procedure produces movements from right to left or left to right, it's just a matter of activating and deactivating.
12th -- the CB OVERLAP strategy should always be activated for this to work; otherwise, the 3rd CB will stay back in his own half of the pitch.
SLIDERS, otherwise known as TEAM STYLE
In order for it to work as best as possible, you have to make sure that some of the SLIDERS read like this,
DEFENSIVE LINE -- 31 -- in order to make the best use of the L2 HORIZONTAL RUN, it works best with a defensive line that does not rushes forwards and exposes you at the back; thus providing the 3rd CB with more TIME to run forwards along the flank-lines.
POSITION SWITCH -- 63 -- the L2 HORIZONTAL RUN works better when players do not automatically switch positions, automatic switching gives more control to the COM and less control to you. A rigid formation is much more effective and reliable if you want to make good use of the L2 HORIZONTAL RUN.
OFFENSE STYLE -- 90 -- the forwards will run down the middle with more intensity and aggressiveness, the L2 HORIZONTAL RUN is more effective when you have at least one forward running forwards through the middle; it works better when the FW whom is running through the middle is not positioned inside the penalty box.
FORMATION
Above all, you have to make the best use of the width of the pitch... this means that you literally should position the 3rd CB as wide as it can possibly go; because this will provide you with more passing angles.
I think it works best with 4 defenders, two CBs and two WBs, make sure you position your CBs inside their own penalty box.
And the 3rd (additional) CB which will be someone like Xavi Hernandez or Andrea Pirlo or Cesc Fabregas; make sure he is a good passer with good positioning, that should be the 3rd CB.
And also, a fast AMF or SS placed on the right flank-line or left flank-line. This is how I do it:
1st -- activate the CB OVERLAP strategy from beginning to end.
2nd -- pass the ball between your CBs and WBs, until the 3rd CB is positioned in an advanced position; this happens quite quickly, it is not a slow process or procedure, but it is also not instantly responsive.
3rd -- when the 3rd CB is positioned in an advanced position somewhere along the right flank-line, with the WB whom is positioned on the right side, pass the ball to the 3rd CB whom will be positioned on the right flank line.
4th -- after passing the ball to the 3rd CB, you then pass the ball to the SS or AMF whom is also positioned on the right flank line (near you), and before actually passing the ball... you activate the CUSTOM SETTINGS A strategy...
5th -- the CUSTOM SETTINGS A strategy will be activated by simply: holding the L2 button + tapping the (x) button, and then releasing the L2 button.
6th -- after activating the CUSTOM SETTINGS A strategy, you then pass the ball to the SS or AMF whom is also positioned on the right flank-line... and by the time the AMF has the ball at his feet, the 3rd CB will already be moving from right to left.
7th -- the SS or AMF will have at least two defenders/midfielders on him at this point, so if you pass the ball to the 3rd CB whom is moving from right to left, the 3rd CB will be free from mark... and in the perfect position to slip a dangerous through ball down the middle of the pitch.
The first few times you try it, you might think, "this is difficult" -- but -- as most things with PES, there is a certain "feel"to it, and it will grow on you the more you use it, and it will become easy; it is easy, just takes a little practice, a little getting used to.
But it's definitely worth the time, because it will add a whole new dimension into your game.
That easy procedure will create many different scenarios, it all depends on how you TIME it, TIMING it differently will create different type of scenarios.
DIFFERENT SCENARIOS
1st -- DIAGONAL-HORIZONTAL movements from right to left, or left to right: it all depends on how you time the CUSTOM SETTINGS A strategy.
1st -- if you activate the CUSTOM SETTINGS A strategy when the 3rd CB is still in the process of joining the attack; this will produce a more diagonal movement from right to left.
2nd -- if you deactivate the CB OVERLAP strategy: as a result, the 3rd CB whom was positioned in the opponent's half of the pitch... will run back into his own half of the pitch; a good strategy for time-wasting...
2nd -- this is a good strategy for holding possession of the ball and starting an attack from the back; and it is also good for forcing your opponent into crowding your half of the pitch, and thus making themselves vulnerable to long ball tactics or counter attacking tactics, etc, etc.
3rd -- and furthermore, you have CUSTOM SETTINGS B...
BOTTOM LINE
With the L2 STRATEGIES you can effectively dictate YOUR own script... because you can consciously create the passing angles that YOU want... and you can also decide when you want to use it.
Basically, you can manually control Lio Messi when Lio Messi has the ball at his feet, whilst at the same time, also have semi-manual dictatorship over the off-the-ball movement of Xavi Hernandez.
And when you learn how to use it, it is very effective, and becomes very easy to use...
The L2 HORIZONTAL RUN will create great passing angles without the necessity of passing the ball; you will feel more in control over everything. It is certainly worth the time, because if you try it and it does works, it will add a whole new dimension to your play.
If you try this in PES11, let me know how it works for you, if it works... and if it works; is it responsive? is there a split-second lag?
The purpose of this thread is for you to read the suggestion which will be explained, and to try the suggestion on PES11, and to provide feedback as to how it works in PES11.
If you read the suggestion and follow the steps, it is guaranteed to improve your experience with the game; if it still works the same in PES11.
